[item value="10"]Darren Tate - In This Space EP [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Darren Tate’s In This Space EP is a masterclass in melodic and euphoric trance, showcasing the producer’s depth of skill in both composition and production. The title track, a collaboration with Susie Ledge, is a stunning example of breaks trance, blending liquid breakbeats with lush, warm strings and ethereal vocals that float effortlessly over the mix. The Deep Mix of “In This Space” takes the hypnotic qualities even further, embracing a smoother and more immersive structure ideal for late-night sessions or meditative listening. From a technical standpoint, the EP demonstrates an exceptional command of rhythm, groove, and drive. Each track maintains BPM consistency, with “Mokshe” surging at 132 BPM for a full-on energetic trance journey, and “Scare Me” offering a more progressive 128 BPM exploration, featuring whispering, hypnotic vocals and a chugging bassline. The transitions and drops are meticulously crafted; subtle use of automation, sidechaining, and reverb tails create seamless build-ups and releases that maintain the energy flow without overwhelming the listener. “Polaris,” a 132 BPM dance floor burner, channels classic trance roots with dynamic layering and robust harmonic structures, ensuring its suitability for both club and festival environments. The production quality of the EP is noteworthy for its precise sound design and spatial engineering. Stereo imaging and effects placement enhance the sense of immersion, while the dynamic range and loudness balance ensure clarity across playback systems. The basslines are punchy yet controlled, while the melodies shine in the upper spectrum without harshness. The use of subtle harmonic layering, along with creative automation of filters and delays, underscores the originality of the arrangement and keeps the tracks engaging throughout. Beyond the technical brilliance, In This Space EP has profound implications for wellness and mental health. Research in music therapy indicates that rhythmic and melodic trance music can aid in reducing stress, improving mood, and promoting a flow state conducive to mindfulness and meditation (Thoma et al., 2013). The uplifting harmonic progressions and euphoric climaxes release dopamine and endorphins, which can enhance emotional resilience and overall well-being (Zatorre & Salimpoor, 2013). Tracks like “Mokshe” and “Polaris” are effective for fitness contexts, as their BPM ranges align with optimal heart rate zones for aerobic exercise, supporting motivation and endurance (Karageorghis & Priest, 2012). For yoga, pilates, and wellness classes, the Deep Mix of “In This Space” offers a meditative, immersive experience that encourages relaxation and mental clarity. The EP’s cohesion and storytelling are further amplified by the emotional vocals of Susie Ledge and the artistic identity Darren Tate brings to each production. From the whispering intensity of “Scare Me” to the festival-ready energy of “Polaris,” the collection demonstrates high replay value and significant potential for crowd engagement. Its versatility in both personal and communal contexts underlines its relevance to DJs, fitness instructors, and wellness practitioners alike. #PureGold Love iT [/content]

Legendary trance producer Darren Tate teams up with fellow English singer/songwriter Susie Ledge on 'In This Space'.

With a legacy in dance music spanning over two decades and multiple aliases, Darren Tate is a prolific producer with an unstoppable urge to create. The British multi-instrumentalist has racked up twelve Top 40 UK singles across his established career as DT8 Project, Angelic with Judge Jules, Jurgen Vries, Orion and Citizen Caned.

In 2022, the UK Top 10 charting producer joined forces with Above & Beyond’s Jono Grant to form JODA. Released on Anjunabeats, their self-titled debut album has since seen over 10 million combined streams worldwide.

Susie Ledge has worked alongside countless staple figures in the scene, including Alex Cruz, Tritonal, Cosmic Gate, Miss Monique and most recently with Oliver Smith on 'Love Is A Feeling' which featured on his debut album.
“The story behind the song came about when I was talking with my partner Sue McLaren about how I often find it difficult to hold long conversations with her over the phone as opposed to face to face. I often find that without the usual visual queues, I find it difficult to really connect with the person I’m talking to and there feels like there’s more than just a physical distance between us.

We had discussed the feelings of disconnect in those moments and then decided to use the concept for a song! Darren’s beautiful instrumentation really brought the whole thing to life. Working with Darren is always inspiring and this track is our fourth collaboration so far. I can’t wait to work on the next idea with both Darren and Sue.” - Susie
Last year, Tate released his debut solo artist album, ‘Metamorphosis’, where he first joined forces with Susie on ‘Kaleidoscope’ and ‘Watching’. Now, Darren Tate and Susie Ledge team up for their second collaboration on their melodic and euphoric trance anthem.

Darren Tate and Susie Ledge ‘In This Space’, out now on Anjunabeats.

Through tracks like ‘Higher State’ and even more recently, ‘Never Leave U’ and ‘Homelands’, Deep State label boss Grum has been affecting a return to his musical roots of late. Following that natural progression, the DJ/producer has revisited one of the tracks that drew him into the electronic music space in the first instance. To round out a truly flaming June, the Scot has given BT’s immortal ‘Godspeed’ a dazzlingly layered and sonically rich reimagining.

Spooling up the sub-bass and breakbeats, Grum begins to tease the floor with BT’s celestially haunting, female harmonies. Through echoing melodies and coastal atmospherics, he gives his rework an aerodynamic structure — tight, pulsing, and technologically intricate, yet one that’s every bit as much emotional and yearning. The restless rhythms of his breaks play off against shimmering digital textures, as its soaring tones deliver an anthemic hail to summers past … and future.

Everyone should have a ‘first time I heard ‘Godspeed’ story. Grum would love this will be yours! Find it here, and wherever quality music is sold or streamed.

[item value="10"] BT - Godspeed (Grum Remix) [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Grum’s reimagining of BT’s timeless ‘Godspeed’ stands as a testament to both technical prowess and emotive resonance in electronic music production. Delving deep into the arrangement, Grum employs a meticulous layering approach, beginning with a robust foundation of sub-bass. This element isn’t just present to enhance low-end frequencies; it interacts dynamically with the breakbeat patterns, creating a compelling rhythmic structure that anchors the track. The breakbeats themselves are crafted with precision, featuring crisp snares, syncopated hi-hats, and subtle percussive fills that inject energy while maintaining a balanced flow. Grum’s choice to retain BT’s ethereal, female vocal harmonies adds a haunting, celestial quality. These harmonics are treated with reverb and delay effects, creating an expansive, atmospheric depth that contrasts beautifully with the track’s tighter rhythmic elements. Melodically, Grum introduces echoing synth lines that ripple across the sonic landscape, underpinned by coastal atmospherics that evoke imagery of vast, open spaces. This not only gives the track an aerodynamic structure but also adds an emotional dimension, blending technological intricacy with heartfelt yearning. The synth textures are meticulously sculpted using modulation techniques, filter sweeps, and automation that evolve throughout the track, ensuring continuous movement and interest. In terms of production values, Grum’s rework shines through its high-definition sound design. The mix is clean and spacious, with each element occupying its own frequency range, allowing clarity and punch. The dynamics are carefully controlled, with strategic use of compression to maintain energy without sacrificing the natural ebb and flow of the arrangement. The climax of the track is a masterclass in tension and release. Grum navigates the build-up with rising synth arpeggios, subtle pitch shifts, and escalating percussive intensity, culminating in a euphoric drop that feels both inevitable and exhilarating. This superb climax serves as a powerful nod to summers past and future, encapsulating the nostalgic yet forward-looking spirit of the piece. Ultimately, Grum’s rendition of ‘Godspeed’ is more than just a remix—it’s a reimagined journey through sound, showcasing his ability to blend technical sophistication with emotional storytelling. #PureGold indeed. #LoveIT [/content]

It’s a proud day when Borderline can bring a brand new Coredata track and his latest piece of art entitled Kaleidoscope Skies is here!

Originally written for a now shelved Movement 2 compilation, Kaleidoscope Skies was immediately impactful with that signature Coredata (almost Platipus-esque) sound; a mixture of 909 bassline loveliness and ethereal twinkling synths.

Helping Borderline keep that breadth of trance styles Coredata delivers again.

[item value="10"]Coredata - Kaleidoscope Skies[/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Coredata's "Kaleidoscope Skies" is a testament to his evolving artistry, showcasing a meticulous blend of technical prowess and nostalgic influences. Clocking in at 132 BPM, this trance masterpiece opens with a distinctive breakbeat intro, setting an engaging rhythmic foundation. The breakbeat is crafted using crisp, syncopated drum patterns layered with subtle hi-hat shuffles, establishing an immediate dynamic energy that contrasts beautifully with the smoother elements to follow. As the track transitions into the main body, it introduces chunky grooves underpinned by a wonky, driving bassline. This bassline employs a sawtooth wave processed through a mild distortion unit, giving it a gritty texture that complements the punchy, side-chained kicks. The percussive elements are meticulously EQ'd to occupy their own space, with sharp claps and hi-hats providing a crisp counterpoint to the deeper bass frequencies. Voice effects, treated with reverb and delay, add an ethereal quality, enhancing the track's atmospheric depth. One of the standout technical features is the dreamy, synthy plucks that evoke a sense of wistful nostalgia. These plucks are generated using a virtual analog synthesizer, modulated with LFOs to create a subtle vibrato effect, adding emotional resonance. The track pays homage to the Platipus era of UK trance from the early 2000s, evident in its melodic structure and sound design. The warm, melodic breakdown employs lush pad layers, crafted with granular synthesis techniques to give them a rich, evolving texture. This section also features a variety of sampled voices, pitch-shifted and time-stretched to create a haunting, otherworldly ambiance. Post-breakdown, "Kaleidoscope Skies" reintroduces its core motif with acid-like hypnotic layers. These are achieved through the use of a resonant 303-style filter sweep, creating that signature squelchy sound synonymous with classic acid trance. The background ambience remains a consistent thread, woven with reverb-drenched synth pads and field recordings that add a natural, organic feel. The final section features a cleverly crafted breaks segment, providing a rhythmic respite that allows listeners to "float" within the track's magical soundscape. This section utilizes reverse reverb effects and gated reverb snares, enhancing the dreamlike quality. Coredata’s adept handling of production techniques not only revives the golden era of trance but also injects a modern sensibility, making "Kaleidoscope Skies" a track that resonates both technically and emotionally. #PureGold Indeed. ‘Atmosphere’ and ‘mood’: in relation to Solarstone’s upcoming (May 2025) artist LP, ‘innermost’, they’re going to be two descriptives you’ll be hearing a lot of.

Overturing the album itself, opening its singles account (and indeed the first track Solarstone completed for ‘innermost’) is ‘shivelight’. With it, he affords a first look/listen at a longplayer that differs in structure, tone and feel from any that have come before it.

The single is Richard’s musical encapsulation of the shivelight effect, the one created when shafts of sunlight filter through trees, creating a dappled or shimmering result.

Shadowed by his pads and chords, it opens to deep, resonant baritone guitar strums, which callback to the hook of ‘Falling’ - Julee Cruise’s timeless Twin Peaks theme. Wistful sub-melodies hauntingly echo the call of its siren song harmonies, while breakbeats reinforce the track’s sombre etherealism. As it progresses, delicate fleeting notes break through its otherworldly shade, bringing the track an innate feeling of ‘hope being kept alive’.

Today’s the day ‘shivelight’ sees the light. You can find it through all the finest sales and streaming platforms ‘here’

[item value="10"]Solarstone - shivelight [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Richard’s latest single, "Shivelight," is a masterfully crafted sonic experience that transcends mere auditory pleasure, diving deep into the technical prowess and intricate production values that define it. Drawing inspiration from the natural phenomenon of shivelight—those radiant shafts of sunlight piercing through foliage—Richard translates this visual poetry into an immersive auditory journey. The track’s foundation is built upon meticulously layered pads and lush chord progressions that create a shadowy, ambient backdrop. This sets the stage for the striking entrance of deep, resonant baritone guitar strums. The tonal quality of the guitar, rich with harmonics and subtle reverb, evokes a nostalgic callback to the iconic hook of Julee Cruise’s "Falling," yet reimagined within a modern trance framework. Sub-melodies ripple throughout the composition, crafted with precision to echo the haunting allure of siren song harmonies. These motifs weave seamlessly with ethereal vocal chops, processed with granular synthesis techniques that provide both texture and depth. The breakbeats are meticulously programmed, their crisp transients and dynamic range reinforcing the track’s somber yet luminous ethereal quality. As "Shivelight" evolves, Richard introduces fleeting melodic arpeggios that glimmer like rays of sunlight breaking through dense canopy—a nod to the track’s conceptual inspiration. The careful modulation of these notes, combined with strategic filtering and reverb automation, injects an innate feeling of hope and vitality. Clocking in at 138 BPM, this breaks-trance fusion is adorned with Balearic influences—its rhythmic structure and melodic phrasing exude a coastal, sun-drenched warmth. The production’s clarity is impeccable; each element occupies its distinct space within the stereo field, thanks to advanced mixing techniques like mid/side processing and meticulous EQ sculpting. "Shivelight" is versatile in its application—whether as an atmospheric opener, a euphoric closer, or a hypnotic centerpiece in an adventurous DJ’s trance set. Its hypnotic, moody layers and exquisite production techniques reflect Richard’s ability to blend technical excellence with emotive resonance, making it an undeniable #PureGold masterpiece. Are we looking at the final artist album from John Askew?? It is after all his first since his ‘Z List Uber Star’, which is currently closing in on its 20th anniversary. Add to that the duality of ‘A Room Full Of Pros & Cons’s title; the faintly Last Supper-ish lean of its cover, not to mention some flagrant nose-thumbing of LP conventions, and, well, the question could at least be asked.

As with so much in life though there’s more to that than meets the eye. Between John’s production schedule (breakneck), day to day roles in artist management, international touring (both as a DJ and live act), label management, event organising and his ‘open-all-hours’ industry rep, the man’s had his hands way full. Lesser wonder then that it’s taken him five years to close all the ‘P’s and curve all the ‘C’s on ‘A Room Full Of Pros & Cons’.

The title’s John’s summation of half a lifetime’s worth of observations and experiences, garnered at the business end of the electronic music industry. One that hopscotched him from England’s unchained free party scene to Ministry of Sound resident, and from being managed by the biggest agencies to, himself, managing legendary names. All the while mind you, refusing to compromise on absolutely anything … ever. That’s always going to leave a mark, all of which has been poured into this album.

In ways big and small, subtle or big-print, ‘A Room Full Of Pros & Cons’s track titles (‘Running In The Dark’, ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’, ‘Take A Breath’, ‘When Darkness Comes’, ‘I Want Your Soul’ and ‘Afterburner’ to mention a few) each speak to its theme. Many are fueled by John’s signature sound, one as dependably immediate, tenacious, and floorward-thinking as any DJ from his bloc. Key to their potency is the intuitively high-wire balancing act Askew strikes between darkness and light, the subtle and the visceral, always ensuring there’s nuance and alchemic colour (or shadow!) in every floor roar.

Others tracks project their power through alternate studio methods. ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ (featuring singer Lyonheart) is a soul searing, breakbeat scattered affair, while ‘Grave Digger’ features a cavernous feel and apocalyptic polemic (voiced by Askew), straight from the darkest ‘Cons’ corner of the ‘Room’. Regarding that “flagrant convention nose-thumbing”, ’00.00’ sees John slide some doors with the album’s originally envisioned overture. Now track 5, it forms a brilliant palate-cleanse, ahead of the transcendental ‘Take A Breath’, (a collaboration with Sikh singer, songwriter and philanthropist, Manika Kaur) and the instantly infectious hook of ‘Running In The Dark’.

Artists of John’s ilk don’t tend to have vocal muses, and it’s debatable whether Ohio-born/Nashville-based singer Shelby Merry fills that role. As you cross John’s Room’ though, vocally, lyrically and significantly she features three times, each track with its own individual tone and something-to-say tale.

So, if this does prove to be John’s last LP hurrah, what’s he leaving us with? Well at the very least, 15 brilliantly honed pieces of music, fused together to create a cohesive, journeying bravura, that’ll delight his diehards, while drawing others to the flame. Half industry cheer, half-cautionary tale, ‘A Room Full Of Pros & Cons’ arrives on physical and digital formats Sept 27. Now … don’t say you weren’t warned.  FIND HERE

01. John Askew & Shelby Merry – Wild Horse (Extended Mix)
02. John Askew & Shelby Merry - Wild Horse (Siskin Remix)

‘Wild Horse’ is John Askew’s latest collaboration with Shelby Merry and the final single to be released ahead of ‘A Room Full Of Pros And Cons’ - his hotly anticipated third longform. Also taking the role of the album’s swansong finale, comparative to anything John’s released before ‘Wild Horse’ is a markedly different animal ...

Seasoned JA watchers will immediately sense the change in gear, tone and intent: somewhat akin to an out of body experience for the English producer. ‘Wild Horse’s intense, humid atmospheres haze the studio’s windows, as its beats kick with a slower, more brooding resonance. Around them artfully drawn strings, celestially streaming fx and the most casual or breakbeat loops all raise its pressure. Think mid-nineties Massive Attack, with heavier drums and you’re not far from the mark.

Having previously cut her teeth on ‘Steady & Stronger’ and ‘When Darkness Comes’, Nashville’s Shelby Merry is already a thoroughbred Askew collaborator. ‘Wild Horse’ may be a case of ‘saving the best (or at least most intense!) till last’. From the opposing perspective she relates a tale of deception, gaslighting and mindgames, baring her soul to convey real world conversations and experiences. Contrastingly, she shares her story of ‘girl-meets-wrong-boy’, leaving it up to the audience to conclude who’s saying what - and to what end.

John deferred on the remix, passing ‘Wild Horse’s reins to an outfit eminently capable of handling complex lyrics (you could even say they’ve built a career on it!). For something as intimate as ‘Wild Horse’, progressive forms the perfect bedrock, which is exactly what Sue and Suzanne supply. Drum roll, pulsing LFO, reverb-heavy percussion, raincry harmonies and Siskin’s fluid melodies all lend Shelby’s song a curiously optimistic filter.

John’s Original ‘Wild Horse’ arrived on the 9th HERE, while Siskin’s club orientation lands one week later on Aug 16 HERE. ‘A Room Full Of Pros & Cons’ will be released 27th Sept. 2024 and you can pre-order here

[item value="10"]John Askew & Shelby Merry - Wild Horse (Original & Siskin Remix) [/item]
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]John Askew & Shelby Merry collaborate for the stunning track Wild Horse. The original is a stunning breaks anthem with dark moody atmosphere and the fantastic indie rock magical voice by Shelby. The result is a winner that will manage easily to carry your mind away and appreciate the superb story that the emotional lyrics describe with so much power, dynamism and intensity.  Siskin are the beloved female duo that always impress with her productions and their remix is coolest version that you didn't expect to get. Rather than the full on tech trance remix, Siskin add their flirting melodic progressive touch that moves in and out of trance and house with cool dark melodic techno dystopian synthy lines leading to the euphoric feeling free type of climax that floats so beautifully and encourage you to let the inhibitions and adopt your hidden free spirit. #PureGold Love IT [/content]

01. Kate Morgan - Pretty Delusions (Myon Remix)
02. Kate Morgan - Pretty Delusions (Myon Extended Remix)

With only a handful of releases to her name, (‘Pretty Delusions’ representing the second), through the left eye Kate Morgan’s a newcomer. Through the right? She’s amongst electronic music’s most prolific collaborators, having written, co-written and provided vocal aspects for some of its biggest names. Amongst them are The Chainsmokers, blackbear, Cher Lloyd, ILLENIUM, ZHU, DVBBS, Lena, and Gryffin, while she’s also scored a Dance Radio #1, with her co-write of Anabel Englund’s “Midnight Rapture”.

RIDE boss Myon sees her more through the left; an artist in her own right, at the earliest stages of her career, and with talent to burn. Having fallen for ‘Pretty Delusions’ within days of its spring release, he offered to lend it a remix-hand.

Never losing sight of “Pretty Delusions” folk-flecked, guitar-tinged hometown reflections, Myon’s given it both the canniest and most heartfelt of floor treatments. Charged by a skipping breakbeat flow, undulant bass, and big sky melodies, it sonically patches a degree of the original’s days-gone-by lament with some future-perfect feels.
Talking about the thoughts behind ‘Pretty Delusions’, Kate says: “as an artist my journey started playing local open mics and busking, and for a long time I wanted to run from that place. I suppose that represents some of my own “pretty delusions”. I always thought ‘happy’ would be another place, or level of success. As I’ve gotten older though, no matter where I go or what I do, part of me still feels like that teenager, desperate to know more of myself and the world. Stepping back into releasing my own music I wanted to touch base with that girl, and I sure am proud of this pretty place I call home.”
RIDE hits its 125th release in style, with Myon’s killer rework of ‘Pretty Delusions’. You can find it here from today …HERE

Northern Irish producer GVN releases ‘So In Love’.

In 2021 GVN, aka Gavin Brown, dropped his Anjunabeats debut ‘I Don’t’ as a serious statement of intent. First introduced to the label by anam?’s Marcus Schössow, the two would go on to collaborate on the 700th Anjunabeats release, ‘Take Me There’, which earned spins from Lane 8, Kryder, Anja Schneider, Armin van Buuren, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Tibasko and many more.

The Derry-native showed no signs of slowing down in the years that followed, serving up remixes for the likes of Lange and Chakra and attracting support from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Danny Howard.

GVN kicked off this year with his dynamic double-header ‘Thinking About You / Believer’, which earned early support from BBC Radio 1’s Jaguar and on BBC Music Introducing in Sussex & Surrey.

Expect more new music from GVN in the coming months. ‘So In Love’ is out now on Anjunabeats.
