Your Name: Amos & Riot Night
Your location(country,city): Liverpool, United Kingdom

Dimitri: Can you mention your biggest music career achievements in 2017?
Amos & Riot Night: Without a doubt, would have to be having our single 'Parallel Worlds' played on BBC Radio 1 by Will Atkinson! It's very nice having support from many other big players in the scene, but never in a million years did we think our music would be aired on the UK's, if not the world's number one music station! Plus seeing that track being played at a lot of gigs is just simply mindblowing!
1) Best Track from other artists:
If it had to be one, it would easily be Activa - Luminosity. What a comeback and for a sound that me & Paul really missed!

Others that we've really enjoyed this year:
Sean Tyas & Darren Porter - The Potion

Mike van Fabio & Alex van ReeVe - Skyliner (Mike Sanders Remix)

DT8 Project - Destination (James Dymond Remix)

Sneijder & Nick Callaghan - Absorb

Indecent Noise - Tech Noir

2) Your top 3 2017 personal productions
Amos & Riot Night - Parallel Worlds

Amos & Riot Night feat. Dee Dee - Edge of Love

Steve Dekay + Amos & Riot Night - Onslaught

3) Best Artist (Dj & producer):
Sean Tyas by far. Such an awesome dude and every time he plays or has a new release out, you know it's gonna be a biggie! Honourable mentions must also go to Nick Callaghan, Robbie Van Doe, Akira Kayosa, Hugh Tolland and Orla Feeney! All of the listed are bloody brilliant, both in the studio and behind the decks!

4) Best Remix from other artist:
That would easily have to be Chris Porter. His remix he'd done of Tilt & Maria Nayler's classic Angry Skies is one of those we can't stop and won't stop playing! Remember him sending some early demos of this over and knew from then it would be a big of a biggie!

5) Best Remix that you have produced?
If we're talking this year, then that would be our remix on AVA White for Arman Bahrami - Nova. So much fun to work on that remix!

6) Best Remixer:
Chris Porter

7) Best New Talent (Dj or producer):
Definitely keep an eye out for Destia! Had the pleasure of meeting him at Luminosity this year and for someone who's recently broken into the Trance scene, he's certainly come through with a bang! Full fire productions and a great dude to talk to as well! Our pal Asteroid is also one who we believe is gonna make some serious waves too!

8) Best Lyrics in an Electronic Music track (it can be your production or from other artists)
"Did you ever feel the edge of love?". Taken from our single with legendary Trance vocalist Dee Dee! So much fun working on that, plus we've got another one coming up with Dee Dee too in the new year ;) Other than our own works: "I'm surrendering to the power of a brand new day". Would have to say the best vocal of this year for sure by Aly & Fila and Sue McLaren.

9) Best Vocalist/Singer featured on Electronic Music track:
There's some reeeally good ones out there, some of whom, I've become really good friends with lately! So if I had to name a few; Dee Dee (who of course we worked on with Edge of Love). Otherwise, Sue McLaren, Ana Criado, Marjan, Jess Morgan and Claire Willis.

10) Best Electronic Music Label:
Beyond Belief of course ;). Otherwise, FSOE (including all sublabels), Degenerate, Afterdark, GO Music, Titan.

11) Best Electronic Music Video:
Not really seen any this year tbf.

12) Best Online Social media for communication with your fans:
Twitter for sure. So much more direct!

13) Best Twitter or Facebook message or Instagram message you received from a fan or friend or you have read on someone else’s account:
Can't think of one specifically, but had quite a few messaging us about 'Parallel Worlds', saying it's the best thing we've done yet! Gotta really step up the game now :O

14) Best music composition software:
Both me & Paul use Cubase, although I use Ableton and Paul's just about getting into it as well ;).

15) Best Club Event or Open Air Festival:
Luminosity Beach Festival by a landslide! Both myself & Paul were in attendance at this year's festival and we had an absolute blast there!

16) Best personal Dj Gig:
At the time of writing this interview, that would be our gig for the Connect Ibiza crew playing the closing set after Andy Moor! So much fun playing that day :D

17) Best Dj set of the year from other fellow Dj:
Activa & Jon O'Bir open to close in Glasgow by a landslide. Just tune after tune! One for the history books and can't stop playing that set to this day!

18) Best country that you have played in 2017 and where did you met the best festival/event crowd:
Only played in UK and Spain this year. The gigs we played in Liverpool and Ibiza really stick out as highlights for us in our career as a duo and the crowds at all the gigs we played at were something else!

19) Best Radio show or Artist Vlog?:
Degenerate Radio

20) Best Radio station:
AfterhoursFM

21) Best Online Record shop that you purchase your music:
Beatport

22) Best Smart phone or smart phone application:
I (Dave) am an iPhone fanboy through and through (admittedly). Paul's all about Samsung himself.

23) Best new sound or sample that has been used in Electronic Music this year perhaps introduced first by you?
Erm, the lead from 'Parallel Worlds' probably, as we'd designed them ourselves :P

24) Best holiday destination for 2017 either to relax or to perform in a club or festival:
Oooh erm, I'd gone to Toronto for 3 weeks this summer and that was really cool! Met some really amazing people out over there! Plus myself & Paul had a fun time in Ibiza too :D

25) Best Movie of the year that may inspire you to compose a track:
Dunkirk. Anything Hans Zimmer has his hands on, he just adds his midas touch, especially if it's Chris Nolan directing!

26) Best online/PC/video game of the year that you have played this year?
Don't really game much tbf.

27) The saddest electronic music news you heard this year and still makes u cry:
Robert Miles' passing was absolutely tragic.

Dimitri: Finally, please tell our readers your plans with your future releases, tracks, albums, collaborations, Dj gigs.
Amos & Riot Night: Erm, some new bits solo from me (David) and a few dual singles as Amos & Riot Night. Lined up a few collabs with some awesome producers and vocalists! Can't reveal too much now, but looking forward to kick off 2018 with a bang!
Amos & Riot Night: Big thanks to Dimitri for inviting us on board for this!

Guest Reviewer Alex Wright ahead of his monthly radio show Trance Encounters that is streamed every first Friday of the month on 1mix radio  presents his top 5 anthems for April 2016. He describes in his own words why these tracks have attracted his attention as professionally educated music producer and most importantly trance fan. Enjoy reading them and put in your dairy to listen his radio show.

Ciaran McAuley - Isla [Digital Society Recordings]
This guy's been on fire as of late pushing his own trademark sound that feels organic and natural in the way that it's produced. Full of warmth and satisfying melodies, his latest track 'Isla' was recently supported on A State Of Trance radio show and came second in the Future Favourite poll (one place in front of my own track 'Galactica'). His style has everything that a proper uplifting record should have, without trying to emulate the boshiness of the new generation of uplifting with maximized energy but rather focusing on the soul of the music with beautiful chord progressions and angelic female vocal refrains. This is music for blissed out summer weather which shouldn't be too far round
the corner! (Hopefully.)

Daniel Kandi & Zack Mia - Sector 7 [Always Alive Recordings]
Coming back to the front line of his own label, Mr. Daniel Kandi has delivered another spotless production alongside the great up and coming talent Zack Mia. A nice tough groove gets things started with a classic rolling bassline to boot, and nice atmospherics swirl around in the backstage with spacious supersaws lining the sonic spectrum with anticipation of what is to come in the break. Subtle soft arps and vocal pads build up the excitement before the huge pads open and give way to a very catchy main hook line. This one shines bright as an outstanding uplifter and is bound to set a huge smile upon anybody's face, particularly on a buzzing dancefloor!

Gautum Khaw - Moonglade (Sam Laxton's Moonshine Remix) [Beyond Belief Recordings]
Another newcomer to the scene is Sam Laxton from Newcastle, previously known for making tight and impressive Dubstep and Electro House but has recently turned his hand to the sound of pure uplifting trance. After releasing a massive track called 'The Rise' on Solarstone's Pure Trance label, he has been selected for remix duties on Amos & Riot Night's very own Beyond Belief Recordings. Boasting clean drums and tight basslines in the intro, he raises the energy with a soft and subtle pluck melody and smooth pads before winding things down into a light piano melody line during the break. A great main melody shows that this guy has a great musical ear and stylistically it sits just between the area of energetic and beautiful trance which is what I love the most.

Plutian - Ashgray [Elliptical Sun Energies]
South Korean producer Plutian has been making some excellent tracks as of late and this is another one of them. Currently sitting at number 40 in Beatport's Top 100 Releases chart, 'Ashgray' features floaty underwater melodies and gorgeous airy pads which are complimented by grand string layers and a simple yet effective main pluck. Driving the track along is a crunchy saw bassline which sits nicely in the mix with the punchy groove making this an all-round winner for any uplifting trance fan.

The Ashk One - Paradise (Derek Palmer Remix) [Levitated / Silent Shore recordings]
Also receiving a surprise ASOT airplay this month was my good friend Derek Palmer, who has turned in an expertly produced remix of a lower BPM progressive trance track released on Manuel Rocca's Silent Shore Records sublabel Levitated Music. A tight groove carries this one along with dreamy melodies and breathy vocals, while floaty pads begin to surface their way into the foreground beside soft piano touches. The breakdown in this one is truly to die for, literally taking you to paradise. Pure goosebumps all over from the atmosphere created with the textures that  Derek has so maticulously crafted together, making the climax a proper hands-in-the-air, jump-up-and-down-job. Melodic, uplifting trance served just the way I like it.

Gerome Feat. Cassandra Grey - Black Bird (Vocal Mix) [Elliptical Sun Energies]

Bringing blissed-out, dreamy trance back to where it belongs at Elliptical Sun Energies is Lebanese producer / DJ Gerome along with the excellent vocalist Cassandra Grey. This one takes me back to the early Anjunabeats days circa 2004 with the old Smith & Pledger sound, mainly due to the excellent atmosphere, and the rolling basslines that percussively build the foundation of the tune amongst quite a soft yet powerful kick drum. Beautiful piano touches are sprinkled above a hypnotic arpeggio line before hitting the breakdown where the percussion fades away leaving the sound of black birds tweeting on top of gorgeous warm pads. Then Cassandra's unique and captivating vocal enters in this main mix from the package, creating the theme for the song which serves as a strong memorable hook with great shelf life in my opinion. As a lot of vocal trance can be a bit too over the top and sentimental, this track just hits the right spot for my taste. Expect more vocal work to come from Gerome in the near future!

Mike Sanders - Right Hemisphere (Extended Mix) [Always Alive Recordings]

Mike Sanders is from Spain and is on something of a roll with his productions as of late. He first caught my attention at the turn of this year with his excellent driving remix of Pearson & Hirst's Your Embrace, and with this track released on Daniel Kandi's Always Alive Recordings he further enhances the hard edge characteristic of his sound with a more thumping kick and a powerful roller of a bassline in the intro before reaching a nice melodic breakdown with a simple yet sweet pluck melody. Nice piano melodic touches bounce along the top of the main melody line as it opens up into a wider detuned saw sound, then big punchy snares build up into the climax section which is big, powerful, and graceful just like how I like my trance.

Quincy Weigert - South Eden (Extended Mix) [Lange Recordings]

Lange Recordings' output isn't usually to my taste, however this release was a pleasant surprise when listening to it and proves why you shouldn't miss out any tracks in your promo pool without listening to them properly! 'South Eden' is a great, brooding progressive trancer with a big fat bubbling   bassline that would vibrate the chest cavity pleasantly on a club system. Rolling percussion keeps this track riding along  effortlessly while mesmerizing arpeggios weave there way in to the foreground and a square lead pattern takes its place as the main melody part.As a producer, I would comment that the lead itself could sound better if it had more depth and texture to it, however this track works well as a filler track in a set with much harder and melodic stuff in my opinion, running at a modest 135BPM within the middlegrounds tempo-wise.

Additional info:

Raphael Mayers & RageVision - Night Hunters (Jak Aggas Remix) [Beyond Belief Recordings]

Soon to be released on Amos & Riot Night's Beyond Belief imprint is 'Night Hunters' by Raphael Mayers & RageVision, which boasts a brilliant main melody which has all the anthemic qualities you would want. However, Jak Aggas' mix has been chosen as my favourite, with its great drive and atmosphere in the intro, which builds tension nicely with nervous-sounding counter pluck melodies and a dark chord progression before hitting the misty breakdown. You can almost feel the murkiness in this track as if it should have been released around Halloween time! Great effort from Jak on this one, with support from big names such as Sneijder I think he will be a name to watch in the future.

Stellar Project - Sacred (Tau-Rine Remix) [Mysterious Station]

A relatively new and unknown label that has started sending me tracks, Mysterious Station actually releases some quality stuff like this one, an excellently produced thumper of a remix by Ukrainian producer Tau-Rine of Stellar Project's 'Sacred'. Starting with some excellent punchy drums, buzzing saws, and a nice dose of acid to boot, some great keys play in the break amongst uplifting pads before flipping around into a  right squelcher of a drop! Something a bit different to play towards the end of a set, I really rate this retake as it has plenty of energy and would do some serious damage on a dancefloor! Great melodic main section too when things all come together for the final climax.

Latest News about Alex Wright

Release Date (Beatport): 28th March 2016

Release Date (All stores): 11th April 2016

After making his recent ESE debut on remix duties in late 2015, UK talent and label A&R Alex Wright returns with a tech-tinged melodic production full of sophistication and brisk energy.

A raw, percussive saw bass-line sets the foundations alongside synthesized ambience and vocal pads, before a catchy arpeggiated main melody weaves its way in towards the breakdown. A unique progression is then unleashed to support an explosive main riff and excellent supplementary piano part.

Further enhancing the techy elements are hot newcomers Area51, who provide a darker remix featuring an onslaught of rolling bass-lines and pacey rhythms to complement the euphoric elements from the original.

Offering a different techier twist to today's melodic trance sound, we present 'Inbound'.

Since Alex Wright page has now reached 500 likes, here's a FREE DOWNLOAD of a mashup he made of Will Holland & Six Senses - Frantic (Sean Tyas Remix) and The Weeknd - The Hills. When he heard the breakdown of The Hills on the radio he instantly thought of this fantastic remix Sean did of this track. He thinks it deserves to be played still today and he hopes this rework allows it to be given a new lease of life. Alex says: Big thank you to everyone who has supported my work so far, there's plenty more to come!
