Amsterdam based Cubicolor have established themselves as one of house music’s most exciting new names, with early singles “Next Planet” and “Got This Feeling” picking up support from the underground all the way up to BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong.
Their first release of 2015, the “Magnum EP” sees them develop their warm, indie-leaning melodic sound with three beautiful cuts first heard in their recent Anjunadeep Edition mix. Title track “Magnum” is a luscious rolling juggernaut, driven by head-in-the-clouds melodies and anthemic, glowing chords.
“Moments” shows off Cubicolor’s moodier side, weaving eerie melodies around a techy groove. Huge bass notes combine with snare drum blasts before an epic heads-down, hands-up breakdown paves the way for dancefloor euphoria.
Slow-burning third track “All Zero” drops the tempo, as chugging percussion, arpeggiated keys and distorted vocal samples combine in ethereal fashion. Beautiful haunting strings add an elegiac touch as Cubicolor close the latest addition to their already impressive catalogue.
Dimitri Kechagias review: I must confess that I'm big fan of Cubicolor and their track Got This Feeling was one my best deep house essentials for 2014. The first EP for the brand new shining year 2015 contains three magnificent compositions that are destined to make the difference and stand out from the crowd. First of all is the track title Magnum that is of course something very special for your ears. It starts with long intro that the hypnotic melody becomes the absolute focus point as slowly we indulge ourselves within the warm and tender soundwaves. The deep haunting basslines, the techy tribal groove, cinematic strings, airy pads and electronic melodies are merged to produce the sonic magic world that will captivate your emotions and help you to drift away to magical soundscapes. This is not conventional deep house as it has deep trance appeal as well. Moments is a another exotic sparkling track with deeper moodier basslines, human breathing samples, heavenly female voices, strange sound effects, filmic atmosphere and great synths that have an arty eclectic touch that simply blows you away. Its definitely unique, original and absolutely stand out production that shines with progressive house tendencies with djs like Jody Wisternoff supporting it. For All Zero employ tougher pounding deep basslines, metallic chunky drums while they add spoken vocal samples, melodic emotional sensitive melodies and vintage themes that carry your soul to magical spaces. Piano chords, orchestral classical music parts with great strings that add to the track its epic anthemic quality. Magnum EP is outstanding EP that words can not easily describe as music is meant to be felt not talked about! #PureGold Love it
