The Subculture favourite Nikolauss returns, fresh from the news of his signing to Music First Agency, with momentum firmly at his back. One of the most consistent and driven names in the scene, Nikolauss looks set to take things to the next level. His latest single, Komyo, is an angelic slice of power trance: uplifting, radiant, and unmistakably Nikolauss. Think M.O.R.P.H., think van Deynhoven, but sharpened through his own lens of soaring leads and meticulous structure. Another statement release from an artist stepping fully into his prime.

[item value="10"]Nikolauss - Komyo [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Nikolauss’s latest release, “Komyo”, is a masterclass in modern trance production, demonstrating technical precision and artistic maturity in every aspect of its creation. Operating at a crisp 140 BPM, the track immediately asserts itself with pounding metallic kicks and a driving bassline that provides the rhythmic backbone. The groove is both relentless and fluid, enhanced by carefully layered percussive elements that subtly shift energy levels without overcomplicating the mix. This rhythmic drive ensures that the track maintains a club-ready momentum while staying perfectly in sync with professional DJ workflows, making it ideal for seamless cueing and looping in live sets. The melodic architecture of “Komyo” is meticulously crafted, weaving together emotive piano chords, ethereal plucks, and lush orchestral strings to create a soaring harmonic tapestry. The main lead is bright and angelic, with a timbral richness that evokes the euphoric trance aesthetics of M.O.R.P.H. and van Deynhoven, yet sharpened by Nikolauss’s own sonic identity. Harmonic layering is executed with precision, as each melodic phrase interacts dynamically with the underlying progression, ensuring maximum emotional resonance. Transitions and build-ups in the track are a study in tension and release. Nikolauss employs elongated breakdowns that strip the arrangement down to its most delicate elements—piano, pads, and atmospheric effects—before gradually reintroducing energy through filtered synths and orchestral swells. The drop is both powerful and cathartic, with a perfectly sculpted euphoric climax that balances intensity with clarity. Effects and spatial design play a critical role here, as reverb tails, stereo imaging, and subtle delay feedback create a sense of vastness and immersion that engulfs the listener. From a production standpoint, “Komyo” exhibits exceptional sound design and dynamic balance. The low end is tight and controlled, allowing the kick and bass to drive the track without muddying the mix. Mid-range elements are given space to breathe, ensuring that the lead melodies and harmonic layers remain vivid and emotionally engaging. The high frequencies are crisp but never harsh, contributing to a polished, festival-ready sound. Nikolauss’s attention to spatial detail is evident in the way elements glide across the stereo field, enhancing the track’s cinematic quality. Every aspect of the arrangement reinforces its storytelling arc. The intro and outro are structured for easy integration into live sets, with clean energy ramps that support smooth transitions and looping potential. The track’s cohesion and narrative flow are palpable, offering listeners an emotional journey that builds towards a feel-good euphoric peak. Furthermore, its originality lies not in reinventing the genre, but in refining its core elements into a highly expressive and technically flawless form. With “Komyo,” Nikolauss firmly establishes himself as an artist in his prime—delivering a piece that is as emotionally resonant as it is technically accomplished. From its club-ready drive to its festival-scale euphoria, it checks every box for trance enthusiasts and professional DJs alike, ensuring maximum impact on the dance floor and high replay value for dedicated listeners.. #PureGold Love iT[/content]

Romanian powerhouse Nikolauss returns to Subculture with The Future We See, a forward-facing uplifter that blends his trademark intensity with emotional precision. There’s no nostalgia here, only momentum, vision, and the unmistakable Nikolauss sound.

Dimitris Kechagias Review:
[review top="1"]
[item value="10"]Nikolauss - The Future We See [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Romanian powerhouse Nikolauss returns to Subculture with "The Future We See," an uplifting trance masterpiece that exemplifies his signature blend of intensity and emotional depth. This 142 BPM euphoric anthem showcases meticulous craftsmanship, both in its production process and technical execution. The track kicks off with energetic, pulsating basslines that are meticulously layered to create a driving, rhythmic foundation. Nikolauss employs sidechain compression to achieve that characteristic pumping effect, allowing the bass to breathe seamlessly with the punchy, metallic kicks. These kicks are sculpted using precise EQ adjustments and transient shaping, ensuring they cut through the mix with clarity without overpowering other elements. Pounding drums, crafted with a combination of synthetic and acoustic samples, add dynamic texture. The hi-hats and percussive elements are treated with subtle reverb and delay, providing depth and spatial movement that enrich the stereo field.
The melodic synths, a hallmark of Nikolauss’s sound, are designed using a blend of virtual analog synthesizers and advanced digital plugins. Layering is key here—bright, soaring leads are complemented by warm pads and plucks, each occupying its own frequency range. The synth plucks feature intricate automation on filter cutoffs and resonance, gradually building tension throughout the arrangement. The long breakdown is a showcase of ethereal beauty, populated with haunting female vocal chops layered with lush, ambient textures. Nikolauss masterfully employs granular synthesis techniques to manipulate these vocals, creating an otherworldly, airy pad effect that serves as an emotional anchor. As the breakdown progresses, tension is meticulously constructed through rising synth arpeggios and subtle acid overtones. The acid lines, generated using resonant filters and distortion units, add a gritty, raw edge that contrasts beautifully with the pristine melodic elements. Automation lanes are heavily utilized to control the intensity, gradually increasing filter resonance and drive to lead into the euphoric, head-banging climax. "The Future We See" is not just a track; it’s an anthem that exemplifies Nikolauss’s technical prowess and visionary approach to trance music. Every element is thoughtfully crafted, from the meticulous sound design to the dynamic arrangement. The result is an absolutely magical composition that transcends the typical club track, offering an immersive auditory experience. #PureGold Love IT [/content]

Since Key4050 first addressed crowds at 2017’s Dreamstate SoCal, John O’Callaghan & Bryan Kearney’s horde of purpose-built, set-exclusive material has been locked up tighter than Fort Knox. Audiences at EDC Mexico, Bangkok’s Transmission and the Subculture arena event at Melbourne’s Hisense have subsequently fallen under its thrall. Remaining the sole preserve of their kinetic, redline-pushing set experiences, no track titles, personal insights or take-home music has become public.

Fourteen months after that first performance however 4050’s key is finally starting to turn. The moment some thought might never happen… is. Through the ‘Tales From The Temple’ album John & Bryan are prepped to release all that set-jet fuel en masse.

Blazing the path for the release of an entire 32-track arsenal’s worth of material on Feb 15, the first music to be made officially available from the pair’s union arrives today. Four of the duo’s festival flamers (‘Utterly Butterly’, ‘Birch’, ‘Finkle und Einhorn’ and ‘The Truth’) are available now through Spotify and as pre-order Instant Grats.

If you’ve seen Key4050 first-hand, you’ll know the type of pressure that’s on the rise here. If not, well this quad will put you in the no-uncertain-terms picture. A compression of carnivorous bass, drum march, staccato percussion and techno-tenacity, pinning together polygraph-tense drops and all wrapped up with their HD studio work, Key4050’s output is energy redefined.

And the fine release news doesn’t end there even. If the aforementioned has you foaming at the mouth for more, well the first official Key4050 single hits stores but a week later. A narcotic, psychotropic passage to tech-trance’s outer limits; ‘Beetlejuice’ drops Feb 1.

‘Key 4050’s ‘Tales From The Temple’ follows on February 15 (full tracklist details below). For early access to ‘Utterly Butterly’, ‘Birch’, ‘Finkle und Einhorn’ and ‘The Truth’, hit this link (https://key4050.choons.at/tales).

A touch shy of its tenth anniversary, John O’Callaghan gives an awing glance back to one of the classic offerings from his ‘Never Fade Away’ album. Written by Jaren (Cerf), lent voice by the lyricist’s sister Josie and originally given the most stirring of melodic treatments by JOC, today the Subculture boss lines ‘Out Of Nowhere’ up with a masterful reworking.

Giuseppe Ottaviani made his own mark on ‘Never Fade Away’, collaborating with John on ‘Liquid Fire’. Now the Italian returns to make another, remixing out its angles in his trademark powerfull elevating style and finding a new place in the night for it.

On the remix Giuseppe again acquits himself with artistic and creative energy you’ve come to know and love. He sits Josie’s opening verses atop some full-frequency bass and warm, embracing sub-melodies. Her cool mid-western tones bring the heart, and as Giuseppe’s mix opens up into its full-beam synth radiance, her soul-touching chorus’ reaches every corner of the club.

John O'Callaghan Feat Josie – ‘Out Of Nowhere’ (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix) is out now. Check it out for yourself here today: https://subculture.choons.at/nowhere-giuseppe

01: John O'Callaghan – Next Stop Muddy Waters (Original Mix)

Hanging a hard stylistic right from his ‘Two Trees’ release, its ‘Next Stop Muddy Waters’ for Subculture boss, John O’Callaghan.

Leaving the piano-rich, upliftingly themed vistas of ‘Trees’ behind, the Irishman’s next singles juncture sees him head down a markedly different road. Harsher, harder, leaner, faster and altogether later night in its appeal, this is JOC at his most stripped down and pugnaciously ramped-up.

An ID set weapon at his shows stretching back to last summer, ahead of its final uncloaking in December, no small measure of fan speculation accompanied its progress.

Primed through bold drums, bracing tempo, three-dimensional bass and no short order of riding percussion and acidic pH-pow, ‘Next Stop’ displays the toughest of sonic signatures. Punching hard around trance’s midrange, churning, curling and finally all-out blistering 303 send its mercury flying. Converging around an unfurling synth struck mainline, John manipulates the two elements to conspire a drop that’ll leave other tracks for dust. ‘Next Stop Muddy Waters’… is out and it has performed already great in the various download shops, buy here.

Craig Connelly’s a man who knows how to start a New Year the right way. He kicked off 2017 with the release of his album debut ‘One Second Closer’ and he’s quicker off the blocks yet again in 2018 with new single ‘Lost Without You’.

Representing new post-‘One Second Closer’ material from the Manchester-based producer, it sees him on a first time studio-connect with singer Kate Miles.

If her name/voice sounds familiar, well likely it’s for good reason. The Norwegian songstress has been lending her tones to electronic music tracks from as far back as 2009. ‘Lost’ sees her bring the same sweetly sung touch she did to - amongst others - Allure/Tiësto’s ‘My Everything’. With her voice instilling its emotional core, ‘Lost Without You’s lyrical theme will resonate with many, and far beyond the walls of a club.

Craig equalizes Kate’s lament with chord & pad empathy, a primetime chiming tempo, and synths, strings & bass that speak directly to the dancefloor. Trance elevation cut from classic production cloth, if you’re in need of New Year uplift, step this way! ‘Lost Without You’s out now.
