We're really pleased to announced the schedule and speakers for this years' Unconference. With up to four streams throughout the day, workshops, presentations and panel discussions, it's our biggest event yet! Speakers include:

The Unconference is a day of panels, workshops, presentations and networking for those working in, or aspiring to work in the music industry. It is free to attend, but you need to register through our website here. The event opens at 10am with registration at The Wardrobe Bar. We are part of Live At Leeds and Leeds International Festival and supported by Leeds Beckett University, Leeds College of Music and PRS For Music Foundation.

Unconference organisers will welcome attendees in Leeds College of Music’s Venue, followed by an Industry Keynote from Zach Fuller of MIDiA Research. Zach will discuss topics industry trends and topics such as impact of windowing and the monetisation distinction between platforms such as Spotify and YouTube.

Drew Lam from Spotify’s Artist and Management team presents this Masterclass that aims to provide all the information and tools artists and managers need to build their presence on the platform. The session will include guidance on how to build listeners and followers, product/artist tools update, how playlists work and how to measure performance via Spotify data.

This session is only available to artists and managers, and attendees need to sign-up on registration.

LEEDS INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

MUSEUM OF YOUTH CULTURE:
UNITY THROUGH SUBCULTURE
Saturday 22nd – Sunday 30th April
Leeds Dock

YOUTH CLUB presents ‘The Museum of Youth Culture: Unity through Subculture’ – a celebration of our rich tapestry of social movements, subcultures, sounds and styles that span the generations and genres of post war Britain to modern day.

Featuring photography, garments, ephemera and oral history the exhibition at Leeds Dock and at the pop-up Fashion Space - two shipping containers on Briggate - will explore the power of fashion, music and self-expression to forge a vital common thread amongst young people.

‘Unity though Subculture’ is a celebration of creative freedom and its ability to break down walls in a world of increasing unrest.

Running alongside the exhibition will be an engaging programme of events including talks by renowned youth culture photographer Gavin Watson and the cult social anthropologist Ted Polhemus – author of the style bible ‘Street Style’ – plus workshops in photography and archival skills.

THE LUMEN PRIZE EXHIBITION

Following on from the huge success of the Lumen Prize Exhibition in 2016, we are incredibly excited to be bringing this mind blowing event back to Leeds in April 2017 to showcase the best in global, award winning digital art.

The Lumen Prize Exhibition encompasses the very latest technology and methodology including 360˚projections, spherical screens, Virtual Reality, sensory interfaces, projection mapping, Augmented Reality and sound generators.

‘The Lumen Prize is the world’s pre-eminent digital art prize’ Guardian Culture blog.

Housed at various locations throughout Leeds Dock the Lumen Prize Exhibition will showcase new, award winning, immersive, interactive installations that blur the boundaries between art, technology, sound and audience participation guaranteed to blow your mind and make you think about art in a totally new way.”

THE DIGITAL ART DEBATE
At The Tetley
Friday 28th April, 19.00 - 21.00

Digital Art encompasses a wide range of disciplines from graphic art & photography to installations and large scale public art, with technology progressing rapidly the opportunities and implications for artists today are changing just as fast.

This event provides the opportunity to hear from some of the leading figures in the UK’s digital art world with a Show, Tell & Discuss format of presentations, panel discussion, Q&A and networking opportunity.

Guests will also get an exclusive walkround of the exhibition with Carla & Fabio (see below) after the debate finishes.

Expert panellists/guests this year include:

Carla Rapoport – Founder and Director of the LUMEN PRIZE

FABIO GIAMPIETRO – Winner of the 2016 Lumen Prize Gold Award.

Great innovation, disruption and creativity are the result of diversity. The Empowering Women with Tech conference will try to break down misconceptions about women in technology and encourage and empower more women to become tech creators.

Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE
Co-founder of award-winning social enterprise STEMETTES.ORG. Anne-Marie will be discussing that the future is girl-led startups; the past, present and future of our society and the role women & girls in tech are playing.

Lauren Laverne
Multi-award winning broadcaster with twenty years’ experience working in broadcasting and the music industry. Lauren will be discussing the launch of THE POOL, a website for ‘women who are too busy to browse’.

Susanna Lau
Susanna Lau, (also known as Susie Bubble) is a British fashion blogger whose blog STYLE BUBBLE has become one of the most successful and widely recognised blogs of its type since it started in 2006. She’ll be discussing the journey of how Style Bubble was created.

Emmy Lovell
Emmy is Vice President of Digital for Warner Music Group. She’ll be discussing her journey into the music industry and how digital is changing the music landscape now, and predictions for the future.

Debbie Wosskow OBE
Founder, LOVE HOME SWAP and Co-Founder and Chair of AllBright. Debbie Wosskow OBE is recognised as one of the most prominent serial entrepreneurs in the UK, known for successfully launching and scaling businesses in the areas of digital disruption, the sharing economy and female empowerment.

Natasha Sayce-Zelem
Natasha is the Head of Technology for Digital Trading at Sky, working out of Sky’s new Leeds Dock campus. She is an award-winning digital digital geek and passionate about improving diversity in the creative/tech industries. Natasha is the curator of the Technology strand at the Leeds International Festival.

Dr Sue Black OBE
Sue is an award-winning computer scientist, radical thinker, social entrepreneur and public speaker. Sue is well known for founding the high profile campaign to save Bletchley Park.

Sue is a passionate advocate for women in tech, this led to her founding BCSWOMEN, the UK’s first online network for women in tech, and #techmums, a social enterprise which empowers mums and their families through technology.

Following on from the success of last year’s Digital Festival Skill Share event we are delighted to be hosting this event once again at Dock 29.

Join us for a day of informative talks and one-on-one consultancy sessions providing invaluable business advice for your start-up, small business or project from the digital communications and creative PR and media agencies based at Leeds Dock.

SuccessFlow will be giving a talk on social media strategy at 1pm and the drop in sessions will start at 2pm and run until 5pm.

DIGITAL LADDER
Wednesday 26th April

Digital Ladder presents an opportunity to meet the companies based at Leeds Dock and find out more about pathways open to students and graduates interested in careers in digital, media and tech.

This event includes open-door office tours and presentations from current apprenticeship students and work placement graduates from the Sky Software Engineering Academy.

Neighbour tenants Epiphany, Ilk, First 10, I See PR, Success Flow and Hatch Communications will all be taking part.

THE DIGITAL DEBATE

Bringing together leading figures in the city’s digital community, The Digital Debate provides the opportunity to learn about and discuss the big digital topics of 2017, particularly those connected to Leeds.

Introductions will be followed by presentations from the panel, a discussion and Q&A and networking opportunities.

Rob Shaw, Chief Executive of NHS DIGITAL on using data to improve care and working with Leeds based companies to facilitate this extensive program.

KIDS TECH DAY

Leeds Central Library’s Digital Engagement Team will be decamping to Leeds Dock for a day of free ‘Library Lab’ creative tech workshops for 6 - 8+ year olds.

Based around the S.T.E.A.M principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics these workshops will utilise some of the most engaging, child-focused educational products on the market.

Library Lab – Drawing Hacks
Draw, paint and create an artistic piano that plays a real tune. Join us for this fun taster workshop of tinkering as we merge art, music and technology. Suitable for children aged 6+.

14.00-15.30
Library Lab – Coding in Minecraft
Make amazing things appear in Minecraft on a Raspberry Pi computer, from castles to magic bridges to retro games. You’ll learn basic coding skills using Python and no experience of Minecraft or coding is required. Suitable for children aged 8+.
