[item value="10"]Sander Kleinenberg - My Lexicon (Remixed by Helsloot, THEMBA & Kintar)[/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Sander Kleinenberg’s iconic track My Lexicon, these two remixes showcase masterful production techniques that breathe new life into the classic while honoring its melodic core. Helsloot’s rendition sits at 124 BPM and embraces the melodic techno and progressive house spectrum, immediately drawing listeners into a hypnotic groove. The remix utilizes layered arpeggiated synth lines and precision-filtered pads, maintaining the instantly recognizable original melody while integrating modern sidechain compression and tight low-end mixing for a club-ready punch. The stereo field is meticulously crafted with panned percussive accents and subtle spatial effects, creating an immersive sonic experience that flows seamlessly through its build-ups and drops. In contrast, THEMBA and Kintar’s 123 BPM Afro house interpretation focuses on rhythmic complexity and organic textures. Their remix incorporates tribal percussion loops, syncopated hi-hats, and warm, live-sounding conga patterns that intertwine with the original’s melodic motifs. The inclusion of deep, groovy basslines and a male spoken vocal adds narrative depth and cultural dimension, making the track both meditative and danceable. The careful dynamic range management ensures smooth transitions and energetic peaks without harshness, supporting both club and wellness applications. From a production perspective, both remixes demonstrate high-caliber sound design and arrangement. Helsloot’s version leverages melodic layering and harmonic progressions to sustain tension and release, perfect for peak-hour sets, while THEMBA & Kintar’s remix uses atmospheric pads, reverb-drenched effects, and spatial delays to evoke a trance-like state. The drop-to-break transitions are expertly timed, enhancing cue point usability and loop potential for DJs. Research suggests that rhythmically engaging electronic music can elevate mood, improve focus, and enhance the enjoyment of physical activity (Thompson et al., 2012; Karageorghis & Priest, 2015). The steady BPMs of 123–124 foster flow states in fitness and dance classes by synchronizing movement with rhythm, while the rich harmonic content and spatial design can encourage relaxation and stress reduction in wellness settings. The hypnotic repetition common to progressive and Afro house has been linked to meditative effects, potentially lowering cortisol levels and enhancing emotional well-being (Koelsch et al., 2010). Both remixes successfully reimagine My Lexicon for contemporary audiences while maintaining its timeless appeal. Helsloot’s version excels in melodic drive and technical precision, whereas THEMBA & Kintar’s remix offers atmospheric depth and rhythmic vitality. Together, they provide not only club-ready tracks but also pieces with tangible mental health and fitness benefits, making them valuable additions to both professional DJ sets and wellness-oriented playlists. #PureGold Love iT[/content]

‘Elements Of Africa’ distills the continent’s soul into nine evocative Afro-electronic tracks inspired by the core values of African identity.

Globally celebrated South African DJ and producer THEMBA today proudly unveiled his highly anticipated second studio album, ‘Elements Of Africa’, out now on Armada Music. A deeply personal body of work that pays tribute to his home continent, ‘Elements Of Africa’ sees THEMBA venture into a broader Afro-electronic sound—blending intricate arrangements, diverse instrumentation, and cross-cultural vocal textures.

Rooted in his upbringing on the outskirts of Johannesburg, and crafted primarily in South Africa with further development while touring the globe, ‘Elements Of Africa’ distills the soul of a continent into nine meticulously composed tracks. Each is a personal interpretation by THEMBA of a core facet of African identity—celebrating the human spirit, humility and strength, the power of love, teamwork, wisdom, hope and faith, creativity, God’s presence, and respect.

“The concept of ‘elements’ is something I’ve deeply connected with throughout the making of this album,” says THEMBA. “Each track is linked to a value or emotion that to me makes up the African spirit. For me, those “elements” can be translated into rhythms, tones, and textures that best reflect that element—so I let that guide the creative process. Africa is not just a place—it’s a feeling, a rhythm, and above all, a way of being.”

Sonically, ‘Elements Of Africa’ spans several diverse layers of the Afro-electronic spectrum—from melodic, piano-led tracks such as ‘Akasha’ (feat. Double Touch) and ‘Vuthelani’ with Benchek (feat. Bukeka), to powerful dancefloor anthems such as ‘Cantando’ (feat. Nicinha) and ‘Kumbuka’ (with IDQ) that weave in vocal storytelling in multiple South African languages—including Zulu and Xhosa. Rich in collaboration, the album sees THEMBA work alongside vocalists, producers, and instrumentalists from across the African continent and beyond.
THEMBA adds: "This album is filled with voices that bring spiritual depth, poetry, and ancestral resonance. Some are close collaborators; others are artists I’ve long admired. Each brought their own essence to the music. In creating it, I wanted to explore more corners of Afro-electronic, pushing into melodic and experimental spaces.”

[item value="10"]The Good Men, THEMBA & Khenya - Give It Up [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]The Good Men, also known as Chocolate Puma, have breathed new life into their classic track "Give iT Up" with a riveting remix crafted by THEMBA & Khenya. This 124 BPM afrohouse masterpiece is not just a mere reinterpretation but a technically sophisticated production that highlights advanced sound engineering and meticulous attention to detail. The remix stands out through its expertly layered tribal afrohouse drums, creating a dynamic rhythmic foundation that is both complex and invigorating. The percussion elements are finely tuned, with intricate polyrhythms characteristic of afrohouse, providing a rich texture that complements the track’s energetic pulse. The drum programming employs a combination of traditional African percussive instruments blended seamlessly with digital drum machines, offering a bridge between organic and synthetic sounds. Iconic ethnic melodies weave through the track, driven by carefully modulated synthy riffs. These riffs employ subtractive synthesis techniques, utilizing low-pass filters to shape the harmonic content and create a warm, resonant tone that contrasts beautifully with the sharp, percussive elements. The melodic lines are crafted with precision, using automation to subtly evolve the timbre and sustain listener interest throughout the track. The vocal elements are another cornerstone of the remix. Processed through advanced vocal effects chains, including reverb, delay, and slight pitch modulation, the vocals retain their emotive quality while seamlessly integrating with the track's overall sonic landscape. The producers have skillfully used EQ and dynamic range compression to ensure the vocals sit perfectly in the mix, neither overpowering nor getting lost among the instrumentation. Driving punchy kicks, underpinned by pulsating basslines, establish a solid groove. The bass synthesis showcases deft use of sidechain compression, synchronized with the kick to create a "pumping" effect that enhances the track's dancefloor energy. The hypnotic synth leads are crafted using layered oscillators and phase modulation, creating a lush, expansive soundscape that propels the track forward. In conclusion, this remix is a testament to THEMBA & Khenya’s production prowess. It’s a masterclass in blending traditional afrohouse elements with modern electronic production techniques, resulting in a track that is both technically impressive and irresistibly danceable. #PureGold Love iT. [item value="10"]THEMBA feat. Fela Kuti and Afrika 70 - Zombie (Herd Mix)[/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Superb afrohouse remix that works perfectly on any big housefloor. Superb percussion, fantastic African vocals, cool melodies and hypnotic atmosphere that you wish to last forever. THEMBA releases are always quality house beauties and this Herd remix is equally attractive to the ear and will move any housefloor worldwide. #PureGold Love IT[/content]
