On Friday October 24th, during Amsterdam Dance Event 2025 and in honour of Amsterdam 750, Audio Obscura takes a new step in its tradition of groundbreaking shows, presenting the world premiere of PRAISE – Honey Dijon x ZO! Gospel Choir at De Nieuwe Kerk.

Pre-registration for tickets to this unique event is now open via Audio Obscura’s official pre-registration page: audio-obscura.com.

The event marks the first time in its more than 600-year history that the historic national monument will be transformed into a venue for electronic music, with Audio Obscura the only organisation trusted to undertake the task. With previous events like the now-legendary Highway Rave and its party in the bicycle tunnel under the famed Rijksmuseum, Audio Obscura has already demonstrated how electronic music can take on a new dimension in unexpected places. The choice of De Nieuew Kerk fits seamlessly into this tradition and marks another milestone in Amsterdam’s cultural tradition.

The unique location provides the perfect setting to host the world premiere of a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration between internationally acclaimed DJ Honey Dijon and the ZO! Gospel Choir, one of the Netherlands’ leading vocal ensembles. The choir is known for its energetic renditions of soul, R&B and gospel, and has previously collaborated with artists such as Diana Ross, Kamasi Washington and Gregory Porter.

Honey Dijon is considered one of the most influential voices in electronic music worldwide. Born and raised in Chicago, the birthplace of house music, she became an icon thanks to her inimitable blend of house, techno, and disco. Besides her status as a beloved DJ and producer, she is known for her outspoken engagement with fashion, art, and activism. She has performed at the world's biggest clubs and festivals, and continues to champion diversity and inclusivity within the music scene.

The evening opens with DJ Juliana X, who blends her Brazilian background and Rotterdam roots into an energetic mix of Chicago house, Detroit techno, and unexpected influences such as eurodance and acid. She is followed by Honey Dijon and the ZO! Gospel Choir, who take the audience on a captivating journey of music, choreography, and dance. Expect an hour of pure energy where gospel and electronic music amplify one another, culminating in a collective experience like no other.

The Nieuwe Kerk as the backdrop: a historic monument in the heart of Amsterdam, the Nieuwe Kerk has played a central role in the city for over six centuries. Consecrated in 1409, this national monument is known as the place where kings and queens are inaugurated and where national mourning and wedding ceremonies take place. It also serves as a cultural venue for leading exhibitions and concerts. Never before has electronic music been performed there, making this performance by Honey Dijon and the ZO! Gospel Choir not only a first for ADE but also a new chapter in the rich history of De Nieuwe Kerk.

ADE opens the week with six Opening Specials that highlight the crossover between electronic music and other art forms. These Opening Specials on ADE Wednesday are designed to explore new ideas, to bring together disciplines that don’t always meet, and to create space for experimentation and artistic growth. From orchestras reinterpreting Amapiano to an immersive rendition of ‘Canto Ostinato’ by Helena Basilova and Nick Verstand, or a dance inside the Van Gogh Museum; each event shows how sound connects to community. Together, they set the stage for five days where electronic music expands beyond the club, crossing into performance, visual culture, and interdisciplinary art.

Live performance is at the heart of ADE. These Opening Specials show how classical traditions and global club sounds meet in bold, new interpretations.

  • DBN Gogo & Metropole Orkest @ Melkweg

Metropole Orkest and Melkweg open ADE Wednesday together in true ADE tradition once again, this time joined by South African DJ and producer DBN Gogo. Known for her dynamic presence and eclectic sets, she brings a special tribute to Amapiano, the hybrid sound of deep house, jazz, kwaito, and lounge that has become one of South Africa’s most influential exports.

  • 24classics presents: Canto Ostinato by Helena Basilova x Nick Verstand @ Zuiderkerk

For two shows on ADE Wednesday only, 24classics invites pianist Helena Basilova and contemporary artist Nick Verstand to take over the iconic Zuiderkerk for a special rendition of Simeon ten Holt's iconic, hypnotic masterpiece Canto Ostinato. She will be merging solo piano with deep electronic textures that heighten its intensity and emotional power. To amplify the experience, Nick Verstand's immersive light installation reimagines the Canto Ostinato in a completely new dimension, responding in real time to every powerful nuance of the music.

The first show starts at 20:00 CET, and the second at 22:00 CET.

Immersive Arts

When music merges with digital art, the audience becomes part of the work. These Opening Specials create multisensory experiences where sound, image, and movement intertwine.

  • Dome Concerts presents: Julius Horsthuis & Suzanne Ciani @ Artis Planetarium

From ADE Wednesday to Friday, the dome of the ARTIS Planetarium becomes a 360° canvas for fractal artist Julius Horsthuis. On ADE Wednesday, as one of the Opening Specials, he joins forces with Suzanne Ciani: pioneer of electronic sound and five-time Grammy nominee. Her Buchla synthesizer performance unfolds beneath Horsthuis’ fractal worlds, setting the tone for three nights of live A/V concerts and screenings inside the Planetarium, where music and image move as one.

  • CYCLES: GiGi FM x Lumus Instruments @ Felix Meritis

‘POLYNODE: CYCLES’ is a digital media installation by Lumus Instruments. Conceived as an instrument, it explores cycles through its physical form and a dynamic system of virtual nodes. For this special live AV performance, ‘POLYNODE: CYCLES’ meets the artistry of GiGi FM. A sound artist, DJ, and trained dancer, GiGi FM creates immersive journeys where movement, storytelling, singing, poetry, and sonic textures converge. Influenced by cosmology, philosophy, and movement, her work invites audiences into sensory experiences that expand the relationship between body, sound, and space.

Visual Arts

The visual language of nightlife carries memory, identity, and cultural weight. These Opening Specials turn archives and portraits into living artworks.
  • Opening Exhibition: ClubCult
‘ClubCult’ is a project by JOHNNY BLOOD, and transforms more than 200 portraits of clubgoers, captured during the closing weekend of De School. The portraits will be turned into large-scale projections, video works, and a book launch. With music curated by De School regular Beste Hira, the exhibition captures the gestures, intimacy, and energy of Amsterdam’s underground nightlife.

Photography: Lonneke van der Palen, Barrie Hullegie, Tim Verhallen, Jorre Janssens

Video: Jelmar van Belle, Dorith Mous
  • Opening Exhibition: A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture: 1990 - 2005
With ‘A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture’, One Eye Witness, Bastiaan van Berkel, Thunderboom, and Podiumkunst.net present a digital flyer archive and book that trace the history of Dutch rave. Built from last year’s Flyer Scan Day at Sexyland and expanded with contributions from figures like Antal and Shinedoe, the archive brings decades of visual culture together. At Door Open Space, the exhibition turns this archive into a living experience. Augmented reality and large-scale projections show how rave aesthetics have shifted from warehouses to clubs, presenting rave not as nostalgia but as a cultural force shaping identity and community.
  • Club Culture
Dance culture connects people across disciplines, generations, and spaces. These Opening Specials celebrate the club as a stage for experimentation, community, and performance.

Opening Performance: The Grid: Embodied – Victor Dissel, Bram van Ravenhorst & Arno Schuitemaker @ Door Open Space

Door Open Space opens on ADE Wednesday with the Opening Special ‘The Grid: Embodied’, a new premiere by Victor Dissel and Bram van Ravenhorst, with choreography by Arno Schuitemaker. Light, sound, and dance merge in an immersive twenty-minute performance where sixteen moving light columns and a solo dancer explore the tension between human and machine. Staged at Door Open Space, the work reimagines the club experience through installation, choreography, and sound. After the premiere, ‘The Grid’ remains on view as a standalone installation, alongside the exhibitions ‘ClubCult’ and ‘A Scan Through Dutch Rave Culture.’
  • ARK x Before/After present GATE @ Van Gogh Museum
On ADE Wednesday, ADE collaborates with the Van Gogh Museum and turns the museum into a stage for a truly unique and interactive dance performance.. Collectives Alyson Sillon (Before/After) and Connor Schumacher (ARK) move with the audience in a program that places expression, connection, and community at the heart of nightlife. Performances unfold among the crowd, inviting visitors to step into dance culture as both art form and shared experience. The evening coincides with the exhibition ‘Van Gogh and the Roulins. Together Again at Last.’

With ADE now close to a month away, ADE Arts & Culture reveals a new wave of events on the meeting point of music, theatre, and movement. This next chapter brings together raw physical expression, theatrical reinventions of nightlife, and sound as a tool for both memory and transformation. From reimagined strip clubs and surreal rave musicals to walking tours and roots reggae legacies, the program invites audiences to experience electronic music culture through unexpected perspectives.

Alice in Thunderland @ Theater De Landing

Go down the rabbit hole into a surreal club night where art and nightlife collide. Curated by R3LN4CHT, 'Alice in Thunderland' blurs the lines between performance and rave. Immersive, chaotic, glamorous, and playful, it features theatre maker Stephanie Louwrier alongside guest artists for an unpredictable night of beats, characters, and encounters.

XTC: The Electronic Musical @ Desmet Studio's

Created by Vicu Bazan Szelest, this theatre-club experience tells the story of Max, an ex-clubber trying to piece his life back together after nightlife excess. A roaming camera projects the unfolding narrative across dancers, actors, and a DJ set, merging live performance with electronic music in a redemptive story of love and connection. This immersive 60-minute format in which audience members stand and move around the room debuts at ADE at Desmet Studio's.

Striptopia @ TillaTec

At TillaTec, a former technical college, stripping is reimagined as an art form. Striptopia invites audiences into a two-hour show that celebrates pole dance, drag, and performance. Built on fair and inclusive values, the project challenges social norms and reclaims the strip club as a space of artistry and celebration.

Movement as collective expression

Why Not – OFF VENUE 2025 @ De Sloot

Thu 23rd & Fri 24th - 18:00 [with dinner] or 19:30 [only tour] /21:50

The walking tour returns to Amsterdam Nieuw-West, turning the streets into a stage where everyday life becomes art. Along the route, audiences encounter performances and interventions, from provocative strip shows to reflections on humanity and ephemerality. The experience can be paired with dinner at Restaurant De Sering before the tour.

OFF VENUE Workshop: Disambiguation @ Theater Frascati

In this workshop, participants will take the atmosphere of the nightclub and translate it into movement. Through Elisa Zuppini’s ensemble, participants will be introduced to her movement practice, and learn sequences from the choreography, they will then be invited to interpret it through guided improvisations, forming co-ordinated freedom and moving in a collective unconsciousness, where ambiguity becomes a generative force.

Sound and storytelling

Hothead Radio

Hothead Radio brings a range of projects to ADE, with its centerpiece a live A/V performance at the Eye Film Museum. Archival sounds and moving images merge in an exploration of cinema’s past, present, and future. Afterwards, artists Lauren Duffus and Shawdii host a panel reflecting on their inspirations and the dialogue between sound and visuals.

Kebra Ethiopia Sound System @ Garage Noord

Originating from Kwa-Thema, South Africa, Kebra Ethiopia celebrates 20 years of roots reggae and Rastafarian culture. Known for their hand-built speaker sets, they bring a message of unity, humility, and community upliftment. At Garage Noord, they play on the Dutch Covenant Soundsystem, honoring a legacy that has carried their sound around the world.

Restrhythm @ Park Amsterdam

Third-year Music Theatre students from ArtEZ take over the skatepark at Park Amsterdam, teaming up with EDM producer POEZENKIND. Together they push boundaries, exploring movement that oscillates between rest and rave, control and release, bliss and stillness. The result is a raw performance where sound, movement, and dramatic intensity collide.

Arts & Culture continues to expand the frame of electronic music. These projects point to the many ways sound and performance can challenge conventions and open new perspectives.

The complete program will be announced in the coming weeks. Individual tickets are available through ADE’s program, and the ADE Pro Pass is available here.

ADE Arts & Culture returns for its third edition, continuing to find the artistic connections between electronic music and other art forms. For its 2023 edition, the program focuses on today's artists, the positive impact electronic music has on its creators and listeners, and broadening visitors’ horizons. Alongside the previously announced standout piece ATMEN at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, the first events include collaborations between Het HEM and Horst, Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest and Mary Lake, and De School and Boris Acket.

The 2023 edition of ADE Arts & Culture is rapidly shaping up with a wide array of cultural collaboration projects including 'New HHHorizons' by Het HEM and arts and music organisation Horst, to be showcased at Thomaskerk. At Bimhuis, a one-off synthesis awaits with the Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest and DJ Mary Lake blending techno and Arabic music. Boris Acket takes over De School with 'TIJDSDUUR', a month-long exhibition that challenges conventional notions of time, inviting musical artists Jameszoo, Helena Basilova, Spekki Webu and others to bring the works to life.

Further enriching the roster is 'Rooted in Culture' at Tolhuistuin, a deep dive into electronic music's origins intertwined with black history and the LGBTQAI+ community. 'Recharge & Revolt' at the Melkweg Expo investigates rave culture as a powerful political instrument. Stadsarchief Amsterdam’s ‘Wie Danst Is Vrij’ allows visitors to dive into Amsterdam's club culture from 1980 until now to celebrate the city's unique nightlife, and the sounds of 'River Without Banks' will resound in the Portuguese Synagogue, creating a mesmerizing two-piano concert atmosphere. Many more events will be added to the ADE Arts & Culture lineup in the lead up to the event, with details soon to be disclosed.

Het HEM x Horst: New HHHorizons

It's almost abundant to say that both cultural and arts centre Het HEM and the arts and music organisation Horst are on the forefront of connecting electronic music and other art forms. They team up to present 'New HHHorizons' at De Thomaskerk. Four new interdisciplinary live performances are the centre of the programme, each offering visitors an immersive art experience. To Dance is to be Free

Dive into Amsterdam's club culture from 1980 until now at Stadsarchief Amsterdam to celebrate the city's unique nightlife and the cultural and social value it has on its community. Expect a moving, educating, and inspiring tribute to clubs like RoXY, IT, Mazzo, Club11, Trouw, and still-existing clubs like NYX, De School, and Garage Noord, mixed with elements of emancipation, experiment, and creativity that make Amsterdam's club culture unlike any other city.

Boris Acket presents TIJDSDUUR

In this second iteration of contemporary composer and audiovisual artist Boris Acket's series 'DURATION' the artist heads to De School for a month-long takeover. This exhibition is inspired and derived from a work featured in the exhibition: 'Durée'. Acket challenges the human perception of time by ritualistic performative installations that continuously change shape during that month and move spaces. The exhibition is opened with a string of performances on ADE Wednesday, with Slagwerk Den Haag, Jameszoo, Elsemarijn Bruijs, Helena Basilova and Spekki Webu, who bring the works to life in a completely new way, together with platform Minimal Collective. The performances are free of charge to visit.

Exploration and celebration

Recharge & Revolt

Melkweg Expo showcases the group exhibition 'Recharge & Revolt', opening on ADE Wednesday. This exhibition is curated by Ukrainian guest curators Anton Shebetko and Maria Vtorushina focuses on rave culture as a powerful political instrument. After the Revolution of Dignity and this turning point in Ukrainian society, the techno and rave scenes flourished, giving rise to significant clubs and parties that have become an integral part of contemporary Ukrainian society, especially for members of the queer community. Recharge and Revolt explores and celebrates themes like queer identity, queer visibility, utopia, queer time, and the solidarity that has been fostered through raves.

24Classics presents Gay Guerilla

Gay Guerilla is a monumental and iconic piece by composer Julius Eastman. 24 Classics presents an interdisciplinary re-interpretation of this iconic piece in the form of a live ritual, together with artists Boris Acket and Christian Guerematchi. Pianists Helena Basilova and Vivienne Cheng play amidst a powerful audiovisual installation.

Harmonic Resonance

Unveil the hidden dimensions of sound at 'Harmonic Resonance', an immersive cymatics experiences at museum Embassy of the Free Mind. Derek Lomas is a professor of Positive AI at TU Delft and a passionate innovator in human-centered design. His work probes the harmony between AI and human cognition, with an emphasis on the interaction of music and the mind. He brings his unique insights into how the resonance of sound shapes our experiences and interactions to ADE Arts & Culture.

Mark to the Music

This collaboration between Museum van de Geest, Outsider Art, and Amsterdam Dance Events centres around the de-stressing and spiritual power of electronic music and sound through a guided visual meditation. This sixty-minute experience at the Museum van de Geest in Hermitage Amsterdam takes you on a trip through rare electronic music and hidden gems played by Nelly.

River Without Banks

ADE and the Jewish Cultural Quarter present River Without Banks, a composition for two pianos with Leo Svirsky and Reinier van Houdt.  After a successful sophomore edition in which electronic music and interdisciplinary art came together, ADE and International Theatre Amsterdam present the return of Arts & Culture with ATMEN, a theater production of Nicole Beutler Projects. The art installation and performance piece by Nicole Beutler is the second part of the trilogy RITUALS OF TRANSFORMATION, and invites you to step into an undiscovered piece of the future in 2200 where theatre ITA is overgrown by nature. Search for a new balance between humans, earth, animals, and technology during this immersive visual performance premiering on ADE Wednesday and Thursday, and get a glimpse of what ADE Arts & Culture has in store this year.

ATMEN (evolution is silently unfolding)

In ATMEN, Nicole Beutler welcomes you to an undiscovered piece of the future; it is 2200. A pulsating, vibrating and breathing paradise in which nature has reclaimed its place. The red plush in the theatre is now part of a living ecosystem. The ruin is overgrown with bacteria, flora, fauna and shiny fungi. Along with hybrid creatures, the audience becomes part of this ecosystem, in which the four singers of the award-winning dance opera 8: METAMORPHOSIS sing romantic songs of nature.

Run time 90 minutes
Genre dance
Language various languages

Under the moonlight, a wolf howls and two dancers meet. Together with the living space, they move to music of lost radio waves, rustling leaves and electronic music compositions by our in-house composer Gary Shepherd. These compositions are inspired by remnants of Schubert songs.

Visual artist Heleen Blanken uses three-dimensional video images to make the theatre overrun with resilient nature. Deep in these damp, vibrating, cavernous depths, at the bottom of a post-apocalyptic reality, the wild promise of an unimaginable future gradually takes shape.

The second part of the trilogy: RITUALS OF TRANSFORMATION (towards a new humanity) is an immersive theatrical experience. We travel through an experiment, a speculative fiction where we contemplate constant collective transformation in an overgrown ruin.

In the first part of the trilogy: GINKGO or: 56 million years ago there were palm trees on the North Pole, we watched the end of the man-made world, like a film without a happy ending. In ATMEN, Beutler and her team let the audience catch their breath again with a space full of life, potential and change. In the final part of the trilogy, a new balance will be found.

This trilogy creates a space where the performers and the audience reflect together on what it is to be human in this world. Theatre offers an opportunity to think critically about the future of humanity on the planet. Beutler aims to touch the audience by offering new perspectives, by breaking open existing concepts in search of new, unexpected connections, generating potential for a hopeful vision of the future.

This performance is presented as part of a collaboration between Internationaal Theater Amsterdam (ITA) and Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE).

On 21st October, Reflections will make its Amsterdam debut, hosting an intimate live music and meditation experience as part of the ADE Arts & Culture program. For this hour-long session, Reflections invited Yogi Bare founder Kat Pither to lead a unique guided meditation, accompanied by a live performance from one of Reflections’ most exciting new talents, Jessie Marcella. Performing music from her latest label release ‘Untitled’, Jessie will perform an ambient electronic set with live clarinet.“

Our two record labels, Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep were born on the dancefloor. For over 20 years these labels have taken us, our music, and our artists, to dancefloors across the world. The third Anjuna record label is our new downtempo and ambient imprint called Reflections, and we are delighted to share it with you. Reflections is born from all those moments in between the dancefloors - the mornings after, the nights apart, the journeys shared along the way. Those moments of Reflection.” - Above & Beyond

Hailing from Leeds, British composer and producer Jessie Marcella joined the Reflections family earlier this year with her EP ‘Untitled’. Classically trained on the clarinet, Jessie fuses together both live and electronic instrumentation in her work. In recent years Jessie has honed her craft. Her compositions are melancholic, deeply emotive, and entirely captivating. Ranging from atmospheric soundscape to ambient electronica, her sound has led to support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing.

  • The Golden Hour #12 w/ Portrait XO
Welcome to The Golden Hour, that moment in time when the sun passes the horizon and floods the air with a warm and soothing light. The Golden Hour marks a counterpoint in every day, providing us with new perspectives and insights. In this time and space, we connect people through a deep listening experience. Each session, we invite extraordinary artists to share the music most meaningful to them. Listening to these tracks and uncovering the stories behind them, we get a better understanding of our guest's motives and musical journey.

For this edition we have Portrait XO as our guest. She is a singer, songwriter, producer and an interactive installation artist. In her work she uses experimental approaches to writing, researching computational creativity and human-machine collaboration. An example is her co-creating of lyrics with an artificial intelligent version of her voice and performing together as a ‘neural vocal duet’.

We are curious to hear stories from such a forward-thinking artist and listen to pieces of music she holds dear.

The session will consist of a showcase by Portrait XO and The Golden Hour (interview+listening session).

Doors open at 14h30 and the session will start at 15h.

  • Where There Is Light
The need to recalibrate, reflect, and center mental wellness after uncertain years drove artist Tamara Shogaolu to develop WHERE THERE IS LIGHT. Inspired by the practice of forest bathing and by the Panamanian rainforest, WHERE THERE IS LIGHT is an interactive installation that merges mental wellness with nature through technology by allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a rainforest.

Through WHERE THERE IS LIGHT we hope to create a space where we can surrender to calmness and focus on our senses as a way to be present in the moment without the grief of what was and the fear of what could have been.Visitors will be able to explore the rainforest lidar data projections at their own pace and interact with the space through movement and breath with the forest reacting to their movements and breathing. The visuals will be paired with a sound installation of sound recording in the rainforest in Panama over a 24hr cycle. The visuals and sounds will be constantly changing from day to night, providing visitors a different experience depending on the time of day of their visit. The installation will run over the course of five days at the central ADE hub and iconic church Westerkerk. This experience will be free and open to the public with the ultimate hope of motivating all of us to take a moment during our days to connect with nature and ultimately protect the sacred spaces that are rainforests.

The installation is commissioned by Amsterdam Dance Event.

  • Within Without II
In Within Without II, artist Nick Verstand examines our subconscious by light art, music and modern dance. The performance symbolizes the transformation of the self through different stadia. Let yourself be transported into a dream world of light and darkness, sound and space.

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” ― Carl Gustav Jung

Verstand joins forces with Sedrig Verwoert (choreographer & dancer), Wanderwelle (music), Wes Broersen (interaction designer), Marijn Cinjee (music & sound design), Jasmine Karimova and Pitou (vocals). Together with Reina Trifunović, Alanna Archibald, Comfort Kondehson, Winter Wieringa and Adam Russel-Jones, Verwoert will provide the performance with dance - a three dimensional pas de deux included.

On the 19th of October, the new performance Within Without II is to be seen exclusively in Carré as the opening event of ADE, as part of the Arts & Culture program. The first edition of the audiovisual liveshow in 2021 was visited by thousands of people.

  • 24classics presents: 3VIOLAS x Vincent Rang
24classics is a classical music discovery service. By seeking new alliances and breaking boundaries and we are making classical music new. For ADE we have combined two different worlds in the iconic central building of the Zuiderkerk. The collaboration between 3VIOLAS and Vincent Rang will take you into a mesmerizing hypnotic world.

In this new audio-visual alliance the boundaries of minimal music, nature and art will be pushed. They combine, get ready for it, sounds from a live tree composed into a minimal music piece for 3 violas with a scenography by Vincent Rang. His slowly evolving underwater landscapes, created in an aquarium, will take you into a different world. The result will be a unique experience in which many worlds collide.

Vincent Rang (1989) is an experimental visual artist working primarily with moving image as a medium. He believes in the power of moving image and audio as a door into another world. He explores themes of scale, time experience, natural patters and symbiosis with audio.

His gaze is often directed towards the natural dances of life. He observes, captures and re-arranges these various patterns, from wind patterns, water currents, blooming flowers, landscapes and rock formations, to create abstract audio-visual experiences, offering the viewer enough space to find their own truth and interpretation in the work, and most importantly, to feel them.

His latest ongoing project ‘Pillars Of Creation’ focuses around a water-filled aquarium in which he creates a live choreography using various materials such as inks, plants and light, which he captures with a macro camera and then projects it on a large screen, creating mesmerizing larger than life living paintings. This project led to the creating of Home, a live audio-visual show which he performed in Het muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ and the Nxt Museum.

  • 3VIOLAS
Hessel Moeselaar, Floris Faber & Geerten Feller are 3VIOLAS. An unconventional, dynamic ensemble based in Amsterdam. Influenced and inspired by classical, pop, minimal, electronic, and film music, 3VIOLAS pursues an adventurous path by deconstructing and combining musical genres. Ever since their formation in 2015, 3VIOLAS has increasingly been gaining attention in the Dutch music scene. 3VIOLAS is a regular guest at the Amsterdam Grachtenfestival, Uitmarkt, Ruigklassiek, and The Royal Concertgebouw. In 2019, 3VIOLAS became Artist in Residence at VondelCS in Amsterdam. This is the so-called Media-Culture lab of the AVROTROS. Here they launched a meditative series of concerts called MINDVIOLNESS. 3VIOLAS can also be found more "underground" in musical collaborations with organizations such as Talking Trees and Classical Music Rave. 3VIOLAS creates a unique sound by programming both their own compositions and improvisations and music by other artists and composers.

Cultural Crossovers

  • Creatures of the Night
Fashion is about conveying desire. Vanderwilt desires to design leathers that will gently intertwine with you. To create a second skin. An adaptive layer enabling you to transcend convention. Propelling you to tread wherever you fancy. Vanderwilt will be exhibiting leather outfits as seen on stage with the likes of Dave Clarke, David Guetta, Sandra St.Victor and many more, including their latest project for Maxime Duvall who will perform ‘Creatures of the night’ in the Vanderwilt store.

The Elusive Self - Part 1 - by MC de Waal
TORCH Gallery presents The Elusive Self, a one-week-only exhibition by MC de Waal during Amsterdam Dance Event. This collaborative and multidisciplinary project is centered around a leather suit, the result of an extensive search for the right designers and materials. The outfit represents the ideal image of an assertive amazon that the artist has fantasized about since childhood.

Worn by a lifelike wax statue, the suit becomes a disorienting statement piece. The v-shaped silhouette and corresponding photographs of the three basic geometric shapes refer to two kindred spirits of De Waal from a different time: German singer and performer Klaus Nomi and German artist and choreographer Oskar Schlemmer, who regarded his costumes for the mathematical choreography of the Triadisches Ballett (1922) as 'walking architecture'.

Also on view will be documentation of a performance done by De Waal in the suit, to the new Italo disco song Creatures of the Night by her alter ego Maxime Duvall. The exhibition is completed by a new triptych of paintings by the Rotterdam collective KAMP HORST inspired by the song.

About the artist
Having always worked on the crossroads between photography, performance, music, fashion and the club scene, De Waal is a seamless fit with ADE. Years of modeling taught her how to use the body as a means of expression. Publicly pushing the boundaries of self-alteration, she deals with the concepts of human identity and the constructible man.

Rotterdam artist collective KAMP HORST is known for its intense paintings with comic-like
compositions, depicting absurd humour and strange combinations of persons, animals and objects.

Collaborators:
KAMP HORST: paintings
Vanderwilt & MC de Waal: leather suit design
Italo Connection: Creaters of the Night remix
Silas Schletterer & Maxime Duvall: soundscape
Wessel Haaxman: performance video

  • If You Could See Me Now
Art can be every bit as immersive as moving your body to the vibration of a beat on the dance floor. To prove this point, House for Contemporary Culture Het HEM, located in an impressive industrial building on the edge of Amsterdam, is presenting Arno Schuitemaker’s performance If You Could See Me Now.

Three performers reshape a chilled-out club dance into a mesmerizing wave-like motion until everything morphs into one big chunk of energy. At maximal and sweaty exertion, their incessant movement flow reinvents itself through luminous, ever-changing impressions. Seemingly casual yet with great precision, If You Could See Me Now urges another, closer look.

Arno Schuitemaker created the performance against the backdrop of a rapidly changing reality to interrogate how to deal with things when they no longer are the way they were. How do we shift and realign our focus? How to keep going and move forward? From ecstasy to turmoil, from a meticulous build-up to its fracturing, If You Could See Me Now goes right to the core of a transformative perspective.

about Arno Schuitemaker

Through a rigorous integration of movement, light, and electronic music, Arno Schuitemaker, based in Amsterdam, creates performances one has to experience. His contemporary works immerse the audience, each in their unique way. Rooted in the pages of his diary, they transform into hyperphysical and embodied meditations on life, and, consequently, the way we (can) engage with the world. The performances receive praise for the inventive forms that Arno creates to express and give meaning to universal themes. They have been presented at renowned venues and contemporary performing arts festivals in more than 25 countries.

  • ClubKultur Berlin: Beyond Sound (2022)
After the premiere of ClubKultur Berlin last year at ADE at Melkweg Cinema, this night we dive back into Berlin's club culture with a shorter version of the film and the new short film Beyond Sound. After the films, with some guests from the Berlin club scene, we look back at the film made in pandemic times and at the situation now.
  • ClubKultur Berlin
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin has been considered the superlative of the club scene. With the pandemic, an industry and subculture, along with their income, and almost taboo-free retreats and colorful personalities, have disappeared. Will there be a return, and if so, what new form of CLUB CULTURE will emerge? What influence does the dying of the clubs have on the mental health of those for whom clubs were not just for celebrating, but also a place of work or space where they could live out lust and vice in a value-free manner? The directors Leonie Gerner & Andrea Schumacher have produced a critical, fast-paced documentary. A documentation in which club operators, musicians, DJs and psychologists have their say, and previously unpublished footage from the clubs can be shown.
  • Beyond Sound
This short film draws a line between being a dj and dealing with elementary Life setbacks. They dive deep into the beginnings of one of the biggest festivals "Fusion" and open the door into Berlin's famous Clubculture. Where Clubculter was born, why festivals influenced the Clubscene in Berlin and how it feels to grow old in that industry. The portrait was produced right before Covid hit the world.
