Bauder will be giving a keynote at ADE BeamLab and is joining ADE Pro's panel about Future Clubs in the Spotlight.

ADE team is delighted that Christopher Bauder is going to come and be part of ADE's BeamLab strand in 2019. BeamLab is all about the visual technologies and stage design that are an ever more important part of the dance music world – and Christopher is one of the most important artist & designer working in this space.

In the club world, his kinetic light installation for the Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas is probably his best-known work. And also SKALAR, an art installation that explores the complex impact of light and sound on human perception, created by Christopher Bauder and Kangding Ray, in collaboration with CTM Festival and Kraftwerk Berlin, recently gained a lot of attention.

Christopher has presented his work at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, The National Museum of Fine Arts in Taiwan, Museum of Design in Zurich, Transmediale Festival in Berlin, MUTEK Festival in Montreal and Mexico City and The Festival of Lights in Lyon, among many other prestigious events. His understanding of simplicity and emotional impact is absolutely vital in an age of grandiose, but empty spectacle, and is perhaps summed up the powerfully affecting LICHTGRENZE installation which Christopher created together with his brother Marc in 2014 - 8000 “Balloon Lights” over 15km across Berlin commemorated the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Christopher will be delivering a keynote within BeamLab on Wednesday, October 16th and is also joining our panel discussion “Future Clubs in the Spotlight” during ADE Pro, in which we do a little crystal ball gazing about how clubbing is likely to evolve in the coming years. As visual design is one of the prime sites of innovation in the club world, his input will be vital to this topic, and we're sure that everyone attending will find something new to learn from his insights.

The ADE Beamlab talk will take place on Wednesday evening October 16th, time to be announced. ADE Pro date and time to be announced.

About ADE:
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), which took place from 17 to 21 October 2018, brought the international dance industry together. With more than 2,600 artists performing in 200 music and entertainment venues, the full spectrum of electronic subgenres is in the spotlight. ADE is the center of the global electronic music scene, and attracts around 400,000 visitors in five days, and can rightly be called a breeding ground for cultural and technological innovation. Amsterdam Dance Event took place from 17 to 21 October 2018. Various sub-conferences are held for the industry, such as Dance & Brands, ADE Tech and ADE Green.  This is the sixth edition of ADE Green, which focuses on sustainability, social change and innovation within the music industry.

The Amsterdam Dance Event is organised by Stichting Amsterdam Dance Event, an initiative of Buma.

The second day of ADE’s conference offering will be in less than two weeks. We will be running both ADE Pro and ADE University for their respective second days, plus we also welcome back ADE Tech for the second year in a row at DeLaMar. On top of that we kick off with ADE Sound Lab at the ADE Festival Hangout.

Here are a few picks on ADE Thursday, not to be missed:

The Future of Music Instruments
It’s a brave new world for the electronic music production, full of pitfalls and possibilities, new gear, old gear, analogue, digital, modular and everything in between. Moderator Kim Bjørn and his panel of industry experts will navigate it all including covering hot topics like project workflow, UI, third-party integration, what we might expect in the near future and even what's being lined up some distance beyond that. From emerging underground artists to veteran producers, discover what you need right now to make music that moves the masses and dominates the charts.

Companies to Watch (C2W)
Following a first round held in the Paradiso in August, this second session will start with a short film of the first round pitches, followed by the best five companies from the Paradiso event attempting to prove their relevance and why they should be taken seriously.

Breaking Acts - Towards A Borderless, Global Music Market?
Now streaming is the predominant means of listening to music, the idea of national borders is increasingly irrelevant as more and more acts experience breakthroughs in countries other than their own. A breakthrough is a breakthrough, no matter where it happens, and it's what every artist wants, but how does it impact on marketing strategy? Should labels be creating borderless marketing plans? What does a borderless world mean for the ways in which labels operate and how do they form partnerships? What can the indie sector learn from the major label structure?

The Pollinating Effect of Music
In a world of political polarisation, music seems to be the only art form offering insight into other cultures, whether it’s via foreign artists or from a local act influenced by music from abroad. This phenomenon is especially relevant to the dance floor where politics don't generally matter and open-mindedness is the norm. Could music be the answer to our angry, confusing, over-heated world?

Merck Mercuriadis in Conversation with Nile Rodgers
Nile Rodgers is an exemplary guitarist, a songwriter with a very long list of global hits to his name, and a producer who has worked with Daft Punk, David Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Diana Ross and, of course, his own band Chic, along with songwriting and production partner, bassist Bernard Edwards.

As if all that were not enough, Rodgers is also a hilarious raconteur with a slew of behind-the-scenes stories, some of which he’ll be sharing with the ADE Sound Lab audience. He has used the same 1959 Fender Stratocaster since he bought it in 1973, and the guitar is estimated to have generated around $2 billion in songwriting revenues throughout his career. ADE MusicTalks has established itself as one of the most popular and inspiring events at ADE, providing a real interface between artists and fans who visit the city during ADE. During these Q&A sessions, you'll get the chance to pop the questions that other’s don’t!

That same afternoon, Rodgers will also be taking the DeLaMar stage with renowned artist manager Merck Mercuriadis for a discussion about the realities of the fruitful but often fraught relationship between managers and their artists. The duo will also be discussing their plans for Hipgnosis Songs, the strategy behind the recent acquisition of Justin Bieber's catalogue and how they intend to achieve their stated aim of taking 20% of the global publishing market.

Laidback Luke Goes Back to the Future
Laidback Luke has seen it all in terms of technology. In this session he'll be revisiting his early days as a vinyl-only DJ and then creating a timeline based around the technology that he used as it became available, recounting how it changed his performances as well as what it enabled him to do compared to previous tech and how that affected the crowd.

The Record Bag of Jayda G & Kenny Dope
Each record has a story: a rare 7-inch from that crazy thrift-store in the middle of nowhere, the first vinyl you bought or perhaps a very first vinyl release. At the "The Record Bag of" series, inspirational artists are invited to share their personal stories. No one less than Jayda G, who released her first solo EP Jaydaisms in 2015, and Kenny Dope, who is known as a living encyclopedia of beats, will get their most important, loved and played tracks out of their big, musical bag. During this panel, the two artists will talk about the meaning certain records have and about what kind of feelings they get from them. With both having a broad spectrum of musical interests, like fusions of house, hip-hop, Latin, jazz, funk & soul, reggae and last but not least electronic – it promises to get very interesting and diverse!

Team Behind Headhunterz
"The Team Behind" Series is one of ADE University’s best known and most popular panel brands, inviting the best teams behind brands, artists and festival organizations. Headhunterz was the first international hardstyle superstar. He will be bringing his team of agents and managers, plus his PR and label representatives to explain how they make his hectic schedule work while protecting him from the stresses of being a globe-trotting superstar DJ.

Network and Business Lounges
In addition to the talks and programmes, don't forget that you can learn as much about the industry – and make vital connections to boot – in the lounges of DeLaMar and the Stadsschouwburg. You'll be booking up meetings already by now with contacts from across the world – but don't forget that those chance meetings and random conversations can be absolutely vital too. Every year we hear tales of projects and friendships that have been launched off the back of random meetings, and we hope we've created an atmosphere in the Network and Business Lounges that's conducive to more than ever of these!

Unite The World With Music and Pay It Forward
Matthew Adell and Shailendra Singh will be discussing the Guestlist4Good project and how it is becoming a global movement by connecting the music industry with Singh’s goal to educate the poorest children around the world.

Keynote Interview: Paul van Dyk

ADE team is delighted to be able to welcome a fully recovered Paul van Dyk to ADE Pro. He will be giving his first public interview after sustaining serious injuries due to a 10-meter fall from the stage at the A State of Trance festival in the Netherlands in 2016. As a result of the accident, Van Dyk broke his spine in two places, sustained a traumatic brain injury and had extensive bruising, but after what he describes as a miraculous recovery, he is back on top form with new tunes and a raft of major festival appearances this summer.

Rave for a Revolution

As a starting point, this panel takes the ongoing project ‘I Dance Alone’ by Serbian/Dutch artist, curator and researcher Bogomir Doringer. It states that functions of dance can be social, ceremonial, erotic, liturgical, competitive, martial -- and to that Doringer adds: political. For instance, in countries where the social system has failed and cultural institutions are missing, clubs and festivals act as a gathering hub where a collective body can be formed. Dancefloors trigger social interactions - potentially political or even a form of activism - that could be applied in the outside world.

In this panel, we will hear fascinating stories in which music and the arts played a significant role in creating own realities. From peacefully revolting against police violence in Georgia, breaking taboos with music in Uganda, to creating a sense of freedom and healing from underground raves in Palestine. Music and culture should never be underestimated as the most important driver of positive change.

The Creative Chain Revealed
After a year of absence, ADE BeamLab is back. One of the topics takes a look in the creative department of Q-dance. Ideas and concepts are essential ingredients in any creative business, but ultimately they are not the point, because ideas are easy, it's making things real and doing it well that takes time, teamwork and huge amounts of effort, as well as patience and a deep understanding of the skill-sets and talent of the people around you. In this panel, the team from Q-dance, including a designer, a technical draftsman and a producer, will be explaining how they turn ideas into reality, outlining the steps that need to be taken to ensure they do that, and how to avoid the mistakes that can lead to the core value and relevance of an idea suddenly evaporating.

Network and Business Lounges
In addition to the talks and programmes, don't forget that you can learn as much about the industry – and make vital connections to boot – in the lounges of DeLaMar and the Stadsschouwburg. We're sure you'll be booking up meetings already with contacts from across the world – but don't forget that those chance meetings and random conversations can be absolutely vital too. Every year we hear tales of projects and friendships that have been launched off the back of random meetings, and we hope we've created an atmosphere in the Network and Business Lounges that's conducive to more than ever of these!

ADE BeamLab is back at De Brakke Grond on Wednesday, October 17, showcasing real-time visualizations, generative video installations, a cinematic experience as well as talks and Q&A's.

ADE BeamLab returns at de Brakke Grond. With its last edition back in 2016, this year's ADE BeamLab again presents an evening dedicated to visual technology and stage design. It will open its doors on Wednesday at 7.30 PM and the program starts at 8 PM.

ADE BeamLab kicks off with a demo-talk by EboSuite's Jeroen Hofs and Rob Duyser, followed by a Q&A. EboSuite is a video plugin that turns Ableton Live into an audio-visual production suite, allowing real-time visualization to enhance live performances on tour.

What is more, Q&A of the Q-Dance team in which one of their designers, a technical draftsman and a producer will be explaining how they turn ideas into reality, outlining the steps that need to be taken to ensure they succeed, and how to avoid the mistakes that can lead to the sudden evaporation of an idea.

Aside from talks, ADE BeamLab will host a live performance of Van Abbe's Weltmaschine in its program. The Weltmaschine is developed by Albert van Abbe and Andreas Nicolas Fischer and can be described as both a new audiovisual live performance and a series of video installations generating hyper-reality landscapes in sound and image.

Closing the night is the cinematic experience Monochrome. The audiovisual concept was created by Javier Bejarano and Nazare Soares for Oscar Mulero's album Perfect Peace. For this work, they have used mainly black and white footage mixed with high-quality video including material from the artists' archives. The transformation of abstract black and white film qualities are linked to the oscillation between harmony and aural dissonances of the sonic experience.
