BBC Radio 1 have officially announced today who will be covering Annie Mac’s shows when she goes on maternity leave in January 2017.

Prominent dance music advocate and host of the Saturday night Dance Anthems show, Danny Howard, will be taking over Annie’s fabled Friday night 7 - 10pm Radio 1 dance show.

Danny joined the station in April 2012, after impressing the team with his first set for them at 2011’s Radio 1 in Ibiza event - his prize for winning the station’s ‘Superstar DJ Talent Competition’.

Since then, he’s come a long way; in addition to pulling 1.8 million listeners every week with prime Saturday 4-7pm slot at Radio 1, Danny also has a weekly slot on America’s SiriusXM and his own Nothing Else Matters online mix show. His shows demonstrates his ability to curate playlists that merge everything from accessible, upbeat tracks to the more underground sounds. Meanwhile, a play on his Radio 1 show has the power to send a track straight to the top of the real time Shazam charts, as was the case with Wilkinson’s ’Sweet Lies’ last weekend.

Besides being an influential radio maker, Danny also tours internationally; recent gigs include Hideout Croatia, SW4, V Festival, Pacha Ibiza and Creamfields to name a few. As a producer Danny has recently remixed Jax Jones ‘Housework’ and ‘Break Down The Doors’ for Subliminal Records which is due for release this year.

At the beginning of this year Danny launched Nothing Else Matters Records in partnership with respected industry figurehead Nigel Harding. The label is an outlet for a wide range of music that Danny loves, from more radio friendly releases to underground club tracks. Releases so far have come from the likes of drum n bass icon Adam F, bass duo My Digital Enemy and Ibiza’s very own Mambo Brothers.

After speaking on ‘Mixmag Presents The New Breed’ IMS panel in Ibiza at the beginning of this years season alongside Kölsch, Francesca Lombardo & Danny Daze, it’s evident how far Danny has come since his first year at Radio 1.

Speaking about the takeover, Danny said: “Wow. It’s absolutely surreal to be looking after the biggest dance & electronic music radio show in the world and an honour to be sitting in Annie's seat. I've been listening to this show on Radio 1 religiously for the last ten years so I'm beyond excited to contribute to everything it stands for in breaking artists, delivering the best in new music and most of all, officially starting the weekend on BBC Radio 1. Friday nights...let's go!”

After playing in front of the Great Pyramid of Giza for their Future Sound Of Egypt 400 world tour, Aly & Fila have yet another career highlight to cross off their list. As a crown to their hard work and life-long dedication to the Trance scene, Aly & Fila are to grace BBC Radio 1 with their Essential Mix debut on Saturday, February 13th, 2016.

Aly & Fila’s Essential Mix debut also marks the return of Trance to Pete Tong’s esteemed radio show after approximately two years of absence. In the past five years, only a handful of Trance artists have been allowed to take the Essential Mix decks, with Armin van Buuren’s Essential Mix on May 25th, 2013 being one of the latest.

Aly & Fila took to social media to spread the news: “It is a great honor for us to be asked to do the Essential Mix. The Trance community spoke, BBC Radio 1 answered; be ready for February 13th.”

Aly & Fila are widely considered to be top players in Trance music. Throughout the years, the Egyptian Trance champions took their highly energetic performances to the most illustrious venues and events in the world, have churned out a legion of Trance classics, and have given the brightest of talents a chance to shine on their own imprints: Future Sound Of Egypt and Future Sound Of Egypt Excelsior.

Do YOU Remember?

Aly & Fila’s Essential Mix will be broadcast live on Saturday, February 13th from 4 AM till 6 AM (GMT). You can listen here.

First instalment of EDM History will connect the past with the present as the first feature is dedicated to Paul Oakenfold's most influential dj mix ever. His exceptional and nowadays legendary Goa Essential Mix for the biggest and most influential radio station in the world BBC Radio 1. It appeared back in 1994. This was my second year in UK and I remember listening this mix on BBC Radio 1 in my little room at the Halls of Residence of UEL in Barking, London and I must confess that I was gobsmacked. Thousands of people were definitely inspired and  felt that something new is born and is coming up. Paul Oakenfold had as a mission to introduce to a wider audience the most important underground sound at that moment that was trance of course. It took actually 6 years for this style to break into the UK Top 40 charts and many trance tracks to become pop anthems as well that I don't consider it as negative thing. It's great that this enlightening experience that is Paul Oakenfold's Goa Mix is available since last year at the BBC Radio 1 web site with additional commentary from Paul Oakenfold who explains the track selection, what he tried to achieve with his mix and how did he put it together. Two hours of your life that worth dedicating to listen, learn , enjoy and maybe cry a bit.

Paul Oakenfold is on the Mission once again as he releases his Trance Mission album and he does something really brave. Rather than remixing trance classics he decides to reintroduce them to the younger audience by recreating them with his own sound that is multifaceted. From Big Room Trance to Psy Goa trance to chill out and breaks style versions this is definitely the moment that particularly USA will learn trance even more. Paul Oakenfold as with his Goa mix was in the mission to bring trance to a wider audience with his Trance Mission album attempts to reintroduce trance to new audiences who may know only the USA EDM style.

Check this also as well including the awesome Message Mix of the ultimate trance anthem Children by Robert Miles
