The eighteenth edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) will take place from October 16 - 20, 2013. ADE, the most important global conference for dance and electronic music and the biggest international club festival in the world, is expected to grow significantly again this year, in part through a planned expansion of ADE Playground, the daytime program of unique film screenings, exhibitions and retail promotions. The organizers expect over 200,000 festival visitors and 4,000 professional conference attendees.

With performances by 1,700 national and international artists, an array of acclaimed speakers from around the world, 350 events and 75 participating venues across Amsterdam, the 2012 edition of ADE broke all previous records, reflecting both the global success of dance music, and the importance of the Dutch electronic music industry.

The ADE festival program 2012, which included an extra day, 23 new venues, and a line-up featuring virtually all of the world's top DJs and performers, attracted the largest number of clubbers in the history of the event. The ADE conference program was also extended with a new event focussing on visuals and stage design: ADE Beamlab.

The most notable growth was however in ADE Playground. In 2012 Playground featured twenty locations spread throughout the city offering studio sessions, equipment demonstrations, film screenings, exhibitions and in-store performances by well-known DJs and artists. Most of these events were ADE exclusives and all were free to holders of the newly introduced ADE Card.

"We intend to further expand ADE Playground this year in order to build a truly great creative platform that reflects the richness and diversity of both electronic music and global dance music culture." ADE Director Richard Zijlma said.

The 17th edition of Amsterdam Dance Event(ADE) was the biggest one so far. For five full days Amsterdam turned black and yellow. Music lovers enjoyed music from 1.700 national and international artists like Armin van Buuren, Richie Hawtin, Afrojack, Carl Cox, David Guetta, Danny Tenaglia, Headhunterz and many many more played at a record breaking 75 venues.

Top speakers from all around the world shared their knowledge with the audience at the ever expanding conference program. Video art, interactive projection and light design were the main topics at Beamlab, ADE’s brand new conference for stage design and VJs. Students were inspired by top shots like Duncan Stutterheim, Junkie XL and Joost van Bellen at ADE University. Upcoming DJs and producers took the stage at ADE Next and were inspired by our dance legends and dinosaurs.

Last but not least, ADE successfully launched its third pillar: ADE Playground. A unique and broad day program consisting of film screenings, exhibitions, showcases, product presentations and retail promotions at over 20 venues around town.

On Friday 19th of October as part of the most important and influential platform for EDM, ALDA events presented on the Passengers Terminal Amsterdam the spectacular Armada Night event that is of course the official event of the most important dance record label in global scale Armada Music that is the home of many great artists from around the world housing some of the finest record labels. That night will be remembered for ever because of the fantastic Armin van Buuren performance and the great dj sets by Sied van Riel, W&W,Tom Fall, Max Graham, Aly & Fila, Ashley Wallbridge, John O'Callaghan and the opening set of the hot duo from Malta Tenishia that we had the chance to have an interview with them at the backstage of Armada Night and you are about to watch right now.
This was the 2nd chance to meet Tenishia after the great interview we did at Tomorrowland festival in Belgium. If you get the time to watch it you can find answers on the following questions. We asked them about their opinion for ADE and in what other Armada Nights events they have performed so far and if possible to pick up their favourite Armada Night event. They tell us everything about their current single and the forthcoming  one that is going to be "Memory of A Dream". They give us a hint about the latest remixes for others artists that they produce and they talk about their hard work at the moment to promote the album and prepare music videos for the singles. We ask them about where they get the inspiration for so beautiful melodies and we wonder if Love is maybe the main emotion that inspires them so much. We ask about the popularity of Trance Music in Malta and if they produce with your own sounds or pre-existing samples from libraries.
They share with us their opinion about Armin van Buuren's achievement to reach number 1 for 5th time at the dj mag Top 100 and they reveal how they feel that manage to climb at number 50 this year at the dj mag Top 100 list. Also we ask if they believe that this list will help them to get more dj bookings in the future. Lastly we discuss about how much time they spent of facebook/twitter communicating and interacting with their growing global fanbase. Once again Tenishia will win your admiration so better watch it.

Five days of this year will be remembered for ever by those who were present at Amsterdam Dance Event 2012. The reason being that this great platform for Electronic Dance Music started its journey through the years as an industry based event. However, in 2012 ADE grew into a significant and highly influential cultural event, which coloured the days and nights of the cold but very welcoming city of Amsterdam with the virtues of EDM. Anyone could taste it either as part of a great discussions panel, University lecture and showcase of the latest DJ equipment with contests for new talent. A delicious menu that was cooked by fellow DJ’s, screening of documentaries with EDM related themes, and many more that too numerous to write about. At night ADE offered the coolest venues in and around Amsterdam city, club events representing a wide variety of music styles to satisfy the needs of the visitors and locals who want to get a sample of EDM madness.

On Friday 19th at the ‘Passenger Terminal’ the label voted the ‘Best Global Label’ for four consecutive years, organised a magnificent night that was packed, sold out, and certainly unforgettable. Armada Music offered the high quality event ‘Armada Night’ with the finest music policy; Trance from all the various sub styles, the finest sound system, the finest lighting effects, including mouth-watering lasers and great visual effects that transformed the stage into a sci-fi environment, and pyrotechnics to light up the night. Behind the decks were only the best DJ’s who represent the present but most importantly the future of the scene too. Armin van Buuren, Tenishia, W&W, Sied van Riel, Max Graham, Aly & Fila, John O'Callaghan, Ashley Wallbridge & Tom Fall were the lucky ones who had the chance to play in front of a such a huge and up-for-it crowd.

The 6th and final interview at Armada Night at ADE was with the finest Irish underground uplifting banging trance DJ, producer, label owner and radio show host, John O'Callaghan. It was the second time that I have had the chance to interview him after we met at Tomorrowland festival in Belgium. First of all, we asked his opinion about ADE I general, and also if he had attended other events other than Armada Night. We wanted to know why he is still faithful to uplifting euphoric harder trance sounds after so many years. He tell us that he is already in the process of composing new tracks for his forthcoming solo artist album, and he reveals some tasty details about his 2 CD compilation ‘Subculture’ which will be out soon, and will include new tracks and many exclusives from all the beloved producers from his label Subculture. We question him about his label, and ask if he is satisfied with its success, and the level of recognition and respect that it has reached.

We ask about the artists that his label is currently working with. He replies to our question about if he feels that he is an inspirational figure for younger artists, particularly from Northern Ireland who may want to follow his successful path. He tells us who are the artists that inspired him to get involved with EDM. He reveals which Armada Night is his favourite from the many he has played at until now, and we ask him to tell us which elements constitute a successful club night. Is it good organisation, or the big and ready to party crowd. Last question is about his production techniques; if he uses sample libraries or if he constructs his own unique original sounds. John O'Callaghan is a legend for many, and if you watch this interview you will understand the reason. Don’t Miss it!

The Amsterdam Dance Event is considered to be the most important and highly regarded event for the Dance Music Industry on a global scale. ADE manages in every sense to encapsulate its mission to become the platform that will connect the various key players in the EDM industry, in order to do business and benefit from each others knowledge. Sharing the knowledge from those who are successful, to the young and aspiring members of the expanding EDM scene is definitely what the organisers try so hard to achieve.

From Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st of October the hearts and minds of the most creative, ambitious and imaginative people were beating to ADE's rhythm. At the end of those 5 days I can tell you that time was the biggest problem, as you were entering the main locations in daylight, and you were leaving with moonlight. There were so many opportunities to do something interesting and pass your day with like minded individuals who breathe music exactly like you. ADE was the epicentre of the music industry where the past and present trends were evaluated, and the future possibilities were examined carefully.

ADE was the birth place of many music collaborations at various levels. >From artists who meet each other and set up their collaborations, record companies and distributors from all over the world who strike deals to license their music products to faraway territories, advertisers and big famous brands who search for artists or events to sponsor and promote their product by associating it with EDM culture. Academics, who investigate the latest developments in EDM from various disciplines like Musicology or Sociology, and last but not least, the local media from Holland which increased the coverage of ADE, and respected international media outlets that covered the event with extensive positive reports.

Either behind their computers producing music, behind the decks performing in front of huge crowds, or in their offices working endless hours in an independent or major record company, behind their cameras, microphones and PCs writing features or reviews to disseminate the information as accurately as possible to thousand others, ADE brings them all together as one. At night the festival schedule included the best DJ's performing at the most important venues in Amsterdam, for those who could stay awake until morning and party, away from daytime pressures and meetings. According to the organisers, Buma Cultuur, the official attendance figures for this year proves its growth and shows excellent prospects for the future.

The excellent day programme this year included ‘ADE Pro’ where its main conference part took place at Felix Meritis, European Centre for the Arts Culture and Science, which facilitates the dialogue between different cultures, & The Dylan Hotel which is considered to be the showcase to the richness of Amsterdam culture. In both locations, a wide variety of topics were discussed, either within panels of professionals, or with one to one type of questions/answers sessions, which respected and highly successful figures who were interviewed by very well informed journalists. In both buildings actual business was done by signing tracks or starting collaborations, joint ventures, or just meeting those who you know by email, and you decide it’s time to meet them in person.

Music is art, and should be regarded and treated as such. Art means passion and dedication, and ADE - despite its strong business emphasis – is still all about connecting those who have common interests, and in most part their Art becomes their professional occupation. The rest of the ‘ADE Pro’ conference program was split between Da Ballie, named Music, and Bits that were concerned with the world of music online. ADE University was another excellent addition, and its aim was to inspire and educate students and young music industry professionals. At the famous Leidseplein, the futuristic Smirnoff Cube was the space where famous artists, DJ’s and music industry professionals met the future breeds in the scene, or those who just wanted to have an insider look at the glamorous EDM world.

What is more, on Friday at the famous venue ‘Melkweg’, the Hard Dance Event took place connecting professionals in the harder styles of dance. The brand new addition was ‘ADE Playground’ which made a more visible impact at the conference. There were various events like screenings of EDM related films, DJ contests, hands-on experience of brand new DJ equipment from the big brands, delivering the most cutting edge technology in the field. ADE 2012 was a great success, and definitely an event that you should add to your next year calendar. Check out the official after movie right here:

I requested an interview with Richard Zijlma, the General Manager of ADE, and we are pleased that despite being very busy, he was able to offer us some fantastic answers which you can watch right here in his interview. I started by taking him back in time to tell us about the roots of ADE, and how this platform for EDM was established, and under which circumstances. He tells us how important for the EDM scene it is to find the right contacts, and ADE facilitates that process  a lot. I asked him to recall his feelings at the end of the very first ADE 17 years ago. ADE, according to Mr Ziljma, reflects the shift from physical to the digital world, and support from the various key players to adapt within the new digital era. Another interesting topic was the growth and huge explosion of Dutch EDM industry all over the globe, in the ways in which ADE represents that development.

For old and new members of the industry, protecting the rights of their intellectual property is another key issue, and ADE had plenty of opportunities for them to find out the most beneficial way to do it. I questioned him about the reasons for the establishment of the ADE Playground and University, and the kind of activities that are included. Within a harsh period of economic crisis and governments spending cuts on social welfare, ADE shines as the sign of resistance by mainly young self employed entrepreneurs, who despite the gloomy years, are attempting to sustain and even expand their businesses. I was curious to know if the Dutch government appreciates the contribution by the EDM industry and ADE, to the growth of the Dutch economy, and Mr Ziljma gives his views. Next question was about the Internet and how the newly designed web site acts as the platform to share knowledge and connect like-minded individuals.

A question that should be in the mind of every person that takes part in ADE is who decided the topics that were discussed at the various panels, and Mr Ziljma reveals the process for us. The final question was about the night programme, and who decides which events will be granted status of official ADE events. At the end of this interview I'm sure that you will feel as I felt, more informed and even more enthusiastic about EDM and your involvement in it.  If you are an ADE newbie or ADE regular or you are thinking about visiting ADE next year, this interview is a must see...

We were there at Amsterdam Dance Event for the first time. Finally our wish became true as we manage to attend the most important gathering for the EDM industry in Europe. This was the 17th edition of ADE and it was bigger and better than any other year. The most important artists in EDM at the moment hosted their own club nights in various venues in Amsterdam and the most important figures in EDM culture took part on the various panels that were organised in the three main buildings that ADE took place. The Felix Meritis, Dylan Hotel, Da Balie. During this very important platform for Electronic Dance Music several events and activities were running so someone could have something to attend. From ADE University that had as a goal to introduce young students to the magical world of EDM to latest dj gear showcase and  screenings of great films with subject matter related to EDM culture. Amsterdam Dance Event is the place to be for anyone who wishes to be in touch, leave and breath the fresh air of EDM.
On Thursday 18th of October at the brand new venue Undercurrent two worlds collided in a very successful way. The Full on Ferry event came together with the brand new concept of Rich Solarstone "Pure Trance" that is currently touring around the world. On the Pure Trance stage except Solarstone, Orkidea, Daniel Kandi, John OO Flemming and exceptional 1hour and half performance of the EDM producer Guiseppe Ottaviani. The Italian mastermind once again delivered what his reputation suggests with fantastic Live performance including his latest club anthems plus some experimentation with other artists tracks. He took his Live Performance in the next level for sure. After finishing his performance at the very hot stage we meet with him at the backstage for a very interesting and worth watching interview were he reveals a lot and he give us exclusive information too.

First of all we ask him about his Live Performance at Pure Trance and he was satisfied with it. We then ask him if he feels that he is still Pure Trance or if he likes to incorporate other styles elements in his productions. He talk about the big success of his remix on the latest Paul van Dyk feat Plumb single I Dont Deserve You. We ask him about his collaboration with Solarstone for the track Falcons included on Solarstone's latest album Pure out on Black Hole recordings. He reveals great news about his forthcoming album and he tell us that he aspires to deliver a very different result  from his first one GO. It will include great collaborations with talented vocalists from around the globe. We ask him to give us more details about his current single Lost for Words featuring the magnificent Amba Shepherd. He tell us about the popularity of Trance Music in his homecountry Italy.  Finally we ask his opinion and perception of Amsterdam Dance Event and his importance for the EDM industry. Giuseppe is one of the best artists to have an interview with and he proves once again how down to earth and simple person remains despite his global success and recognition. You will Love HIM.

We Were There for first time at Amsterdam Dance Event. For 5 days from 17th till 21st of October the vibrant multicultural city of Amsterdam becomes the focus point of the Electronic Dance Music Industry. Now in its 17th year ADE is the most important platform about and around EDM as it combines very informative conferences, plenty of opportunities for networking and during the night spread across the city of Amsterdam wide variety of events that represent the various styles and substyles of EDM at the moment with appearances from the most famous djs and producers worldwide including Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten and many more.
On Thursday 18th of October the superstar dj and pioneer EDM producer Ferry Corsten presented for very first time at ADE is Full on Ferry show at the brand new event location Undercurrent in co-operation with the very successful event organisation company UDC. The show included mouthwatering solo performance by Ferry Corsten who played all his biggest hits and many of the forthcoming tracks including his collaboration with Markus Schulz and great guest performances from the Dutch dynamite Sied van Riel who blow our minds off, the legend producer Nick Bracegirdle with his influential project Chicane Live with hair raising performances of classics such as Saltwater, Showtek who unleash their manic harder side of house, Bassjackers with his punchy dirty dutch/epic house sound and Aly and Fila as the final set for an unforgettable uplifting full on climax.
The incredible event that was excellently conceived and organised in every little small detail included a 2nd room hosted by Solarstone with his Pure Trance concept that included performances by Solarstone, Giuseppe Ottaviani Live, Orkidea, Daniel Kandi & John OO Fleming. The music policy was Pure Uplifting trance the way we Loved and we continue to Love this genre.
Ferry Corsten the following day took part on the great pannel "Every beat counts-How to invest in yourself"  organised by SENA responsible to protect the neighbouring rights of EDM artists  at Felix Meritis. The panel included also the Dutch female dj Marcella, Steve Rodway of the Motiv8 project and the real legend of soulful house the admirable singer Ce Ce Rogers. Ferry talked about and shared  his experience as an artist and successful label owner of Flashover recordings. He was really confident to present the various steps he took to establish himself and his company  and he urged the young artists to become more active in their self promotion as the world wide web offers countless opportunities to  promote their art and themselves as djs, artists and label owners.
At the end of this very informative panel I requested Ferry to do an interview as always Ferry was very polite to accept it despite the fact that he had to finish his Once Upon A Night vol.3 compilation that will be out at the end of November. Within this superb interview Ferry Corsten talks about the big importance of ADE in the music industry and what is really going on in it. He give us his opinion about the explosion of the Electronic Dutch Music Industry and the dominance of Dutch EDM artists in a global scale. He make his positive appraisal of the Full on Ferry event. He comments for his guest artists, the Undercurrent venue and the event company UDC that he work together for various projects including Full on Ferry in Holland. He make a quick round up of the past events and he reveals the future Full on Ferry events all over the globe. He also answers on  the very important questions when a promoter books a Full on Ferry what is included in it. On the production front he tell us about his 2nd collaboration with Markus Schulz for the remake of the classic Jam & Spoon anthem Stella and we finish off with his forthcoming compilation Once Upon a Night vol3 that will be out soon on his joint venture Premier recordings along with Black Hole recordings.  The Amsterdam Dance Event is considered to be the most important and influential platform for Electronic Dance Music on global scale. For 5 days, the city of Amsterdam was the main stage for the most healthy, prosperous and creative industry in the world. EDM from the peripherals of the music industry during the past year became the focus point, as more mainstream pop or even rock artists craved for at least one dance remix of their latest track, in order to get the support of the superstar DJ’s. The future looks bright for EDM, and the Amsterdam Dance Event reflects, represents and influences the developments within the most vibrant and exciting industry to get involved in.

On Friday 19th of October, at the very well organised press room at Amsterdam Dance Event, I met the legend of the underground techno music movement, Dave Clarke for a great interview . Dave Clarke is a DJ, producer and radio host of the show ‘White Noise’. His contribution to the development of techno music is considered by many to have been extremely vital to its success, and he can be proud to have been a catalyst in the progress of the EDM industry too. So I was very excited to have the chance to talk with him, and get answers to some of the many questions that I would love to ask. He was very busy, not only because he was actively involved in various discussion panels at the conference, but also as he had to arrange the final details of his event at Melkweg venue in Amsterdam. Dave Clarke hosted his ‘Dave Clarke Presents’ showcase for the eighth consecutive year at ADE, with all previous seven editions having sold out also. Techno fans from around the globe headed to the Melkweg, collectively created an unbelievable atmosphere, and subconsciously were part of a “you had to be there” experience. Next to showcase ringmaster Dave Clarke, the Melkweg underwent performances by Chicago’s finest Green Velvet, house gangster DJ Sneak, the Detroit collective Octave One, Berlin based Marcel Fengler, Dutch leading tech lady Estroe, Clone Records artist Blawan and Dutch techno talent Roger Gerressen. To top it off, Clarke's production partner and fellow ‘Unsubscribe’ member, the Dutch Mr. Jones, received the honour of rocking the crowd with an extra half hour of straight-up techno until closing time.

Within the interview that you can watch right here, Dave Clarke tells us his opinion about ADE, and why he loves to actively take part in it. We ask him to tell us his feelings as an interviewer in his Tomorrowland after movie, and of course, he give us his opinion about Tomorrowland, and he even reveals that he will be at the festival next summer too. As he is one of the leaders in the techno scene, next question was about the future forms and shapes of techno music. On Saturday 20th of October he was the moderator at the ‘Demolition part XVI’, where amongst others such as Mauro Picotto and Laidback Luke, he was the judge of demos submitted during the conference. He tells us what this special panel is all about, and how this helps to give exposure to new talent in the scene. One of his most important activities is  his radio show ‘White Noise’, which is very influential and highly respected within the techno world. He explains why he considers this radio show to be like a platform/bulletin board for new talent. We ask him about his sold-out event at Melkweg, and we finish with his from-the-heart answer about the reasons he moved from Brighton to reside in Amsterdam. Dave Clarke talks, so the rest should be quite and listen. Enjoy this great interview.

Enjoy also the official aftermovie video from his Melkweg event during ADE 2012.
