Welcome back Alex, it’s been a while, but we are always excited when a new AW production drops. Alex is one of those guys whose releases are infrequent but always brilliant, with ‘Amore’ being no exception. Inspired by Steve Wonder’s ‘My Cherie Amour’ (true!) & at 130bpm with a full-bodied ‘Reese’ bassline, this gloriously thrusting & euphoric, melodic trancer is simply divine.
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Alex Wright’s track "Amore," released on the prestigious Pure Trance label, is an exemplary showcase of proglifting trance, clocking in at an energetic 130 BPM. This track is a masterclass in production techniques, reflecting Wright’s deep arsenal of influences drawn from top-tier trance artists and labels. The production process of "Amore" begins with its foundation: the bouncy, tough basslines that are meticulously side-chained to create a dynamic interplay with the pounding drums. The raw kicks have been crafted with precision, utilizing layered samples combined with processed sub-bass to achieve a punchy yet clean low-end that drives the track forward. The percussive elements are sharply defined, with high-pass filtered hi-hats and crisp snares that add rhythmic complexity without overwhelming the mix. One of the most compelling aspects of "Amore" is its melodic structure. The emotional, sun-kissed melodies are constructed using a blend of analog synth emulations and digital VST instruments. Wright employs lush pads with gradual filter sweeps to evoke vivid imagery of spring, effectively using automation to modulate the resonance and cutoff frequencies for dynamic expression. The lead synth, a signature synthy pluck, is characterized by its bright, slightly detuned oscillators and a touch of reverb and delay, creating a spacious and ethereal sound. The breakdown of "Amore" is cinematic, crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Layered atmospheric effects, including reverb-washed sweeps, subtle white noise risers, and granular soundscapes, establish an expansive auditory landscape. This section serves as a canvas for the emotionally resonant lead melody, gradually revealed through a series of filter openings and volume automation that enhance its impact. As the track builds towards its climax, Wright skillfully employs tension-building techniques such as snare rolls with increasing velocity and tempo-synced delay effects. The euphoric peak is achieved through an interplay of melodic counterpoints and harmonic layering, with additional synth layers subtly introduced to enrich the sonic texture. The use of stereo widening effects gives the climax a vast, enveloping quality, making it both danceable and emotionally stirring. "Amore" is not just a track; it’s a journey—a blend of technical prowess and emotional storytelling. With its inspiring melodies, robust production techniques, and Solarstone’s curation, it’s destined to resonate within the trance community and beyond. #PureGold #LoveIT[/content]

Mr Sosa in his track Vora delivers an excellent dark tripping out breaks track with exotic ethereal vocals, cinematic strings and rave infused synthy hooks to travel your mind and soul. Corderoy x soft centre collaborate for the melodic dreamy progressive beauty Start Line. With deep progressive house and trance infusions the track has driving hi-nrg synths underneath while on top the female vocal is emotionally loaded and retro infused in its performance. So will definitely please those who adore great vocal tracks with melancholic synths and relentless deep drive. Electropia by Alex Wright is a magnificent slice of modern tech infused trancer with dark thumping mainstage friendly basslines, tribal grooves and delicious breakdown blessed with Anjunabeats friendly melodies. Dimitri: Can you mention your biggest music career achievements in 2018?
Alex Wright: 2018 has been by far my most rewarding year yet as both a producer and DJ. Being asked to play at Luminosity Beach Festival was my biggest achievement, as well as playing my first 2.5 hour headline set for the UK Trance Society at their Aurora event in Cargo, Shoreditch. Just recently I got my track Sueño featured on Disc 1 of Pure Trance Vol. 7 mixed by Kristina Sky, and I also stepped foot on to FSOE Parallels and Clandestine this year with productions in the more melodic, progressive, and driving, techy sounds.
Dimitri: Can you rate 2018 for you as a year with 1 being very bad until 10 that is perfect year!
Alex Wright: 9 excellent year! I had more time than ever to develop my sound and try new things, giving myself the inspiration to think outside the box and push myself as an artist. I’ve had the luck of playing some excellent gigs away from my hometown and was treated professionally by these promoters, particularly at Luminosity Beach Festival which was an amazing experience and summer weekend away!
1) Best 3 Tracks from other artists in 2018, please give us a short comment for each track:
Will Atkinson - Seventh Heaven. After hearing this track being played twice at our last Cuckoo event in Nottingham where we had Dan Stone headlining, I was mesmerised by how dynamic and full of life this track is. From the tight, offbeat groove to the nostalgic, over-defined synth ostinatos in the intro section and the breathtaking, melodic breakdown, this track is it all. It’s full of pace, drive, euphoria, and musical creativity.
EverLight - Microgravity. I remember hearing about many big names playing this track at some of the best events before it’s release and when I received the promo for it, I understood why instantly because of its nailed-down, techy groove and contrasting floaty, melodic parts. It sounded huge on the sound system at Anomaly’s 2nd Birthday and I even had the privilege of being asked by Matt to remix this, which you should hear in both of our upcoming sets in the future.
Stoneface & Terminal - Berlin 2000. As soon as I heard this, I fell in love with its otherworldly breakdown and moody atmosphere. The tribal, percussive groove is bang on and the buildup is absolutely killer on a knowledgeable dancefloor. (I had the joy of finding this out when playing it in my headline set at Aurora last weekend).
2) Your 3 Best of 2018 personal productions, give us more background info about them:
Sueño[Pure Trance]: As I mentioned previously, this track was picked up by Rich and even featured on Disc 1 of Pure Trance Vol. 7. I feel extremely happy with the selection of samples I used to create the groove and mood of this piece, which felt to me like a cross somewhere between a dreamy, Latin-flavoured dancefloor journey and classic, Balearic Techno / House / Trance.
Aswan: When I found out that Monoverse was starting FSOE Parallels, I was intrigued to find out what direction this label would take sound-wise. After hearing the first few releases, I was instantly hooked by the warm, melodic, progressive sound of tracks like Pablo Artigas - Daybreak and Alan James - Empathy which reminded me of when I first discovered Anjunadeep in the late 00’s. I took inspiration from this to write Aswan, which has a catchy melody and great supporting melodies that I’m very satisfied with.
Mnemba: The reactions I’ve received to this track both online and right before my eyes at gigs has shown me how effective this is on inducing euphoria. During promo it got aired on ASOT where Armin himself described it as a “hidden gem” and other DJs such as Aly & Fila, Ferry Corsten, Kyau & Albert, and countless others played it, including Passion resident Marc West who played it to a packed main room after Paul Van Dyk’s headline set.
3) Best Artist in 2018(DJ & producer):
Alex Wright: Stoneface & Terminal because they’ve been around for decades and still do their own thing, keeping it fresh and exciting for everyone who follows them. I’m so excited to hear their album ‘Altered Floors’ properly!
4) Best Remix in 2018, please explain why you liked it so much:
Alex Wright: Lostly - Colourways (Outer Pulse Remix). I heard both mixes in the promo email which was nice as it’s not common to receive remixes together in a release package with the original on the more established labels nowadays. While the original was good, I was captivated by the bendy, electro-tinged bassline and glitchy, trippy breakdown of the remix by these geniuses from South America. Music like this really stands out to me from the more typical sound that many other people prefer.
5) Best Remix that you have produced in 2018, please tell us why you believe is your best work?
Alex Wright: Cosmaks & Armedio - Alternative Lights (Alex Wright Remix): Along with my remix of Marfen - Marbella which I also made for Midnight Aurora this year, this remix is my favourite in terms of how all of the elements fell together sound-wise when working with the MIDI parts I was given. Both are really expressive and chilled out, which will hopefully work as great opening material for a progressive set in the future.
After a huge first single on AVA White, Alex Wright returns with the gorgeous follow up "Missing Something". As heard on the Sam Laxton "Soul Contact vol. 1" compilation and doing damage all around the world in DJ sets, this powerful uplifter hits all the right notes!

Euphoric hands in the air old school classy trancer with solid pumping rough and furious basslines, metallic thumping drums, punchy kick, aggressive energetic driving arrangement and magical breakdown with melancholic piano chords, colourful rays of synthy plucks that build the tension perfectly and lead to the stunning exceptional climax that hands, minds and soul will feel uplifted to the bone. #PureGold Love IT [/content]
Your Name: Alex Wright Your location(country, city): Nottingham, United Kingdom
Can you mention your biggest music career achievements in 2017?
Alex Wright: Releasing The Vixen & The Lioness on the newly-launched FSOE Fables label is definitely one of them. Ferry Tayle claimed it was his track of the year and Dan Stone had been supporting my tracks all around the globe for some time now so I'm very grateful to have signed a track I'm very proud of to their new imprint. Another achievement was warming up for Ferry Tayle at the Trance Sanctuary & Friendz Boat After Party back in August with my good friend Jonny Royall. We managed to play plenty of our own productions to warm the crowd up, starting from his bootleg of NINA - My Mistake which has been played on Radio 1 and all over different events by Will Atkinson and progressing through slower stuff up towards tracks of mine like 'Havana' (with Allen Belg on AVA Recordings), and 'The Third Eye' (on Always Alive Recordings). The crowd really enjoyed the progression and we got things heated up nicely before the main man took over.
Can you mention your biggest personal life achievements in 2017 that make you extremely proud?
Alex Wright: I finally quit my part time job as a kitchen assistant at an old people's home which I'd worked in since my first year at university. I stayed on whilst living at home with my parents for 18 months after I graduated to focus on building the foundations of my career in music but eventually became bored of the job and needed a change. I found a full time position as an in-house AV Technician at the Emirates Stadium for Aztec Event Services and moved to London for six months which finally gave me independence again and some great experience relating to the AV industry. Unfortunately towards the end of the summer I was moved away from Arsenal to work out on Exhibitions at ExCel center which meant my working hours and commute times increased and became less consistent, and the final nail in the coffin for the job was being moved again to the company's warehouse which resulted in me having to commute a total of 4 hours each day in busy London crowds and work night shifts on a bi-monthly basis which affected my health badly and resulted in 0 hours of music production for many weeks. Since quitting the job I've managed to get my own production, mastering, and tuition business up and running, with work coming in steadily whilst exploring ways to generate more leads. My goal is to work for myself doing music production, and I'm very proud that I'm putting my hard work and experience into something that I deeply love right now.

Airlab7 - Daleko [Emergent Skies] 6/10
After recently changing team members, Emergent Skies have returned with a new release by a producer named Airlab7 called 'Daleko'. This tune plays upon an old style sliding saw bassline and lush pads. The chops are a bit rough and unflattering for me and could benefit from some extra processing and delay to butter them up a bit, but the arpeggiated melody isn't too bad and carries the climax nicely. I think it lacks a bit of something special to make it really stand out as I think a lot of these tracks have been made before without breaking much new ground, making this a slightly less strong catalog entry from the Emergent label group.
Ben Ashley - Distant Memories [Tranceform Recordings] 6/10
An unknown artist to me so far, but this track has some nice-sounding ideas despite sounding a bit rough and ready. A pretty pounding kick drum starts things off with a rather standard arpeggiated bassline, but when the rolling sub comes in there is plenty of energy and drive. A rather static sounding acid enters the picture which could benefit from a bit of ping pong delay in my opinion, but
this is built upon by a teasing and beautiful mid-range pluck. This is then backed by some smooth rhythmic chords and a musical, well thought out counter pluck melody. The progression is something
special here and proves that even with a relatively unpolished production sound, you can still create a nice feeling in a track. The breakdown sounds a little empty and unfinished but sports some nice cadences that are carried into the main section on top of that pumping beat. Not a bad effort from Ben and the Tranceform crew!
Cold Stone - Mustang [Digital Society Recordings] 7/10
A name that has given a few offerings over on DSR in the last month or so is Cold Stone. Here, his track Mustang demonstrates his clean drums and nice metallic, atmopsheric acids that let the intro roll along nicely. Slightly lacking in sub bass for my tastes but nonetheless bringing a brooding, dark atmosphere and things creep up towards the middle of the track. The lead and pads have some nice moments in the break particularly when opening in cutoff, revealing the gorgeous metallic tone and soaring reverb tail. Mustand has an honest beauty to it, despite sounding a bit stripped back and melancholic which actually suits its nature melodically. The vocal parts are a great touch too, adding to that apocolyptic, orange sunset vibe.
Honestly being quite a hit and miss label that sometimes delivers a great tune, Extrema have brought us quite a nice effort here by Exouler. Ascension plays on a major theme which is designed to lift you up and carry you with its chugging offbeat groove. Unfortunately, the way this track was made results in a lack of stereo information, particularly in the pads and lead which can really benefit from being nice and wide but the melodies created are beautiful and positive. There is a strong sidechain on the pads too which is a bit too strong in my opinion but really emphasises the pumping nature of the tune. The breakdown features some nice bass growls and distant, reverberated, distorted synths which are something a bit different before the epic lead melody comes in. This tune could be a 10/10 if it was nailed tonally and stereophonically, as the ideas are very good indeed.
Mehdi Belkadi & Zinou - The Longest Ride [Always Alive Recordings] 8/10
With Always Alive Recordings, you can nearly always guarantee a quality production with each release. This latest offering from Mehdi Belkadi & Zinou is no different with some lovely chipmunked vocals that really add that cherry on top of a bouncy, fun, vibrant bassline. The percussion surrounds your ears nicely as the pluck begin to build the theme on top of the foundation. Delicate piano sprinkles tease the main section as the chords begin to reveal themselves and things wind down towards the hands in the air breakdown. A really cool, sliding guitar comes out of nowhere as the beat disappears and briefly after, the huge, epic melody starts with a quick buildup and release. This track screams of classic 2007 - 2009 Daniel Kandi and the uplifting, peak time sound of the Above & Beyond we used to know. Top stuff!

Daniel Kandi & Dreamy - Match Made In Heaven [Always Alive Recordings]
Alex Wright Review: Bringing that classic Anjunabeats flavour back again is the Danish duo of pool champion Daniel Kandi and upcoming producer Jack Aiman Hψye aka Dreamy. Match Made In Heaven is dedicated to Jack's grandparents who are no longer with us but mean a lot to him. There is no faulting that some honest and pure emotion has been poured into this production which sports gorgeous chords and beautiful piano flickers. The main lead melody cries out with sincere, heart-felt power and all the fine details make this one cinematic and moving uplifter. Up there with the likes of Suru and Venice Beach, this is that old sound that a lot of us crave! Overall Mark:10/10
Daniel Vitellaro Feat. Tina K - All I Need (Amos & Riot Night Remix) [AVA White]
Alex Wright Review: Liverpool duo Amos & Riot Night are back with a remix on A.R.D.I's newly-launched AVA White label of Daniel Viterallo Feat. Tina K - All I Need. While the attack on the kick sounds a bit off to me, the balance of the mix is pretty nice overall. Some nice atmospheric chops made from the vocal carry the intro along before the verse starts with mid range basses and acid sounds. I'm not a huge fan of the vocal sound and processing as it's quite harsh in the upper mids however the pads that sit underneath are nice and smooth, helping build up the soundscape. When things move down into the break, the progression fits beautifully with the vocal melody which is very nice indeed. Before long an anthemic saw lead comes in underneath the chorus which is a bit tinny-sounding but does its job pretty well and the suspense created in the build up lifts the energy in fine style. I particularly like the impact when the chorus hits and I can imagine this sounding pretty strong out loud in a club environment. Great effort from the guys and I can hear their sound developing for
Alex Wright Review: A previously unheard of producer to me, Enzo's new release on Silent Shore White took my ears by surprise a fair bit when I checked out the promo that landed in my inbox. Now the overall production sound may be slightly amateurish however the ideas that sit in the middle are quite beautiful. It has a bit of a resemblance to Ciaran McAuley's tunes however if you forget this then you can get lost in the uplifting euphoria of the strings and vocal in the break. Lots of melodic content is there for your aural pleasure which helps build a satisfying and heavenly sound, and as things build up to the climax, the chords rise and lift making this quite a strong release for the label!Overall Mark:7/10
Pablo Anon & Type 41 - Tonight [Extrema Global Music]
Alex Wright Review: Over on Extrema, Paul Anon & Type 41 churn out something a bit harder and edgier with daggering basslines and a pounding kick and ride which means business. As the snare hits signalling the time to mix over and "drop the bass" if you will, the result is not disappointing as the balance is pretty on point. Some lurking detuned saws and upfront acids add drama to the tracks as things get going in the intro, and after this things break down to a no-nonsense lead pattern and frankly quite cheap-sounding strings. However, once this part is over the main lead pattern comes in which follows a fairly generic chord pattern but is quite catchy nonetheless. The main section is quite hard hitting however not really my cup of tea if I'm honest!Overall Mark:6/10
Alex Wright Review: Steve Allen is one half of the hugely successful duo Allen & Envy from Leicester, UK and as his solo career gets moving, he brings us his first original release on Enhanced sublabel Digital Society Recordings. 'Horus' features that sigature mid-range rolling bass that he has become a master of as well as some neat percussion and vocal blurs. Metallic acids paint a well-rounded picture before the marching sub line enters along with a warm, uplifting pluck which teases the main melodic theme nicely. Things build back up with a counter pluck arpeggio and some hissy pads to lift the energy up slightly. The break showcases quite a natural sounding piano ostinato and the main theme in its totality with lovely open backing saws to add size to the overall sonic picture. The climax doesn't disappoint and is quite beautiful with lots of drive and feeling. A great fit for Digital Society Recordings and a strong way to start Steve's single releases.Overall Mark:8/10

Making a big summery debut on AVA, Alex Wright and Allen Belg cruise in with Havana. Soft dancing melodies and gentle soundscapes meld perfectly with their rhythms for something that would be just perfect for the beach as well as a club setting.
