DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs Poll is the world's biggest publicly voted music poll - with over 1 million votes in 2016 – and the definitive annual guide to the world's most popular DJs. In 2016, Martin Garrix, the 20-year-old Dutch superstar, was voted the youngest ever No.1 DJ, and took the coveted top spot from 2015 winners, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Voting for the 2017 edition of the Top 100 DJs Poll opened on Wednesday 5th July and runs until Wednesday 13th September at 11.59pm BST. Dance music fans can cast their vote at www.top100djs.com. This year’s Top 100 DJs Poll has seen a record-breaking number of votes – over 400,000 within the first 3 weeks.

The Top 100 DJs Poll results will be announced at a special awards show during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in October (further details and the event date will be announced soon). The full reveal will take place across DJ Mag's digital and social channels on the same night, finishing with the unveiling of The World's No.1 DJ. The magazine will then issue the Top 100 DJs print edition on 25th October, featuring interviews with every single DJ in the poll. Further Top 100 DJs events will be revealed soon.

UNICEF, the global children’s organization, is the official charity beneficiary of Top 100 DJs 2017. UNICEF works in over 190 countries around the world to keep all children healthy, happy and safe. They ensure more of the world’s children are vaccinated, educated and protected than any other organisation. DJ Mag will use the Top 100 DJs 2017 events and awards ceremony to raise money for UNICEF. Further details on Top 100 DJs fundraising activities will be announced soon.

In addition to Facebook and Google, a custom login has been created to open the poll up to territories, without access to Facebook & Google, specifically those in Asia, one of the new frontiers of international club culture. The app is now translated into Russian, Chinese (simplified) and Japanese, in addition to seven other global languages. These changes will dramatically expand the reach of the poll and ensure it remains inclusive and globally representative.

UNICEF UK Deputy Executive Director, Catherine Cottrell, said:
“We would like to thank DJ Mag for supporting UNICEF through the 2017 Top 100 DJs poll. The money raised through working with this long-established cornerstone of the dance music calendar will have a great impact on the lives of children around the world. DJ Mag readers’ donations will help UNICEF to continue to protect children in danger and transform their lives. With your help, we can make the world a safer place for children.”
DJ Mag Managing Director, Martin Carvell, said:
“We’re very excited to have UNICEF as the charity beneficiary of Top 100 DJs 2017. Both the Top 100 DJs and the dance music industry have grown immensely over the last 25 years. Over 1 million people voted in last year’s poll and with the continuing global expansion of electronic music, we feel that the time is right for us, as music fans, industry, and DJs, to give something back.

ABOUT THE TOP 100 DJS POLL
Top 100 DJs is the most globally representative poll of the world’s most popular DJs with over 1 million unique votes cast in 2016. The publicly voted poll inspires fierce debate across the year with speculation on the world’s No.1 DJ, new entries and biggest climbers dominating online discussion and beyond.

In 2016, votes in the Top 100 DJs Poll exceeded 1 million for the first time ever, with dance music fans taking part from almost every country on the planet. The most votes came from the US, followed by India, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, China, Japan, and beyond.

The Top 100 DJs Poll began as an editorial feature in October 1993, to celebrate DJ Mag's 100th issue. It was predominantly UK-based at first, but when the poll was opened up to the international scene via website voting, it truly exploded. As well as its significance for individual DJs, the Top 100 DJs Poll also documents the growth - or decline - of dance music scenes, reflecting the ebb and flow of genres as new sounds and scenes take hold and spread.

DJ Mag has revealed the results of the Top 100 DJs Poll 2016… and the world’s biggest publicly voted music poll has a new winner, Martin Garrix. The 20-year-old Dutch superstar is the youngest ever No.1 DJ, and takes the coveted top spot from 2015 winners, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

Martin Garrix was awarded the No.1 trophy by his mentor, Tiesto, on stage at the Top 100 DJs Poll Awards Party at the famous Heineken Music Hall. The event was the opening party in this year’s AMF, the largest festival of the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). The award caps a meteoric rise for Garrix over the past few years — ever since ‘Animals’ shot to No.1 in many countries around the world in 2013. He was odds-on favourite to win in 2016, after coming in at No.3 in 2015. Now one of the world’s biggest young music stars, he’s just as at home producing more underground styles of electronic dance music — and has set up some aliases in order to do so.
On receiving the award, Martin Garrix said: “It feels unreal to have won. I 100% did not expect it at all. I’ve had an amazing year, with awesome shows and amazing fans — I’m so thankful for their support. I didn’t even do a campaign, and it just shows how dope the fan-base is.”

As part of the extended awards ceremony at the Heineken Music Hall, thousands of dance music fans also witnessed performances from the Highest Live Act (KSHMR), Highest Ranked Female DJ (Nervo), Highest House DJ (Oliver Heldens), Highest Climber (Swanky Tunes), and the Highest Hard DJ (Angerfist).

This year, votes in the Top 100 DJs Poll exceeded 1 million for the first time ever, with dance music fans taking part from almost every country on the planet. The most votes came from the US, followed by India, Brazil, Mexico, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Russia, China, Japan and beyond.

For 2016, the voting platform was opened up to more territories, reflecting the new frontiers of international club culture. The app was translated into Russian, Chinese (simplified) and Japanese, in addition to seven other global languages. Voters in China were able to use Weibo - one of China’s biggest social media platforms.

There are 13 new entries and 6 re-entries. Last year’s winners, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, slip down to No.2. Hardwell also drops one place, to No.3, while the Top 10 remains largely unchanged — Armin van Buuren (No.4), Tiesto (5) and David Guetta (6) all keep the same positions as 2015. Avicii drops down to No.11, with Oliver Heldens jumping into the Top 10 from last year’s No.12  — making him the Highest House DJ. Skrillex stays at No.9 for the third year in a row, and Afrojack stays in the Top 10.

In the next ten, last year’s highest new entry KSHMR is up 11 to No.12 and Don Diablo is up 15 places to No.15 — his continued rise earning him the new Audi #Untaggable Award. Ummet Ozcan is up 17 to No.19, while just outside at No.22 — up 10 places — is DJ Snake. Calvin Harris, despite still being one of the highest earners, falls three places to No.14, while DVBBS, Diplo and Blasterjaxx slide out of the Top 20.

The highest ‘new’ name in this year’s chart is The Chainsmokers, who’ve re-entered the Poll. After breaking into it due to the success of their ‘#Selfie’ track a couple of years ago, they slid out into the next 50 last year but wham back in — into the top twenty — this time around, largely thanks to a repositioning of their sound.

The Highest New Entry is Marshmello. One place above him is Swanky Tunes — this year’s Highest Climbers. Other acts who’ve notably climbed many, many places up the chart include Quintino (up 48), Galantis (up 59), MaRLo (up 42) and Robin Schulz (up 30). The only other new entry in the top 50 is Florian Picasso, a relative of the famous artist Pablo, although Brazil’s Vintage Culture and Lost Stories from India are just outside. The latter join DJ Chetas, up 26 places to No.33, as representatives from India, one of electronic dance music’s most exciting new frontiers.

Re-entries into the Top 100 DJs Poll include Russian trance DJs, Bobina and DJ Feel; psy-trance Israelis, Infected Mushroom; Brazilian electro duo Felguk; and French house veteran Martin Solveig. In the world of hard dance, Angerfist is down eight places, but at No.46 is still the Highest Hard DJ. Armin van Buuren is still the Highest Trance DJ.

Female DJs are under-represented again this year. Only two female acts are in the chart — Aussie sisters Nervo are down 21 places, but Miss K8 from the Ukraine is up six to No.88. There’s only one drum & bass act in the Top 100 now — Netsky at No.85.

During the voting process, DJ Mag asked all voters their reasons for voting for the DJs they chose. The top answer was Music Style (36%), with 28% opting for DJ Skill and 24% for Production Ability. Only 3% suggested they voted for a DJ because of their popularity, and only 6% due to showmanship. This suggests that it’s not about who is famous or who performs various ‘antics’ behind the decks, but it’s the music and the way sets are put together, and shows the importance of production in helping a DJ/producer to break into the big-time.

In DJ Mag’s special Top 100 DJs Poll issue, the DJ Mag team has set out the 2016 chart in full and profile all of the DJs who appear. In terms of the set questions DJ Mag put to all the Top 100 DJs, there were responses about reducing drugs deaths at festivals, with many DJs suggesting that pill-testing stations should be introduced.

For the first time, DJ Mag has extrapolated data from the full Poll results to create a more ‘underground’ chart from the data — the Top 50 tech-leaning DJs (see below). All but Carl Cox aren’t in the Top 100 itself, and most didn’t campaign for the Poll, but it makes for fascinating reading. The magazine will be rolling out more of these genre polls as the Top 100 develops over the coming years.

The world’s biggest dance music media brand, DJ Magazine (DJ Mag), will publish its 25th anniversary issue on 28th April with a special edition focused on 25 electronic music pioneers from the past 25 years, alongside retrospectives on the technology, clubs, and genres that have impacted on dancefloors over the past quarter of a century. The 25th anniversary issue will feature the 25 pioneers on the cover, details of which will be released on the eve of publication.

To celebrate this significant achievement, DJ Mag has also announced a series of 25th anniversary events across the UK and in Ibiza running into summer 2016. The first 25th anniversary party will take place on 27th April at Phonox, London in association with Fabio & Grooverider (the d&b duo will also be celebrating their 25 year career that evening): click here

On Saturday 30th April will see DJ Mag take over Egg LDN with a line-up featuring Dennis Ferrer and Tania Vulcano: click here. All DJ sets will be streamed live via DJmag.com.

Space, Ibiza will then host the biggest DJ Mag 25th birthday event to date on 30th June. The line-up will be announced soon.

DJ Mag celebrates 25 years
“It’s quite a milestone, electronic dance music was traditionally seen as disposable and throwaway, so for us to have stuck around for a quarter of a century — especially in the current publishing climate — is quite an achievement,” said Carl Loben, editor of DJ Magazine. “Over the years DJ Mag has tried to reflect the whole spectrum of the music, which has grown exponentially since we’ve been alive. All contributors past and present, not to mention everyone who plays a part in our scene, have helped make the mag what it is today — the leading global publishing brand in electronic music.”

The 25th anniversary issue is on sale from Thursday 28th April, and available in the delegate bags at Sonar in Barcelona, the International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza, the Asia Music Conference in China and beyond.

ABOUT DJ MAG
The 25th anniversary is a key moment in the history of DJ Magazine. What began in 1991 as a print title for DJs and dance music fans in the UK is now an internationally-recognised media brand, with global platforms spanning print, digital media, video, awards (Top 100 DJs Poll, Top 100 Clubs, DJ Mag Tech Awards), tours, events, and live music streaming.

DJ Mag has helped launch the careers of many of the top names in electronic music, including Underworld, Basement Jaxx, Mylo, Maya Jane Coles, Justice, Tiesto, Hardwell and many more. The magazine gave the first major magazine covers to artists including Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, and has maintained an evolving focus on successive ‘underground’ scenes that have since become global phenomenons.

DJMag.com has in excess of 800,000 unique monthly users, 5 million monthly page views, 345,000 Twitter followers, and over 2 million Facebook fans. In addition to the UK print title, there are 10 DJ Mag international editions covering America, Latin America, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Turkey, China, India, and South East Asia.

Top 100 DJs Poll is the world’s biggest music poll, attracting 1 million annual voters from over 200 countries around the world. The voting runs from June until September, before the results are announced to a global audience in October. Over 40,000 people attend the awards in Amsterdam, while over 7 million access the live video streams, and the #Top100DJs is a No.1 global trending topic.

Also held annually, DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs Poll 2016 powered by Miller Genuine Draft is the definitive list of the best clubs on earth – from small intimate venues to huge, large-scale temples to electronic music. Over 450,000 votes were counted this year, and there was a new winner, Space Ibiza. The results were unveiled via a social media countdown on DJ Mag’s Twitter and Facebook.

The DJ Mag Tech Awards is the benchmark guide to the best DJ and production technology, as voted for by DJ Mag readers worldwide. The annual poll is run through a Facebook voting system and announced in DJ Mag’s Tech special each September. The 2015 edition attracted over 50,000 votes.

QUOTES ON DJ MAG’S 25TH ANNIVERSARY

CARL COX
“DJ Mag has followed the scene completely, they’ve been there through it all. The mad thing is in the beginning the magazine was just about DJ gear, what DJs did for day jobs, but then the rave scene happened and that's when DJ Mag happened, as there was more to talk about. The scene is still going strong, and DJ Mag are still here. It’s a bible for DJs, especially with the Top 100, and it’s stood the test of time.”

SASHA
“It’s important it is still here. I still use it as a resource for finding out about music, and whatever people say about the Top 100 it is a big yearly event and getting the top spot was a great moment in my career — something I still cherish, actually.”

FATBOY SLIM
“Pre-internet, DJ Mag was at the heart of all communication about the scene. Aside from two hours of Jeff Young or Pete Tong on a Friday night on Radio 1 there was no way of finding out about new tunes, fashions or DJs except by word of mouth — or pirate radio if you lived in London. People like me would read it cover to cover religiously to keep abreast. Over the years it has been the barometer of what was going on and helped shape and build the industry.”

MAYA JANE COLES
“DJ Mag has been important in bringing electronic music and DJing to a wider audience; I’ve personally been very blessed and humbled with support from covers to awards, which have definitely played a part in my journey.”

ANDY C
“I’ve watched DJ Mag reach new heights over the years when many have faltered, and 25 years is a great achievement. My best memory is being on the cover, it was a great moment for me and for drum & bass.”

LIAM HOWLETT, THE PRODIGY
“You guys have been there from the start, supporting us through all our changes.”

GOLDIE
“We need reporters for the timeline of this thing and more importantly we need entry points for the uninitiated. A magazine/website will often provide this and you guys have done it in style.”

JUDGE JULES
“DJ Mag has been the essential bible for DJs and dance music fanatics alike for more than a generation, and continues to dig deeply and incisively into our world.”

RONI SIZE
“For as long as I've been a music lover, DJ, producer and label owner, I've always relied on the most genuine of feedback. DJ Magazine has always championed modern day dance music and translated what fellow music lovers and DJs, producers wanted to hear, say and read. JACKMASTER
“DJ Mag has been a regular part of my life since I was a kid, and it’s been an honour to have been featured so many times in its pages — and even won a couple of awards from them. Thanks for all the support over the years, and apologies for the terrible acceptance speeches at your awards ceremonies!”

Greek Belgian brothers Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have sealed their position as the kings of club land being crowned the new World No.1 DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll and made history as the first duo to ever win the much coveted award. Voted for by millions of fans from more than 170 countries around the world, this historic occasion sees the Smash The House label bosses topple two-time winner Hardwell to secure their position in the history books of the world renowned Top 100 DJs Poll.

Receiving the awards for ‘No.1 DJ’ and ‘highest duo’ in the poll in front of a sold-out crowd at the famed Amsterdam Arena venue for the official DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll Awards party, the brothers delivered one of their electrifying live performances and further solidified once again the notoriety that follows each of their shows. Commenting on the award, Dimitri and Mike said: “Thank you so much! Since day one we’ve put every bit of energy and time we can into our music and our shows in order to give the fans the greatest experience any DJ could offer. So it’s such an incredible honor to receive this award knowing it’s from the guys that matter most to us. We love you guys.”

In what has been undoubtedly their biggest 12 months to date the anointed ‘Kings of Tomorrowland’ have become leading lights in the new wave of international dance music currently taking the planet by storm. A statement that has been backed up again and again since the pair jumped from #6 to claim the #2 spot in the 2014 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll. During the past year their dominance in the festival scene has been unrivalled, as the brothers have set about scorching every major arena from EDC Las Vegas to Miami’s Ultra Music Festival and Creamfields to Mysteryland. Whilst their presence across the arena circuit is something to behold and testament to this is the ferocious demand for their next run of ‘Bringing The Madness 3.0’ shows. All 40,000 tickets for the launch show at Belgium's most legendary venue - Sportpaleis Antwerpen - sold out in under 40 minutes; a feat previously only managed by legendary names such as U2, Madonna, Beyoncé, and Michael Jackson, leading the pair to add another date due to phenomenal demand from their legions of fanatic fans. Previously their rounds of ‘Bringing The World The Madness’ shows have entranced fans from Mexico City to their home city of Antwerp - the latter proving a sell-out extravaganza that has amassed over 21 million video views on YouTube and counting.

Yet of all the events Dimitri and Mike take their act to it is with the critically acclaimed Tomorrowland that they are most closely affiliated. It is on native soil that the pair are more than just headline stars, local heroes, there at Tomorrowland, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are truly the Kings of the dancefloor. Year-on-Year their show is the go-to set of the entire festival. Fans from all around the world travel to Tomorrowland to catch the brothers deliver the biggest, most spine-tingling, jaw dropping mainstage set any DJ has ever given in front of 40,000 people in the iconic Tomorrowland valley.

This fan-fuelled passion recently spilled over into their surprise appearance at the recent Belgium v Israel Euro 2016 qualifier, where the home team secured their progress into the knockout stages of next year’s competition. The celebrations at the team’s triumph were led by Dimitri and Mike who performed a surprise DJ set in the middle of the field, joined by the national team, to 50,000 fans at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels.

And whilst their DJ sets continue to reverberate around the world, it’s their music that has poignantly left its mark with dance music fans worldwide. Their single ‘The Hum’, currently ranking in at 18 million YouTube views, The Hum’ became one of the standout hits of the summer, and delivered arguably one of dance music’s biggest short films, as Dimitri, Mike and fellow collaborator Ummet Ozcan were join by Hollywood’s famed party figure Charlie Sheen and martial arts master Jean-Claude Van Damme, to tear a mansion-sized hole through the city of Los Angeles.

Though their most recent single with Grammy award winner Ne-Yo has been the single that has truly upped the ante on their crossover status. Having spent 8 weeks at the #1 spot on the Belgian Charts, amassed views in excess of 7 million and received support across every major radio station in the world, the single has also picked up a trend as one of the most Shazamed tracks at numerous festivals that include Tomorrowland, TomorrowWorld Ultra Music Festival and Creamfields.

With their debut artist album in the making, numerous new projects and releases coming up from their hugely popular Smash The House record label, a score of upcoming tour dates to be announced that will see them roam far and wide and a new ‘Bringing The World The Madness’ world tour, the next chapter of World No.1 DJs Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s incredible journey is one that continues to soar with spellbinding momentum and surely leaves everyone asking, ‘What on earth is next for dance music’s newly crowned kings?’

The DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll powered by 7UP has a new winner(s). Greek Belgian brothers, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, the first duo to win the annual Poll, were announced at the Amsterdam Music Festival (AMF), before performing in front of tens of thousands of dance music fans.

Commenting on the award, Dimitri and Mike said: “Thank you so much! Since day one we’ve put every bit of energy and time we can into our music and our shows in order to give the fans the greatest experience any DJ could offer. So it’s such an incredible honor to receive this award knowing it’s from the guys that matter most to us.”

The pair moved from No.6 to No.2 in the 2014 DJ Mag Top 100 DJs Poll. During the past year their dominance in the festival scene has been unrivalled, playing Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas, Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, Creamfields, and Mysteryland. All 40,000 tickets for the launch of their ‘Bringing The Madness 3.0’ shows at Belgium's Sportpaleis Antwerpen sold out in under 40 minutes; a feat previously only managed by U2, Madonna, Beyoncé, and Michael Jackson. The pair has also sold out 3 forthcoming UK shows, including London’s O2 Brixton Academy.

With their debut artist album in the making, the pair’s recent hit with Ummet Ozcan, ‘The Hum’, is joined by current single, ‘Higher Place’, featuring Grammy award winner Ne-Yo, the track that’s further shown their crossover status. It spent 6 weeks at the No.1 spot in the Belgian Charts, amassed views in excess of 7 million, and was one of the most worldwide Shazamed tracks at this year’s festivals.

For the third consecutive year, the Top 100 DJs Poll Awards powered by 7UP was held at the two-day Amsterdam Music Festival (AMF); returning for the second time to Amsterdam ArenA, the stadium for Ajax football club.

The Poll’s headline sponsor for 2015 is 7UP, who presented the Next UP Award powered by 7UP, awarded to this year’s highest new entry - at No.23 - KSHMR (pronounced 'Kashmir'), the Californian producer previously part of hip-hop act the Cataracs. This year’s Poll welcomes 21 new entries, 3 re-entries, and 7 non-movers. Oliver Heldens is the Highest House DJ, up 22 places. Diplo moves into the Top 20, and also places for his Jack U project (with Skrillex).

KSHMR is named in partial homage to his Indian heritage, but somebody who is really opening up the Asian sub-continent is DJ Chetas from Mumbai, India. Mixing up Bollywood sounds with EDM, with nearly a million Facebook likes, he’s helping to open up this new market to the global dance scene.

Nearly 30% of the DJs in the Top 100 DJs Poll – 29, to be exact – are from Holland. The US isn't too far behind, with a smattering also from Germany, Belgium, Sweden, France, Italy, and the UK. In addition, there are DJs from Russia, Australia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Central America, Malta, Slovenia, Israel, Portugal, Spain, India, Poland, Brazil, Egypt, Moldova and Canada.

Despite having no entrants in the Top 100 DJs Poll last year, drum & bass now has two — Andy C and Netsky. In fact, non-EDM DJs are having something of a revival in the Poll, perhaps reflecting that dance music fans from other styles are re-engaging with the Top 100. Disclosure is one of the highest new entries, while techno maestro Richie Hawtin is up 39 places to No.51.  Carl Cox holds steady, Umek is up 5 and Flux Pavilion — who produced a humorous campaigning video this year — is a new entry at No.86.

The list of names outside the Top 100, makes for interesting reading too. Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex, Marco Carola, Sasha, Paul Kalkbrenner, Loco Dice, Flosstradamus and Fatboy Slim are all in the next 50 – despite not campaigning for votes whatsoever.
