Some anniversaries need to be celebrated and the 10 years anniversary of John Askews classic - Battery Acid - is definitely one of them.

As one of the tracks that helped define Tech Trance as a genre, Battery Acid is as iconic today as when it was released.

Fast forward 10 years and Zach Zlov and Ellez Ria have delivered stunning remixes to further compliment the Original.

Zach Zlov is on fire right now - with the likes of Askew and Patterson hammering his tunes. This remix shows us exactly why. With Askew's original acid line featuring heavily in the remix, Zach Zlov has further pushed the filth and drive to maximum levels. Approved by the man himself - Zach Zlov's remix more than does the original justice!!!

As do both interpretations from Ellez Ria. It's still all about the acid but brought bang into the now from both remixers.

Pure quality that does not disappoint!!

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]John Askew is considered as one of the main driving forces in the UK Trance sound and his  Battery Acid is seminal classic ready to come back for more with 3 turbo charged remixes that will be difficult to avoid on the dancefloors the coming months. Zach Zlov provides his powerful dark tech trance flavoured anthem with fat thumping drums, hard hitting basslines, full on acid overtones and superb arrangement that keeps you at the edge of your seat waiting the next moment to jump up a little higher. Ellez Ria goes for 2 very nice takes. Arkam Reborn version is more straight forward psy tech trance with slamming old school ravey synthy stabs, acid overtones and long melodic fuelled breakdown followed by edgy rough beats. ReFeel version adopts uplifting trance beats, driving head on basslines, cool breakdown with acid playful touches leading to the ethereal breakdown that carry us away to the ferocious totally earthshaking climax with that dark moody twisted edge. Top notch versions not to be missed. #PureGold Love It  [/content]

It's always a biggie when the man at the helm of Discover Dark delivers a new single and once again Oberon does not disappoint.

Visions is an excursion through the darkest realms of tech trance.

Expect deep bass and thundering percussion fused with a bit of old school, some filtered acid, and dirty stabs.

Discover Dark favourites Origin are on remix duty and they deliver a superb interpretation.

Tasso is back with another slice of audio darkness.

Airstrikes is a brooding cut full of moody stabs that weave perfectly around the vocal sample before dropping an infectious hook that is as filthy as it is memorable.

Discover Dark favourite Cristian Ketelaars pulls no punches with the remix making this a superb package that stays dark and deep from beginning to end.

Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover Dark is back with a bang and the massive Tasso brings the massive anthem called Airstrikes. The original mix is a powerful headbanging aggressive tech trancer with rough banging booming drums and superb aggressive razor sharp like blade basslines. The breakdown is the moment of the excellent vocal sample that you will adore if you follow the news. The climax goes for an uncompromising unstoppable energetic climax that punches and pushes to the top.  Cristian Ketelaars Remix is equally devastating and ready to bring lethal weapons of mass destruction on the dancefloor! Fast and furious basslines melted with maddening metallic drums and heavy dark rave like synthy lines that will keep you dancing for long. This is dark rough and rioting trance! #LoveIT

Very few DJs can lay claim to being one of the forefathers of a genre – Oberon is one of these DJs.

During the 1990’s, he championed the sound through both DJ sets and productions, which fused the harder-edge of Techno with the melodic-side of Trance.

Fast-forward several years, the sound we now refer to as Tech-Trance is as popular as ever, with the UK label Discover Dark being at the forefront of the scene.

It should therefore be no surprise that Oberon heads the A&R team for the label overseeing such talent as Peter Plaznik, Chris Voro, Origin, Cristian Ketelaars, Deathmind, Johann Stone and many more.

Since returning as the only UK DJ to hold a 3-year residency in Argentina, Oberon has been heads-down in the studio producing the next wave of underground Trance together with hosting the monthly Dark Sessions Radio show.

Throughout his career, Oberon has held residencies at all of the major London underground Trance clubs including Pendragon, Antiworld and Escape From Samsara (The Fridge and Brixton Academy). He has also played regularly at clubs around London and the UK, as well as globetrotting to more than 20 countries, including Japan, Canada, Holland, Germany, Australia,

Recent productions for Discover Dark, Discover White Label and Recover have made a healthy impact on the charts of the cooler underground download stores. All of his releases have been top 10’s - an outstanding streak. His tracks have also appeared in the charts and playlists of DJs including Radio 1's Jordan Suckley, Thomas Datt, Indecent Noise and Christopher Lawrence along with a whole host of internet radio and podcasts.

The Oberon remix of the Goa-Trance classic, T.I.P.'s 'Stimuli' has received rave reviews across the board, including support from Paul Oakenfold.

This adds nicely to the massive support his many vinyl releases have received over the years, having been played by DJ's the world over and used on compilations by artists as diverse as Christopher Lawrence, Talla 2XLC and the late Tony De Vit.

2014 looks set to be a massive year for Oberon, seeing the release of both his debut artist album and several singles. He will also be taking the reigns of the coveted Dark Sessions compilation series together with a planned series of live dates.

Dimitri: Can you mention your biggest achievements in your music career in 2014 and your personal life if it is something that you wish to share with our readers?

Oberon: Discover Dark 100 was probably the biggest thing I was involved in musically this year- I knew I wanted to do something special for the 100th release, and originally planned for a 4-6 track remix EP, but one thing lead to another, then another and eventually we ended up with an 18 track album of remixes of classic Discover Dark tracks by established D. Dark artists and some new up and coming names- I managed to squeeze all of the tracks into a mix and that was released on CD. Sourcing remix packs for the original tracks took a while, and overseeing the project from conception to completion was much more work then I originally anticipated, but it was worth every minute, and I'm extremely pleased with the result.

Dimitri: 2014 was packed with releases from so many different styles, which Electronic Music style you believe is the absolute Electronic Music Style Of 2014 in the mainstream indifferent if you like it or not. Why you believe this style became so successful in 2014?

Oberon: I'm in trance, that's where I have been for all of my career in dance music, so I don't pay much attention to other genres of music, I'm simply not that interested in life outside of trance. It's been a great year for trance, with the scene making a big shift away from the melodic/ uplifting sound of recent years and into a tougher, deeper sound. There has been some amazing tech trance and psy releases this year.

1) Best Track:
Oberon: Relentless by Project 8- an incredible tune by Shane Kinsella from Dublin, Ireland

2) Best Artist (Dj & producer):
Oberon: Too many great artists to choose from !!!  Peter Plaznik and Johan Ekman are two names that I can think of.

3) Best Remix:
Oberon: David Rust- Monolith (The Technicians remix) The Technicians seem to go for quality over quantity when it comes to releases and it shows in this remix, it's an amazing piece of work.

4) Best Remixer:
Oberon: Casey Rasch- I love Casey's work, he always comes up with something new and interesting and he can produce psy and tech trance to a very high quality- a great guy to work with as well.

5) Best New Talent (Dj or producer):
Oberon: There's so much great new talent out there- Gasper Pavlic (Changes/ G8) is certainly coming up this year, UP3 blew a few people away with their debut release on Discover Dark (Balrog), and there is more great stuff coming from them; Dee Henry, aka Kinetica has put his stamp on 2014 with some very strong releases- as well as Dark Air. If these guys keep up the pressure, 2015 will be another great year for trance.

6) Best Electronic Music Album:
Oberon: Pure Tones by Sinerider on 24/7 Records- top quality psy trance, great to play at high volume in the car- The car is my testing place for albums, if the music works well there, I know it will work on the dancefloor, and this album kicks from beginning to end.

7) Best Electronic Music Compilation:
Oberon: Discover Dark 100 of course !!!

8) Best artwork/cover of an Album or Compilation:
Oberon: Madness Express by vertical Mode would make an excellent poster for my studio wall :)

09) Best Electronic Music Label:
Oberon: Discover Dark (of course!!) for tech trance and HOMmega for psy trance.

10) Best personal selfie of the year, where, when and under which circumstances you took it?
Oberon:  I took my daughter to Stonehenge for the summer solstice, it was her first time there- an amazing experience and I bagged a few good photos, but I don't usually do selfies.

11) Best music composition software:
Oberon: Cubase or Ableton, depends on what i'm doing and how I feel at the time

12) Best personal Dj Gig:
Oberon: I played a 5 hour set at Magic in Buenos Aires which was a lot of fun, and Planet Zogg's summmer ball in Sheffield was very good this year- Zogg have been running underground trance parties around Sheffield for well over 10 years now, doing their own thing, doing it their way- always a great vibe with top people. Tribe Of Frog's birthday bash at Lakota in Bristol was another outstanding date- a thousand plus of the nicest people you could ever wish to spend a night with, I was playing in the Ripsnorter room, it rocked.

13) Best Dj set of the year from other fellow Dj:
Oberon: Greg Zogg @ Planet Zogg- harder and more intense than you can imagine.

14) Best country that you have visited to perform with the most up for it crowd:
Oberon: Argentina is the best place for any DJ to play, that's it.

15) Best Radio show:
Oberon: Apart from my own Dark Sessions show, the only ones I listen to are  Recoverworld radio and Trance Stoned by El- Jay, both of which are on the same station, on the same night as Dark Sessions !

16) Best Radio station:
Oberon: Digitally Imported

17) Best Online Record shop that you purchase your music:
Oberon: Beatport

18) Best Website that you visit frequently:
Oberon:  www.rt.com gives you all the news that the other news channels don't/won't. I don't have a television, and I don't read newspapers, so I get all my news and current affairs online.

19) Best Smart phone/Mobile phone device:
Oberon:  I have a Samsung Galaxy, but I often wish I didn't. While I appreciate the convenience of these items, I try not to use them for anything other than basic phone/ e mail/ camera purposes.

20) Best Dj equipment (software or hardware):
Oberon: Anything with Pioneer written on it gets my vote.

21) Best tip that you learnt this year for your Djing techniques or music composition:
Oberon: I'm not telling you that !!

22) Best hobby or activity that you spent a lot of time in 2014:
Oberon:  I do a lot of gardening, I enjoy being in the fresh air and I find that growing things is a very satisfying pastime.

23) Best holiday destination for 2014 that you manage to visit this year either to relax or to perform in a club or festival:
Oberon:  It's been a hectic, quite intense year for me in many ways, not just regarding music,so I didn't get much chance to sit on a beach and chill, but i'm ok with that, beacuse I live in a small town surrounded by some amazing countryside, so I can be somewhere really cool within half an hour of leaving home.

24) Best Book of the year preferably related to Electronic Music:
Oberon: I havn't read a book for some time now- I used to read at night before sleeping, but these days i'm so tired at the end of the day that I don't have the ability to stay awake that extra hour to read.

25) Best Movie of the year preferably related to Electronic Music that may inspire you to compose a track:
Oberon: I enjoy watching movies, but it seems like ages since I saw one, and I think the last music related movie I saw was East End Babylon, the story of the (punk/ skinhead band) Cockney Rejects- a great movie, but nothing to do with electronic music.

26) Best online/PC/video game of the year that you have played this year?
Oberon:  I don't play games, don't spend any time at all on that kind of thing,  I used to play Manic Miner on a Spectrum, but that was a very long time ago.

Dimitri: Finally, 2015 is ahead of us would you like to tell your plans with your future releases, tracks, albums, collaborations, Dj gigs.

Oberon:  Things are really taking off with Militant Artists management/ agency at the minute, so i'm predicting a busy year ahead, which is good, because I enjoy being busy, and every spare minute will be devoted to writing/ producing tunes, running the label and presenting the radio show. :)

Thanks very much to Les for his time to reply on this interview

Many thanks to Hannah at Militant Artists for her support to organise this interview

In the build up to Discover Dark's 100th release, it is fitting to see a release from the man that started it all off.

Four classic Askew tracks mixed to perfection by some of the scenes hottest talent together with the two winners of John's recent Australian Remix competition who sit comfortably alongside their fellow remixers.Amir Hussain's remix has already featured on ASOT 666 and the buzz around this release looks set to grow and grow.

All you need to do is ask yourself...... are you afraid of the dark?

Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover Dark presents the must expected new remixes of the classic trance anthems produced by the hands of the trance master John Askew. 5 brand new exceptional remixes that will feel you space with energy and darkness of course.First of all the upcoming and quickly rising to the top of his game Harmonic Rush drops his full on energetic tech meets psy trance version of the awesome Giving You Acid. He does what he knows best by toughening the heavy metallic drum beat, adding his punchy fast and furious bassline while he keeps his arrangement playful with frequent stop and goes where he usually applies some clever vocal samples. The breakdown is where all the magic happens with Indian hair raising traditional melodies and ethnic vocals. The beat strikes back and goes full on acid hard tech trance with psy trance flavours in it as well. Superb banger that targets huge trance stages and arenas this summer from the producer who never goes wrong. Vlind is adding his translation on Fade To Black and he does his best to impress. He adopts classic uplifting trance foundation with groove and bassline that is powerful and punchy while on top he adds the psy trance identified synths and heavy doses of acid overtones. The breakdown starts with ethereal heavenly female voices and very soon the massive euphoric synthy riff appears to energize your senses and elevate you to a higher dimension. The climax is twisted and surprising as it starts in truly damaged and freaked out way but very soon comes in the full on euphoric uplifting trance section that will blow for sure and make you feel like being part of Star Wars in truly space trance sound. Amir Hussain continues to attract the attention with his mouthwatering remix on Z List Uber Star. His version is stunning for various reasons. The main is of course his tough and rough pumping drums and pulsating basslines melted with acid riffs. His breakdown includes smashing breakbeats sequence  that builds the tension and fantastic build up that tease you like dancing in hot bubbling water. The climax is dark and ultra rough but is really exceptional how he recreates the original melody with acid layers that push your senses to the limits. Sensualise is doing top remix on The Witch.  His remix starts with cinematic intro that adds great atmosphere particularly if you use it as an intro track in your dj set. His main part follows the modern psy trance meets tech trance sound without being strictly the one or the other. It has influences from the UK hard house sound of the late 90's that djs like the late Tony De Vit was playing on top clubs like Trade. His arrangement is really surprising with many sound effects that keep you interested wondering what is coming next. On The Witch is on remix duties the top Serjan as well. His version is influenced widely from neo Psy trance, tech trance and uplifting trance style as well.  He follows a very personal playful style that will surprise the listener as it starts quite dark and techy but very soon moves to the uplifting trance section with old school piano riffs, euphoric synths and various cool synthy plucks arranged with frequent stops and goes and great application of the various vocal samples. Of course his breakdown attempts to be very uplifting with old school piano melodies that will uplift the crowd straight away with mindblowing climax that will smashes many speakers, you have been warned. It can be easily named as a big damager that nobody can be responsible for the side effects of it! #PureGold Love IT

Following up from their single release on Discover White Label earlier this year, one of the UK's finest Trance double-acts The Technicians unleash their darker-side with their debut single on Discover Dark.

'The Power of the Darkside' is a stomping, acid-led and powerful exploration of the force of Trance. Fellow UK producer Re:Creation joins them on the remix with his Psy-Trance take on the original - unmissable stuff.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?!

Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover Dark is the record label that specialises in the darker tech trance sound that is not so fluffy but focuses on the manic hard to control bassline. The Technicians deliver their anthem The Power of the Darkside. Clever hard tech trance that bangs and grooves with powerful grooves, energetic smashing basslines and dark and sinister synths combined with cinematic vocal samples from Star Wars. It's sharp, uncompromising and absolutely in your face remix that wins your attention straight away and you start wondering what is this monster tune that is playing at the moment. If you search for a modern neo psy trance sound that is playful with clever stop and goes effects and constant change and evolution don't loose the opportunity to play the Re:Creation Remix. The breakdown is really interesting as it starts melodic but scratching like effects are used to disturb our dedication to it and underline it's very creative and modern approach on the psytrance sound that nowadays is more club influenced and less strictly underground as it was at the beginning! Massive dark trance bangers! Love iT

Moving over from Discover Digital, British producer and DJ Robbie Van Doe has had a busy year, having released singles on Nu Depth, Mental Asylum amongst others, and now joins Discover Dark for this pumped-up new release 'Deception'.

The original is fuelled by a colossal energy that deceives the mind before delving into a full-on, high-octane acid hook.

Discover Dark companion Johann Stone jumps on board with a pumping remix which shifts the darkness of the original and brings a floor-filling synths - this is massive, big room stuff.

Dimitri Kechagias review: Robbie van Doe from Wolverhampton UK comes next on Discover Dark and presents his magnificent hard trancer Deception. If you are fan of the harder tech trance meets acid trance sound don't miss this banger that has already the support of the biggest trance djs in the scene. Dynamic, banging, powerful and unstoppable with massive synthy lead running upon the heavy drums and energetic basslines. The breakdown includes plucky synths and massive rave style distorted synthy riffs that sound dark and sinister and will uplift your spirit followed by the huge acid overtones that drive the track to the ultra hard banging and booming climax. If you are weak hearted better consider to not press play on this track cause it can cause serious heart attacks issues. On the other hand the top producer Johann Stone from Iceland provides the progressive meets big room meets tech trance version that definitely attempts to be something really unique and different. Progressive trance beats, deep haunting basslines and aggressive synths combined to cause mayhem and destruction on the floor. Groovy beats, addictive rhythm, superb sound design on the breakdown with uplifting melodies while his climax is techy, chunky, psy trance infused and very nasty indeed.   Johann solid composition ensures that the crowd will go totally wild when this will be played in  the progressive moment of your trance set. Love iT

Chris Voro returns to Discover Dark with 'Anathema'. This cracking follow-up to last year's 'Sentics' is a stomping, stark romp through the darker side of the genre.

In 'Anathema', Voro combines the strong kick with the intensity of acid and even a small section of breaks. On the remix are Discover's Peter Hulsmans, fellow Discover Dark artists Deathmind & Estigma and Komplex Sound's Casey Rasch.

Welcome, to the Dark Side.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The very talented Greek trance producer Chris Voro with releases on many prolific record labels incl Perfecto records returns on Discover Dark with something really spicy and very exceptional of course. The track is named Anathema follows the gloomy moody dark tech trance sound that is well known for along with his psy trance tracks as well. Tough metallic drum beats, sharp kicks, driving basslines and stunning breakdown with cinematic vocal samples and choir vocal that adds that spiritual edge to it. His climax is totally out of order as he goes for a manic and shocking dirty tech trance bass focused section that will send you to space and beyond. Peter Hulsmans gift mix is a totally different story. He goes for the melodic psy prog trance sound that is quite groovy and very melodic as well. The acid overtones add to the track its hypnotic edge and the cool synthy melody comes and goes to create a very colourful and relaxing version. Deathmind & Estigma are on board and their version continues on the dark tech trance pathway. The first part of the track is very bouncy and euphoric with awesome synths and trancy voices. The breakdown is dominating from the mouthwatering synthy that you wish to last for hours but unfortunately soon ends as the climax follows  with dark moody synths, heavy percussion and tough drums. The final section finishes off the track on psy trance mood.  Lastly for the pure psy trance followers Casey Rasch lands with his spacey full on acid psy trance makeover. Packed with variation and many sound layers is definitely a complex remix that reaches its goal to make you sweat on the dancefloor! This is What I Call Dark Trance! Love it

Icelandic producer and DJ Johann Stone debuts on the Discover Dark label with 'White Walkers'; a chilling, daunting and overtly cold production, brimming with acid, frost and darkness.

Accompanying the original is a terrific remix from Steve Morley which applies a more prolonged groove to the original.

Winter is coming, and the White Walkers move through the woods.

Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover Dark continues to surprise us pleasantly with top releases. The next one is produced by Johann Stone and is called White Walkers. Its a powerful hard trancer with tech trance influences as well. Solid and banging to the maximum is so good that if this release doesn't manage to move and shake you I don't know what will. Its arrangement will keep you occupied on the dancefloor letting all the inhibitions go and dancing along with those mysterious and threatening White Walkers. The breakdown is cinematic with stunning sound design with main stand out element the fantastic female spoken vocal sample about the White Walkers. The fear and insecurity you feel will give you goosebumps. The excitement though reaches red when the beat strikes back and we reach the magnificent climax. Its super hard with thunderous basslines and the epic synthy lead on top to make you feel like the hero of a movie against the forces of evil. Steve Morley after years of silence is back with many remixes and originals on various labels. On this one he delivers a much more straight forward uplifting trancer that remains on the dark underground style though. His climax is more steady without reaching the heights that the original version does with so much artistry. Of course Steve's remix is great for the moment you want to keep the dancefloor pumping but without over excitment. Love iT

N.O.A. debuts on Discover Dark with this fierce two tracker.

The Route brings with it searing acid lines and a huge riff with a very dark edge.

The Landscape carries equal weight delivering similar levels of tension and mayhem that are perfect Discover Dark fayre.

Definitely not for the faint hearted!!!

Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover Dark presents another awesome dark hard trance EP that deserves to be played a lot and loud. N.O.A offer us two super hard productions that will remind you how good dark hard trance is and how powerful and absolutely essential for your sets. The Route has that techno bouncy beat and heavy dark haunting bassline that we usually get on quality techno tracks. The breakdown is amazing with heavenly voices, trancy synths preparing as well for the huge burst of energy that comes in the climax  that is full on and in your  face and remind me a lot the classic by X-Cabs - Neuro that I would love to see coming back with many remixes as well. With touches of acid and psy trance definitely its superb underground banger that should be on your peak time trance list. The Landscape applies uplifting trance foundation with lighter beats and basslines, heavenly style voices, epic cinematic strings and awesome euphoric synths that appear in the long and teasing breakdown that raise the tension and prepare you well for the awesome burst of energy in the massive climax that is absolutely fire cracking. Both tracks manage to remain dark, underground but very melodic and emotional as well. This Is What I Call Trance, Love iT

Discover Dark wunderkind Jamie Drummond returns with the full-on, acid-enthused thriller 'Magic Man'.

Jamie conjures up the ominous original mix with an acid-focused intro, vicious chord-stabs and a deeply dark vocal sample. Discover Dark head-honcho Oberon brings further twistedness in his remix, complete with a double-helping of acid-lead trickery.

You cannot afford to miss this alchemist-at-work.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The top dark trance record label Discover Dark presents the magnificent Jamie Drummond production Magic Man. Once again the top Recoverworld sublabel shows to the world how it should be done when it come to dark and deadly trancers. The original mix is a powerful full on headbanger with solid composition and tight beats with plenty of acid on top and Gothic dark melodies. Of course chopped vocal samples and cinematic spoken vocal sample add the special character and identity to this top notch tune. If you need the aid of a nice trancer to energise you don't hesitate to seek the therapeutic vibes of the Magic Man. Oberon's Trickster remix combines successfully psy trance influences with acid trance and uplifting trance vibes in a very subtle and effective way. The hi-nrg synths are so hooky that you follow them all the way to oblivion. Very nice breakdown tease the proceedings and the climax that follows starts all techy and acid but soon the synths are coming back to please the ear. Two great tunes in one Dark and chocolaty package. Love iT

Peter Plaznik returns to Discover Dark with a great two track E.P. which looks further set to cement his reputation as one of the best tech trance producers on the scene today.

Fan's of Plaznik will not be let down and for those of you that have been hiding under a rock for the last three years, expect acidic leads, twisted vocals, throbbing bass and more than a hint of melody!

In short, sonic mayhem at its very best!!

Dimitri Kechagias review: Discover Dark presents another drop dead gorgeous dark trance EP by Peter Plaznik. The very creative producer does his best to impress. His two megabombs included will blow the speakers and cause hysteria for sure. His unique and established by now sound that is dark, sinister but with euphoric hints as well seems to work really well on  the dancefloor. Heavy Dose is pumping bouncy driving number with metallic beats , sharp driving basslines and atmospheric breakdown with cool spoken vocal sample. The climax goes all rough and rocking with spooky atmosphere while the main hi-nrg synth remains at the back understated at the beginning and in the final sequence becomes more prominent creating a sense of urgency. The 2nd superb track is called High Consciousness and is certainly another classy example of dark doomy gloomy tech trance with uplifting elements, acid overtones and psy trance infusions as well. The vocal sample in the breakdown is super clever and mind opening. Personally I love those spoken vocal samples with deep meanings that raise the consciousness of the listeners. Prime time trance weapons if you are not afraid the 138 BPM. Love iT
