Line-up Buma ROCKS! conference completed, three showcases confirmed for FortaRock in the City Mandrake's Monster, Stream Of Passion, Mary Fields and manager Wilfried Damman.

Three stylistically very different heavy acts have been added to the FortaRock in the City line-up, the evening programme to the Buma ROCKS! conference. On Friday June 5 rock venue Doornroosje in Nijmegen will host Dutch bands Mandrake's Monster, Stream Of Passion and Mary Fields next to previously announced acts Night Fever (DE), Krokodil (GB), Scarred (LUX) and Igorrr (FR). Furthermore Buma ROCKS! announces the participation of Wilfried Damman, who will be part of the Managers Panel during the conference. Tickets for the third incarnation of Buma ROCKS! together with FortaRock in the City will cost € 45 and are for sale through www.bumarocks.nl. Tickets to just FortaRock in the City can be obtained through www.doornroosje.nl.

Buma ROCKS! and FortaRock in the City present Mandrake's Monster, Stream Of Passion and Mary Fields Mandrake's Monster is a hard rocking, hard working, QOTSA/Foo/Zep-influenced band from the town of Enschede. Bassist Sem Christoffel and drummer Mart Nijen Es payed their dues traveling around the world as members of Vandenberg’s MoonKings, but this never stopped Mandrake’s Monster in his tracks. The five-piece has been writing and touring since 2012 and recorded debut album Regrets (available online since the end of 2014) with producer Ralph Quick in his RockCity studios in Solingen. Stream Of Passion is a female-fronted metal band with prog tendencies. Four albums the group has recorded since their inception in 2005, the latest one (A War Of Our Own) being a very successful crowdfunded project, and their most adventurous to date. Since their start in 2005, Stream Of Passion has done shows throughout Europe, Canada, Russia and Israel. Mathcore-outfit Mary Fields hails from the city of Utrecht. Expect maniacal noise full of twists and turns, interchanged with relaxed jazzy bits, all played with a striking level of musicianship. With a bunch of songs recorded by Textures-producer Jochem Jacobs, Mary Fields has played the UK for the first time earlier this year.

Buma ROCKS! presents the Managers Panel: Andy Farrow, Dan Brown and Wilfried Damman
Why every band should pay for management, the secrets to a band manager's success, the ins and outs and do's and dont's of managing a rockstar... All this and more will be discussed by Englishmen Andy Farrow and Dan Brown, together with Wilfried Damman. Wilfried is managing John Coffey and Destine, and singer-songwriter Blaudzun and new folk-band Mister And Mississippi too. Hardstyle DJ/producers? Composers writing only toplines? Just as well. In 2006 he developed the Jack Daniel's Rock Nights concept, offering rock music as an all-round experience. After working at venue 013 in Tilburg for a couple of years, Wilfried decided to give it a shot with his own management agency. His point of view as a manager is strategic first, and musical second. “I don’t have a musical background", he says. "And I lack specific knowledge of many genres. So don’t ask me for the name of the producer of Bring Me The Horizon’s latest album. Being an outsider makes it easier for me to zoom in and out on what I’m doing and stay fresh on activities and goals.” The panel will be moderated by Frank Janssen (Buma/Stemra).

Keynote speaker Rob McDermott, panel 'Rock Your Style!' and Heavy Chats added to conference programme Buma ROCKS!

The international conference and showcase festival for loud music.

With keynote speaker Rob McDermott, Buma ROCKS! added an authority in artist management and talent development to its conference programme on the 30th of May - the Friday before metal festival FortaRock - in Doornroosje in Nijmegen. Today Buma ROCKS! also announces the panel 'Rock Your Style!', about image building, as well as the 'Heavy Chats', round table discussions between the performing bands and six experts from the industry.

Between 2000 and 2009, Rob McDermott was the manager of Linkin Park and besides that he has worked with dozens of world famous heavy music acts. Nowadays he focuses on talent development and he is advising a variety of artists on career choices. Also he is working on the on-line revitalization of two classic US hard rock and metal magazines. Buma Cultuur's CEO Frank Helmink, founder of Buma ROCKS!, will talk with McDermott at the opening of the conference.

There are some pretty interesting panelists joining in for Rock Your Style!, a panel about image building: Ingeborg Steenhorst, costume designer and stylist (a.o. Epica, ReVamp, Lacuna Coil and Ayreon), Bertus of Schorem, barbershop in Rotterdam, Thomas Bredahl, former guitarist for Danish rockers Volbeat, now artist manager, and Philippus Zandstra, journalist and metal aficionado with a sharp eye for trends.

Also in the afternoon: Heavy Chats. The showcase festival bands will discuss their careers so far, their possible choices and all other things imaginable with the experienced pros at the tables featuring Rob McDermott, booking agents Jörg Düsedau and Volkmar Udri, live music business all-rounder Jamie Cavanagh (Anathema), singer and songwriter Anneke van Giersbergen and marketing and new business manager Jasper Schuurmans.

Buma ROCKS! will round up the afternoon with a networking BBQ. A many-faceted selection of heavy Dutch acts will perform during the showcase festival in the evening: Herder, Purest Of Pain, Wasted Bullet, Paceshifters and Aborted. The aftershow will be played by Danish 'Depressive Nordic Metal' act Redwood Hill, who impressed during showcase festival When Copenhell Freezes Over in Copenhagen earlier this year.

The last two decades have been the most successful in history in the fight against poverty: the share of people living in extreme poverty has been cut in half worldwide, from 43% in 1990 to under 20% today.

However, it is unacceptable that more than one billion people still live in extreme poverty. Ending extreme poverty in our lifetimes is a difficult but achievable goal. Now is the time to take action!

We are behind you toward #ZeroPoverty2030

Aborted completes lineup showcase festival and first panel announced for Buma ROCKS! on Friday, May 30, 2014. Buma ROCKS is The international conference and showcase festival for loud music.

With Aborted Buma ROCKS! adds a heavyweight to its lineup. On Friday May 30th 2014, the day before metalfest FortaRock, rockvenue Doornroosje in Nijmegen serves up a steaming menu of talented heavy bands from the Netherlands: Herder, Purest Of Pain, Wasted Bullet, Paceshifters and Aborted. Afterwards Danish act Redwood Hill will keep the audience going, like they did during this year’s similar showcase festival When Copenhell Freezes Over in Copenhagen. Tickets for Buma ROCKS! showcase festival are available through www.doornroosje.nl and cost a mere € 7,50.

Aborted was founded in the mid-nineties in Flanders. By 2014, with three of its five members being Dutch, the band has become one of the major acts in death metal. They were still eager to sign up for the Buma ROCKS! showcase festival. Manager Daniel Regan states: "Aborted would like to show everyone where their solid reputation comes from. And they support the basic idea behind Buma ROCKS!, which is that metal from the Low Countries is as heavy and challenging as you can imagine." The Necrotic Manifesto, the new studio album by Aborted, is out on April 30. In 2014 the band will play Europe and beyond (including the USA, Mexico, China, Indonesia, Australia).

Buma ROCKS! is more than just showcases, though. There’s a conference programme at Doornroosje in the afternoon, which includes a keynote speech, panel discussions and round table meetings between international hotspots and the bands performing later on, as well as a networking BBQ prior to the showcase festival. This package will bring together artists, booking and management agencies, labels and fans of heavy music from both the Netherlands and abroad.

English agent Beckie Sugden, American A&R manager Monte Malone and Danish metal promoter Jeppe Nissen will participate in a panel titled Breaking The Borders of Heavy Music. Starting with the co-operation between Buma ROCKS! and Music Export Denmark, the panel conducted by music journalist and metal connoisseur Mark van Schaick will evaluate the international reach of heavy music genres and discuss how acts can actually break out of their home countries.

Further information on panels and other parts of the Buma ROCKS! programme will follow shortly at www.bumarocks.nl

The international conference and showcase festival for loud music

The second edition of Buma ROCKS!, the event that covers heavy rock music and metal in all its forms, is almost ready for take-off. On May 30 2014, the Friday before the FortaRock festival, rock club Doornroosje in Nijmegen will host a conference programme, a networking BBQ and a showcase festival during which five talented Dutch rock and metal bands are presented to bookers, agents, labels and heavy music enthusiasts from the Netherlands and beyond. The first band we are happy to announce: noiserockers Paceshifters!

Quite fresh is the partnership between Buma ROCKS! and the Danish festival Copenhell together with Music Export Denmark. One of the bands that played showcase festival When Copenhell Freezes Over on February 1st in Copenhagen will perform at Buma ROCKS! 2014: Redwood Hill, considered by the Danish press to be an extraordinary exponent of Depressive Nordic Metal. In exchange, one of the Dutch acts performing in Doornroosje on May 30 will be sent to the next edition of When Copenhell Freezes Over on behalf of Buma ROCKS!.

Frank Helmink, managing director at Buma Cultuur and initiator of Buma ROCKS! comments: "It’s great to have a band from outside the Netherlands for the first time. We’d like to expand this the next couple of years. As we have learned with other events Buma Cultuur organizes, like Amsterdam Dance Event and Eurosonic Noorderslag, it is the best way to attract international bookers and agents, thus creating more opportunities for Dutch bands who’d like to go abroad."

Says Redwood Hill singer Marco Sewohl: "We have never played in The Netherlands before. Actually we have never been outside of Denmark. So to be able to represent our band at Buma ROCKS! is very exciting. We hope to bring a unique and powerful show and hopefully enlighten a new sound from Copenhagen."

The afternoon at Buma ROCKS! 2014 will comprise a keynote speech, industry panels and round table sessions, meant to connect international hotspots and performing bands. Afterwards, in cooperation with record label Suburban, Buma ROCKS! offers a BBQ that is perfect for networking (and schmoozing...) with professionals from the heavy music scene.
