SUMMARY REVIEW
Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance Anthems EP emerges as a masterfully curated journey through the history and evolution of ASOT’s defining moments, reimagined with impeccable modern production. The opening track, “I Live For That Energy (ASOT 800 Anthem) – Dan Harrison Remix” at 145 BPM, immediately envelops the listener in a euphoric rush. Harrison delivers a flawlessly engineered soundscape where the melodic hooks and harmonics soar with crystalline clarity, and the arrangement maintains an immaculate energy flow. Every element of the mixdown feels purpose-built for festival stages, from the tight low-end to the immersive spatial effects that give the track a massive, three-dimensional presence. The build dynamics and transitions are executed with dramatic precision, ensuring maximum crowd reaction potential and seamless loop points for DJs. Its emotional resonance echoes ASOT’s legacy, while the production quality secures its spot as a timeless anthem with high replay value and algorithmic streaming appeal.
Transitioning into “Status Excessu D (ASOT 500 Anthem) – Bouras Remix” at 147 BPM, Gaia’s iconic progressive trance essence is reborn with a thunderous, high-octane edge. Bouras amplifies the track’s atmospheric immersion through intricate layering and spatial design, creating a cathedral of sound that engulfs the listener. The sonic engineering is pristine, with tight control over the high-speed percussive elements and a bassline that drives the momentum without overwhelming the melodic narrative. The track’s energy arc is masterfully handled, ensuring a steady emotional climb that culminates in a euphoric peak perfect for both festival drops and club mainroom moments. Its cross-platform playlist fit and Shazam-friendly melodic motifs make it a true centerpiece for modern trance sets.
The ReOrder pres. Crowd+Ctrl remix of “Let The Music Guide You (ASOT 950 Anthem)” at 132 BPM takes a more measured approach, showcasing a deep understanding of trance storytelling. The production thrives on its clean mixdown, where every element—from subtle vocal chops to atmospheric pads—breathes within the stereo field. The arrangement gradually unfolds, building tension with carefully engineered risers and lush harmonic layers. The emotional impact is profound, especially in the breakdowns, where the track’s melodic core becomes a guiding light for the listener. Its intro and outro are mix-friendly, and the energy flow supports both extended club sets and curated streaming playlists, highlighting its versatility.
The Andrew Rayel pres. EXTASIA remix of “Destination (ASOT 2024 Anthem)” at 138 BPM embodies the peak-time euphoria that defines the ASOT experience. Rayel injects orchestral flourishes and cinematic layers into the original collaborative anthem by Rank 1, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, and Ruben De Ronde. The spatial design and use of effects generate a festival-sized atmosphere, while the arrangement maintains relentless momentum. The track’s hook is instantly recognizable, ensuring Shazamability and viral potential for short-form edits, while its precision in mastering grants it both club and streaming dominance. The energy progression is relentless, carrying the crowd into a hands-in-the-air climax.
The Goom Gum Extended Remix of “The Expedition (ASOT 600 Anthem)” at 129 BPM ventures into deeper, progressive territory, utilizing a hypnotic groove and surgical production. The mixdown perfectly balances the rumbling low-end with bright, melodic accents that shimmer in the stereo field. Its arrangement gradually layers tension and release, crafting an immersive journey that captivates listeners both on the dancefloor and in streaming environments. The track’s subtle cinematic touches and extended DJ-friendly outro enhance its loop potential and set versatility, making it a secret weapon for both peak-hour and after-hours sets.
Finally, the Matt Fax remix of “Lifting You Higher (ASOT 900 Anthem)” at 126 BPM closes the EP with emotional depth and refined elegance. Fax leans into melodic introspection, with harmonics that glide effortlessly across a polished sonic landscape. The track’s engineering highlights its atmospheric qualities, where every reverb tail and delayed pluck contributes to a sense of infinite expansion. The emotional resonance is undeniable, delivering a goosebump-inducing breakdown that blossoms into a warm, uplifting climax. Its intro/outro structure and smooth energy curve make it a versatile addition to both live sets and curated playlists, while its catchiness guarantees strong replay value.
Across all six tracks, the EP achieves a rare balance of nostalgia and innovation, with each remix honoring its source material while elevating it through top-tier production techniques. From flawless mixdowns and immersive spatial design to energy arcs that maintain momentum in any setting, this A State of Trance Anthems EP is a pure gold showcase of trance artistry and dancefloor power.

Driftmoon launch Sonnux Music with new single High Wall
‘High Wall’ unlocks the door to Driftmoon’s Sōnnux Music – the new recordings home that Juraj Klička, and Miikka Leinonen have built themselves.

Following the duo’s reunification in ‘23, when Miikka rejoined as a fulltime member, the pair have been on the march, not least with December’s extraordinary concept album, ‘Moonstruck’. Now, with Sōnnux, the pair add another new, and every-bit-as-vital element to the band’s ID.

Talking about the motivations behind Sōnnux’s creation and launch, Juraj and Miikka commented: “With this label, we want to create a space where creativity comes first and foremost. A place for music with a depth of character and a sense of sonic adventure — exactly the qualities we feel, have defined Driftmoon up unto this point.”

Lyrically, ‘High Wall’ is a rich, theatrical chronicle for our times, alternating leitmotifs of division and human connection, while using its titular “high wall” as a metaphor for the fortifications we try to build around ourselves and the ones closest to us.

Around its towering song, Juraj and Miikka pack a production powder-keg of curling 303, pulsating sub-melodies, masterful symphonies, orchestral majesty, gated synth elevation, and vast cinematic sweeps, all combining to give its operatic vocal and choral chants the grand scale they command.

Sōnnux Music begins its quest from today. Find ‘High Wall’ wherever the finest music is streamed and sold.

The first breakdown is long and cinematic, a moment where her voice floats above delicate arpeggios and reverberant textures, inviting the audience into a space of reflection before the melody swells into a euphoric main drop that releases all the built-up tension in a rush of elation. From the opening moments, the track establishes a solid peak-time presence with its flawless fusion of melodic hooks and harmonic layers. The harmonic progression is compelling and emotionally resonant, driven by interweaving arpeggios and lush chord pads that create a euphoric, yet melancholic atmosphere perfectly suited to Presta’s signature vocal delivery. The top-line melody lingers in the mind, lending the track exceptional replay value and immediate recognition potential for listeners and DJs alike.
From a production standpoint, the sonic engineering and overall mixdown are exemplary. Pienaar achieves a pristine balance between the thunderous low-end and crystalline highs, with each frequency band cleanly articulated. The kick and offbeat basslines are tightly locked, ensuring a driving, propulsive energy that translates effortlessly to large sound systems.
