John Dopping brings us the next installment of the Definitions alias - this time a collaboration with Slipstream entitled Subterfuge - a blend of both artists writing and production skills and on the ‘b-side’ The Lie, which gives us a first glimpse of the solo Definitions sound.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Definitions presents two excellent trance productions that stand out of the generic uplifting sound that sounds like copying and pasting previous projects templates without any imagination. In contrast these two very talented artists deliver tracks that you will play this year in your set and you will keep on playing them for years.  Subterfuge is collaboration with Slipstream  with cool driving basslines, thumping metallic serious kick, strong percussion drive the track nicely forward while on top cool melodic layers, haunting voices, variety of synthy riffs create that hypnotic feel that trance is all about. The breakdown is all about the mysterious atmosphere with dynamic dark synthy hook and trancy voices on top while underneath breaks like section keeps things interesting until the build up takes us all the way in the floating climax that has variety of synths with superb twist and edge. On The Lie Definitions moves on the similar serious uplifting direction with soaring synths, great tribalish percussion and atmospheric breakdown that is dominated from the full on uplifting synthy hooks to raise those hands in the air and then nicely we follow the track in its cinematic direction with variety of synthy layers, acid overtones and Ibiza trance feel resembling the classic 3 Drives on a Vinyl sound to it. #PureGold Love IT  [/content]

Two legends combine to create a true trance track in What Defines Us.

Sonic Element whose productions are revered among many in the scene, not least by those who have followed Borderline since its inception.

Slipstream, an alias of George Winkworth has had some of the most defining trance tracks of all time; Fiji and Voyager II, which are both on each end of the ‘commercial’ spectrum. Fiji breaking through into the mainstream and Voyager II being a stand out track from Gatecrasher’s DiscoTech compilation and becoming so hard to find that vinyl copies were being exchanged for as much as £45!

As you would expect, What Defines Us is a perfect blend of both producer's sounds and writing styles.

[item value="10"]Slipstream & Sonic Element - What Defines Us[/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Slipstream & Sonic Element combine their forces to provide us the superb slice of real purified and absolutely magical trance beauty What Defines Us on Activa's resurrected record label Bordeline. The track has the right pace, drive and the excellent synthy layers to keep the dancefloor pumping along with acid overtones and cool effects. The breakdown is long and teasing with impressive humble but still very elevating classic Ibiza style trance melody that slowly uplift and when the beat strikes back everything sound so complete and perfect to have the flight of your life. Borderline delivers so far impressive tracks that respect the listener and follow the classic trance vibe that the melody drives the track without being overloaded with layers to complicate your listening experience. #PureGold Love iT[/content]
