Having stopped to smell the roses for a few cycles, Roger Shah’s hallmark music compilation series returns to streams, stores and shelves in 2026. Onboard, naturally, is its usual, impeccable prog/trance/house blend of melodic-tropics, harmonic sonics, castaway chords, beachfront character and seaside atmosphere. Ready to do it to the summer, before the summer does it to us, here comes ‘Magic Island – Music For Balearic People 13’ !!
As is his way, Roger Shah’s again pursued a one-hundred-percent exclusive material mandate for his latest ‘M.I.’ excursion. To that end, he’s reunited his singing, songwriting and composing family of ‘Balearic People’ for lucky no.13. Those returning from the last edition alone include Pierre Pienaar, Rafael Osmo, Yelow, Ditoma, Clarks, Aytaro, Spy and, naturally enough, Roger’s Sunlounger alias - all contributing to its compound hybrid makeup.
Adding to that family are actual blood-tied Shahs. Three years further on, Roger’s son Noah Shah has taken on an expanded role in this generational affair, contributing not only a clutch of his own tracks, but also stepping into a curatorial A and R role.
Roger goes on to explain. “While I was spending a lot of time working on the uplifting trance material for mix 2, Noah did a fantastic job on the A and R side, uncovering some amazing tracks and exciting new talent for the opening half. The mix also shines a spotlight on many releases from our Magic Island Deep label, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to bring all these elements together and craft another summer-inspired compilation.”
‘13’ opens in ‘Magic Island’s time-honoured daybreak light—fresh and expansive and melodic, though thoroughly unhurried in its telling. Early cuts such as 'Vanuatu' from Dutch producer Clarks, Rafael Osmo’s spellbinding 'Over Time You Have Become', and 'Your Heart Knows' from Amir Telem establish a heat-hazed outline to its lower-tempo progressivism. That vibe of earlier-morning introspection is further shaped by SidekoDJ’s 'I'm Lost in Love' and 'Lose Your Mind' from Ben Beckman. Those in turn open the door for Noah’s more pronounced stance on 'Your Call' and 'Feel Alright' (alongside NØSH), both of which transmit a clearer, clubbier, more front-footed direction for the mix.
Led by a quad threat of Sunlounger, MOKX, SaedYm and 88Birds, with 'Less Hate More Love', the compilation enters more heart-on-sleeve territory, before progressing further into the shadowlands of Ditoma’s 'Darkest Desires' and 'Destino' from Icotenai Project. As its journey develops, it opens up to later-stage highlights such as Katoff’s 'Burning Shadows', 'Beyond Your Smile' from Andy Woldman, Roger-M’s emphatic 'Meant To Be', and TRIP RGAZZI’s 'Leave It All Behind'.
If its first half charts dawn-through-daytime, Disc 2 burns with the full blaze of a Magic Island night. Higher in intensity, broader in stylistic scope, and with its gaze firmly locked on the heavens, it opens with Roger Shah, Kristina Sky and Evan Henzi’s 'Memories Of Space'. That immediately brings a commanding vocal presence to the mix, which is added to by the crystalline drive of Spy’s 'Eikon'. The pulse climbs further through Ambedoverse’s 'Chasing Grays' (in Roger Shah Uplifting Mix form), while Roger duels (and duals!) with Edwin ‘Yelow’ Tsui on the back-to-back 'A Better Place' and 'Serendipity'.
At Mix 2’s midpoint, Roger broadens the palette further with selections including Yodis’s 'Le Vanda' and Eric de la Vega and Alaera’s 'Cuando El Amor Acaba'. Together they provide the perfect launch point for 'Enchanted Dreams', which sees Roger joining forces with FSOE luminaries Omar Sherif and Philippe El Sisi. Mix 2 closes in the same formation as it began, as 'Hear Me Calling' sees Roger reunite with Kristina Sky and Evan Henzi for the album’s event-horizon finale.
"Summer ain’t been quite the same without a trip to the ‘Magic Island’! Boarding recommences NOW’.

LAWTON and Deckers release Los Retratos, a Balearic trance track built around euphoric melodies and driving energy. Already supported by KI/KI, the track blends emotional depth with a strong club-focused sound.
London-born, Amsterdam-based artist LAWTON continues to gain momentum as part of a new wave shaping modern trance and techno. With backing from names like VTSS, Funk Tribu and Pegassi, Los Retratos reflects his rising presence and connection to today’s club scene.
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]LAWTON & Deckers’ “Los Retratos” emerges as a masterful example of contemporary Balearic trance, delivering an impeccable 146 BPM journey that captivates both the dance floor and the listener’s emotional core. From the very first bar, the track’s rhythm and groove lock the listener into a hypnotic pulse, where the bouncy kick and old school bassline create a dynamic drive that is as technically precise as it is instinctively danceable. The melodic hooks and harmonic layers, led by the bright Balearic guitar riff interlaced with airy pads, infuse the piece with a sense of openness and summer euphoria, while playful distorted vocal samples add a human texture that enhances immersion and emotional resonance without overcomplicating the sonic field. The production techniques shine in the seamless transitions and fluid build-ups, which are carefully timed to maintain energy flow and momentum across the track’s six-minute span. Each drop is engineered with precise spatial design, utilizing reverb and delay to sculpt a three-dimensional soundscape that envelops the listener in a festival-ready atmosphere. The dynamic range and loudness balance reflect professional-level mixing and mastering, achieving clarity without harshness, and making “Los Retratos” both punchy in a club setting and satisfying in headphone listening. Its originality of arrangement and careful storytelling are evident as LAWTON & Deckers use gradual layering and textural shifts to guide the listener on an audible journey, demonstrating both creativity and a strong artistic identity. Scientifically, music of this tempo and structure is shown to have measurable positive effects on mental health and wellness. High-BPM trance with euphoric harmonic progressions can stimulate endorphin release and support the regulation of stress levels, as observed in studies on music therapy and rhythmic entrainment (Chanda & Levitin, 2013). The repetitive yet evolving motifs in “Los Retratos” align well with findings that emphasize the benefits of predictable rhythmic patterns in enhancing cognitive focus and reducing anxiety. Additionally, the track’s driving momentum and steady energy flow make it highly effective for fitness and wellness classes, where consistent BPM supports synchronized movement and cardiovascular engagement, as supported by research on exercise and music synchronization (Terry et al., 2020). The immersive and uplifting qualities of “Los Retratos” create an environment that can elevate mood and foster a sense of collective joy, reinforcing its suitability for both club and wellbeing contexts. The track’s strong club and festival suitability is amplified by its clean intro and outro structures that make cueing and looping effortless for DJs, while its BPM consistency and dynamic energy ensure smooth set flow and predictable crowd reaction. “Los Retratos” achieves a rare cohesion between technical proficiency and emotional storytelling, offering both peak-time impact and lasting replay value. It stands as a testament to LAWTON & Deckers’ growing presence in the global trance and techno scene, combining cutting-edge production with human-centric, uplifting artistry. #PureGold Loveit [/content]

Dimitris Kechagias Review: [review top="1"] [item value="10"]Sunlounger, Zara Taylor, Shugz & CIElll - Lost [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]The rework of “Lost” by Sunlounger, Zara Taylor, Shugz, and CIElll is an exemplary production that perfectly balances modern trance intensity with the timeless emotional resonance of the original track. From the opening bars, the rhythm, groove, and drive immediately engage the listener, propelled by a precise 142 BPM framework that blends balearic trance warmth with neo-rave energy. The kick and percussion layers are tightly mixed, creating a powerful yet clean low-end drive that allows the track to sit naturally in both club and festival environments. The groove evolves dynamically with subtle hi-hat changes and percussive fills, maintaining an unrelenting forward momentum that DJs will find reliable for seamless BPM syncing and cue-point looping. The melodic hooks and harmonic layers are crafted with meticulous care. Zara Taylor’s haunting vocal lines are interwoven with lush pads and sparkling arpeggios, creating a rich harmonic texture that feels both nostalgic and refreshing. The use of harmonic layering ensures that each drop and build-up arrives with intensified emotional impact, a testament to the precision in transitions and arrangement. Clever use of filtering and reverb during the build-ups enhances the tension, while the drops release energy in a way that maintains peak-time euphoria without over-saturating the mix. Production quality is particularly noteworthy. The sound design demonstrates a modern polish, with a balanced dynamic range and loudness that competes in contemporary festival environments without succumbing to over-compression. Spatial design techniques, including stereo imaging and careful panning of FX elements, contribute to the track’s immersive atmosphere, giving it a three-dimensional feel that envelops the listener. Each element, from the bassline to the layered synths, maintains clarity, reflecting a high degree of professional mixing and mastering. Creatively, the track retains the original’s artistic identity while introducing new energy and structural originality. The arrangement flows like a journey, with moments of introspection in the breaks and surges of adrenaline in the drops, achieving cohesion and storytelling that resonate deeply with audiences. Vocally, the performance shines. Zara Taylor’s delivery conveys vulnerability and emotional weight, synergizing with the instrumental arrangement in a way that enhances lyrical impact and creates lasting emotional resonance. From a human wellness perspective, “Lost” holds particular value in fitness, mental health, and group exercise contexts. Scientific studies, such as those by Karageorghis & Priest (2012) on music and exercise psychology, indicate that high-tempo, emotionally engaging tracks enhance endurance and reduce perceived effort during workouts. Similarly, research by Thoma et al. (2013) supports that emotionally resonant music can lower stress and improve mood regulation. This track’s combination of euphoric energy and emotional depth aligns with these findings, making it an ideal candidate for high-intensity interval training, cycling classes, or meditative dance sessions. Overall, “Lost” is not only a technical triumph across all production and compositional criteria but also an impactful musical experience with tangible benefits for emotional well-being and physical performance.
