Dance music icon Armin van Buuren, popularly known for songs like “This Is What It Feels Like” and “Blah Blah Blah”, and two-time Latin GRAMMY nominated Brazilian music superstar and philanthropist Alok, popularly known for chart-topping collaborations with John Legend, Ellie Goulding, Ava Max, and Bebe Rexha, have released their collaborative single, "Euphoria", with American singer-songwriter Norma Jean Martine and London-based DJ/producer LAWRENT. "Euphoria" is a high-energy club anthem blending van Buuren, Alok, and LAWRENT’s production with Martine’s soulful vocals and is available now via Armada Music on all streaming platforms here.

The single marks the first time Alok and Armin van Buuren have joined forces since they partnered with Vini Vici in 2018 for the single “United” on Armada Music. “Euphoria” utilizes one of the most iconic classical compositions in Beethoven's “Für Elise” and Norma Jean Martine’s exquisite vocals, which are best recognized from top French duo Ofenbach’s hit songs, “Overdrive” and “Head Shoulder Knees & Toes”. The single follows Alok's hit collaboration with fellow top Brazilian musician Anitta, “Looking For Love”, and Armin van Buuren’s joint release with German singer-songwriter Natalie Gioia, “Viva l’Opera”.
“I had a great time working with Alok again after ‘United’. He really adds something authentic into the mix, as did Norma Jean Martine and LAWRENT. Can’t wait to unleash ‘Euphoria’ into the world.” - Armin van Buuren
“I was able to feel the audience's first impression of 'Euphoria' during Tomorrowland, and now I'm excited to share it with everyone. As an artist, I enjoy creating collaborative works where I can explore new styles and sounds. This one with Armin, Norma Jean, and LAWRENT, is more geared toward dance floors and clubs. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed producing this track” - Alok

About Armin van Buuren:

It takes little to recognize that Armin van Buuren has been one of the world’s biggest DJs and producers in electronic music for over twenty years. His life-long dedication to the scene has earned him a Grammy® nomination for ‘This Is What It Feels Like’ (feat. Trevor Guthrie) and critical acclaim for global hit singles such as ‘Blah Blah Blah’, ‘Great Spirit’ (with Vini Vici), ‘Leave A Little Love’ (with Alesso) and ‘Music Means Love Forever’ (with Steve Aoki). Additionally, he claimed the number one spot in the annual DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll for an unprecedented five times, contributing to the twenty-one consecutive top 5 spots to date (the most recent being a #5 in the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll of 2023).

His two-hour radio show, A State of Trance (ASOT), is broadcast weekly from his own radio studio in the Armada Music HQ in Amsterdam to over 44 million listeners in more than 80 countries, as well as online via audio and video live stream on YouTube, Facebook and Twitch. ASOT, which surpassed the milestone number of 1000 episodes in January 2021, has grown from a small radio show into a complete dance music brand with stages and events across the globe.

Armin van Buuren has launched several ‘Armin Only’ world tours throughout the years, including the ones based on his albums (‘Imagine’ in 2008, ‘Mirage’ in 2010, ‘Intense’ in 2013 and ‘Embrace’ in 2016) and ‘The Best Of Armin Only’ in 2017. In June 2022, two years later than originally planned due to the Corona pandemic, Armin van Buuren played his most personal and intimate live shows yet through four sold-out shows in the Ziggo Dome: ‘This Is Me – Feel Again’.

In addition to all of this, Armin van Buuren is the co-founder of Armada Music, the biggest independent dance music label in the world. The Amsterdam-, NYC- and London-based record label, which was founded in tandem with Maykel Piron and David Lewis, is acclaimed internationally for releasing music across the electronic music spectrum, was voted #7 in Mixmag’s “Label Of The Decade” poll in 2017, and is the six-time winner of “Best Global Record Label” at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami, the sixth of which was won in 2018.

As a performer, Armin had headlined countless shows at leading festivals and venues around the world, including Electric Daisy Carnival (Las Vegas, New York), Ultra Music Festival (Miami) and Tomorrowland (Belgium) plus residencies at Hï Ibiza, in Las Vegas and numerous others.

On December 16, 2019, Armin van Buuren joined forces with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to motivate millions of people to join the movement and fight against plastic pollution. As a Global Oceans Ambassador, Armin will contribute to the worldwide #BeatPlastic campaign: www.arminvanbuuren.com/beatplastic.

In December 2022, Armin van Buuren launched an exclusive, web3-based community: Armin’s All-Access. Created to strengthen the connection with his fans, the community is accessible upon purchase of a limited-edition community token – a piece of digital art designed by renowned Dutch designer Rik Oostenbroek – and grants many fan-desired perks, including (early) access to various forms of exclusive content (e.g. previews of unreleased music, exclusive DJ sets in audio, exclusive merchandise items), a private, AAA-community-only space within the existing Armin van Buuren Discord channel and direct contact with Armin van Buuren himself.

To date, Armin has seven full-length artist albums to his name: ‘76’ (2003), ‘Shivers’ (2005), ‘Imagine’ (2008), ‘Mirage’ (2010), ‘Intense’ (2013), ‘Embrace’ (2015) and ‘Balance’ (2019).

The song reached #1 Billboard Dance Chart for 4 weeks in a row.

Peetu S is one of the most exciting names in today’s trance music. His sound is a unique combination of uplifting and dark melodies, killer basslines and rhythms which are strongly influenced by techno music. Passionate and hard working are the correct adjectives to describe Peetu as an artist and his tracks have seen a lot of deserved support from many of the world’s most established DJ’s.

When you have a chance to see Peetu S behind the decks, his energetic performance will definitely keep you on the dancefloor. In his sets Peetu melts trance, tech-trance and techno into energetic masterpiece which blow roofs in the clubs and make the clubbers go crazy.

Best of 2023

1-a) Best track(s) from other fellow artists of 2023. Why you choose this particular track, please share with us the reasons?production techniques & crowd reactions on it.

Peetu S: David Forbes & Allen Watts - Renegade [Who's Afraid Of 138]

-Two great producers have joined forces here and it delivers what you would expect. Hard techy sound and energetic trancey vibes in the break. The way I love to feed the dancefloor.

Alex Di Stefano - Red Zone [Drum Chapel Records]

-Alex started his new label with style. This one is hard, energetic and filthy techno that brings back memories of the good old nasty techno sound. Really like the quality of his productions.

David Forbes & Paul Denton - Bang [Who's Afraid Of 138]

-Well-known tech-trance producers collide on this release as well. The track offers a lot of tech power and finishes the experience with an energetic break. Fuel straight to the dance floor.

1-b) Best of 2023 personal productions and for what you reasons you choose these particular tracks, is it because of technical challenges, crowd reaction in the club or was it your most successful single/album?

Peetu S: Peetu S - You Broke Me [Outburst Records]

-I tried to combine different styles into this, and I think I succeeded quite well. The past year has been quite difficult for me and this track is a kind of reflection of what has been going on. The track has also acted as a kind of therapist for me, so this is very personal for me. Fortunately, people have received it well.

Peetu S - Freedom [Future Sound Of Eqypt]

-This is a follow up release on FSOE after my debut there and I could have picked 'Catch The Groove' as well. I'm a big fan of piano and breakbeat, which might be a result of the rave era when I started producing music. They just work so well together and combined with modern techno sound... do I need to say more. This was also my first ever (I remember) track which was chosen for the Tune Of The Week on ASOT.

Peetu S - Mental Component [Outburst Records]

-Besides being a piano lover, I'm a big fan of harder and nastier sounds. With this track I wanted to show my darker side. The energy I've felt from the dance floor when I've played this track has been tremendous. It feels so good that I really had to pick this one too.

2) Best Artist of 2023(DJ & producer). Tell us why you believe he/she is the best, the factors that have influence you to choose this particular artist. What you appreciate the most from that artist.

Peetu S: Mark Sherry is my choice. His professionalism and technical skills in the studio and behind the decks are just at such a high level. I also appreciate his ability to keep his feet on the ground no matter how high he ends up in the music industry.

I don't think I've mentioned David Moleon before, so he's my bonus choice for DJ. Check out his crazy hardgroove sets. He is also a great producer.

3-a) Best Remix(es) from other fellow artists of 2023. For what reasons you chose this particular remix, i.e. production proficiency, technical reasons creativity and imagination of the remixer :

Peetu S: Marco V – GODD (Mark Sherry Remix) [In Charge]

-This is tech-trance at its best. Of course, have to remember that the original is already a classic, but Mark has put his killer groove in the remix and the soundscape is perfectly balanced and detailed. Everytime I play this the crowd gets nuts.

3-b) YOUR Best Remix which you have produced of 2023! Why you believe that this is your best remix? share with us the technical challenges or special issues you had during the production of it.

Peetu S: Mark Sherry - Triquetra (Peetu S Remix) [Outburst Records]

-Mark has been my favorite producer for ages and I was thrilled when he asked me to remix this. My challenge was to overcome my own expectations and maybe because I built big obstacles in my mind between the end result and the starting point of the production, the feeling of relief after finishing this makes me choose this one for my year's 2023 most significant productions.

3-c) Best Remixer(s) of 2023 with short comment, for what reason u believe he/she is the best remixer? Technical professionalism and technological proficiency? the elements that stand out in it.

Peetu S: Definitely Mark Sherry. His production and technical skills are at such a high level that you can expect top quality from him every time. He manages to retain the perfect amount of the original vibe and add his own energetic groove to each remix.

4-a) Best electronic dance music album of 2023. Tell us the criteria behind the choice of this particular album and maybe highlight for the readers the best tracks from the album :

Peetu S: Chicane - Nevertheless [Modena Records]

-The more I listen to this album, the more convinced I become that it's the right choice. Chicane has this sound that probably wouldn't cause the highest energy peak on the dance floor, but every song on the album is so easy to listen to. All I have to do is put on my headphones, lay on the sofa and let the sound guide through the sea and the beaches.

4-b) Best electronic dance music compilation of 2023. Please explain the criteria behind this choice? is the quality and proficiency of the mixing process, imagination/creativity in the choice of the track listing :

Peetu S: Outburst presents Prism Volume 4

-"Prism" can never let you down. This year it once again brought energetic techiness from very cool artists. Track after track, the energy level of the sound is at its peak. This compilation would cause total destruction on the dance floor.

XiJaro & Pitch - Chasing Dreams Volume 1

-These two discs lead the listener through an epic journey of trance music. In this compilation you will find really nice tracks from well-known and not so well-known trance artists. A great proof of Xander's and Anthony's understanding of today's trance sound and production skills in the studio.

4-c) Best artwork about single / album/compilation or promotional campaign of 2023. The criteria you applied to do this particular choice?

Peetu S: Peetu S - You Broke Me [Outburst Records]

-I really had to choose this one. The artwork describes the essence of the track so well. In the picture, the broken robot is sitting against the wall. The tech-trance track is about a large number of small things that can be a real burden on your mind and can eventually break you. Perfect fit!

5) Best electronic dance music label of 2023. Please explain the reason behind your choice? what you particularly like or appreciate about this particular label?quality of tracks, great rooster of artists, personal connection?:

Peetu S: Outburst Records

-I've been releasing actively on this record label for a few years. Not just because I'm on the label, but they put out quality tech-trance all the time. Sometimes the sound is more trancey, sometimes harder, but the techiness of the sound remains. Every track work on the dancefloor.

6) Best music composition software and hardware of 2023 with short comment. Why you believe this particular software/hardware deserves to be named as the best? great new features, easy to navigate, compose & produce? The advantages of this particular software & hardware that makes it to stand out.

Peetu S: I like Cubase and still use older and of course newer versions to produce music. The workflow is very fast in Cubase, things work how they should and everything feels really logical. But everyone has their own taste. Software doesn't make you a good musician, it's just a tool. Don't remind me about AI... lol

7-a) Your Best personal DJ Gig & DJ performance of 2023. Where and when did you perform there? any funny incidents happened during particular performance; great crowd reactions. If there is video or sound recording please provide the link.

Peetu S: I think it's Utopia here Finland in the beginning of this year. The crowd here is very dedicated on the dance floor and they live in the moment. But I remember that this audience especially gave me the best feedback and vibes at my gigs of 2023.

7-b) Best DJ set from other fellow DJ (actual or online) of 2023. Why you believe is the strongest and best DJ set? great mixing/track selection/development of the mix:

Peetu S: It was a "studio" set from David Moleon, I can't remember the title. It's one of the few I've had time to listen to this year. It can be found on his Youtube channel. David has great style of mixing, full of energy and nice tricks.

8) Best technical tips/production skills that you learnt in 2023 in relation to your DJing or music productions:

Peetu S: I can't say anything specific, but my techniques in the studio have taken shape to a more and more professional level during these few years, during this year too. I can tell you that for sure. Learning to produce music is a never-ending road and I've figured out that challenging myself makes me better in the studio. I can notice the development when certain things seem easy and obvious and don't take that much time anymore.

9) Best piece of personal or music business' advice you got in relation to your career in 2023 and has helped you to progress even further and can help others who will read this interview:

Peetu S: I've learned everything the hard way in the music industry. This is raw business and could say partly also politics, I mean the whole scale. The competition is so hard that other people might use you for their own purposes. But do what you love and listen to yourself. Learn to say "no" or "maybe later". You're doing music because of you and for your fans who like what you do. You're not doing music to anyone else or behalf of anyone.

Dimitris: Do you have any concrete plans for 2024 regarding future releases, tracks, albums, collaborations, DJ gigs? Please provide us the juicy details.

Peetu S: Yes I definitely do! But right now I can't reveal them yet. Keep your eyes open in my socials, I will let you know soon. :)

Dimitris: Your message & wishes for 2024.

Peetu S: Support your favorite artists, listen to their music, maybe buy a track or two if possible and come see us at gigs. In addition to ourselves, we are here for you guys. Also, do a little research. There are also really nice and talented unknown artists in the world who deserve to be heard. Thank you so much for your support, it means a world to me. Have an awesome year 2024! See you! ;)

Thanks so much to Peetu S for his excellent answers.

Thanks so much to Stuart Jackson, AE Management for this interview.

Bearing the audial stamp of both Push and the duo, Crashguard, he's one half of, 'I Want To Tell You' has got to be among the most captivating cuts featured on the 'A State of Trance, Ibiza 2023' mix album. [content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] The legend Push returns on Armada Music with his exceptional track I Want To Tell You produced with Crashguard. The track is an exceptional hybrid of deep melodic techno and deep raw driving progressive trance with deep haunting basslines, thumping kicks, elastic drums and superb dark synths along with melodramatic epic synths, dark and sinister melody stabs and exceptional arrangement that manage to absorb the listeners minds straight away and carry them to another mysterious realm. It's one of those track that techno and trance DJs will play to offer atmosphere and set the tone for their mixes. Today, Armada Music is releasing the next track from Armin van Buuren, "Computers Take Over The World". The track was premiered at EDC Las Vegas and has since been a staple in recent live sets, including Ultra Europe, and Tomorrowland. The track's vocals were generated by the voice assistant of a MacBook, and all promotional assets for the release, from the artwork and the music video to this very press release, were co-created using AI technology.

Humorous and catchy, ‘Computers Take Over The World’ is a light-hearted way of poking fun at how reliant the world has become on technology, suggesting that one day a computer might even take over Armin van Buuren’s job. After all, everything you need is “a beat, you need a clap, put in some hats, and you need some bass!”

With the help of AI tools such as Stable Diffusion (artwork), The Deforum Notebook (video), OpenAI Playground (press release and social media copies), Munch App (social media assets), and design and technology firm Your Majesty (campaign guidance), Armin van Buuren, lead the first ever AI co-created marketing campaign for a music release. Though the track is playful, the concept of a world fully intertwined with AI technology is quite thought provoking. With this innovative marketing campaign where nearly every step of this release involved some form of AI assistance, Armin van Buuren highlights how we may not be so far off from this reality. Promotional elements of the campaign were shaped from well-written prompts inputted into the AI tools and what transpired were detailed artworks, videos, and factual text about Armin van Buuren and this release. Only minor adjustments were made by humans to the assets that AI created, showcasing that perhaps with just a little more learning, computers really could take over the world!
On the music, Armin van Buuren (ahem, the AI text bot) comments: "The lyrics for 'Computers Take over The World' were actually created by playing around with the voice assistant on my laptop. I was amused by how things would sound when read by that robotic voice and thought it would be fun to create a silly song about how computers can do almost anything nowadays."
Armin van Buuren is one of the most important names in the dance music scene. He has been releasing music and touring for over two decades, and he is showing no signs of slowing down. His weekly radio show, A State Of Trance, is one of the most popular shows in the genre. He also runs multiple record labels and is always championing new and upcoming producers. With over 12 million monthly listeners on Spotify, it is clear that Armin van Buuren is one of the most beloved names in the industry.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Armin van Buuren has the most impressive performances in the festival stages around the world. His latest anthem is an excellent example of mainstage friendly techno that has the tough dark moody basslines, pumping kick drums, acid overtones and cool computer generated generic vocals. The result is the banging Computers Take Over The World that simply works and will do damage on dancefloors and festivals stages. Usually the simple ideas are the ones that work the most and are on the spot! Top notch indeed. #PureBass Love IT[/content]

Like many genres within the electronic music scope, trance music has a huge list of classics. In fact, there are so many you probably don't even know where to start. To help you out, we've highlighted ten timeless trance songs from our 24-track ‘Trance Legacy’ vinyl album. That way, you can easily get a taste of the tracks that shaped the genre into all it is today.

Have a look below, listen to the Spotify player below or just grab the vinyl album for instant access to some of the best trance tracks ever made, from pioneers such as Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Chicane, Ferry Corsten, Lange, Solarstone and more!

Veracocha – Carte Blanche

Already twenty-three years old at the time of writing, Veracocha’s 1999 single ‘Carte Blanche’ is a no-brainer to put on any trance classics shortlist. Flaunting a super-recognizable piano chime and main melody, the song was produced by Ferry Corsten and Vincent de Moor, who are widely regarded as two of trance music’s most seminal artists.

System F – Out Of The Blue

Ferry Corsten is keeping ‘m coming, this time with ‘Out Of The Blue’ under his System F moniker. The track, which was released as a single in 1999 and went on to spearhead System F’s debut album (2001) as its title track, was fairly recently voted #46 in the all-time A State Of Trance Top 1000 list. That’s how popular this track still is.

Three Drives On A Vinyl – Greece 2000

‘Greece 2000’ by Three Drives On A Vinyl (later abbreviated to Three Drives) is without a doubt the perfect Ibiza anthem. Soundtracking beach parties and rosy sunsets since its release back in 1999, the track should be included in every discerning classics playlist.

Armin van Buuren – Communication

Already mentioned in ‘Twenty Trance Classics From Armin van Buuren That Can’t Be Forgotten’, ‘Communication’ is often considered the breakthrough track of the five-time #1 DJ in the world. Originally released in 1999, the track’s iconic melody has since been revamped countless times, by Armin van Buuren himself (in 2007’s ‘Communication Part 3’, for instance) and remixing artists such as AVIRA.

Chicane feat. Moya Brennan – Saltwater

Of course, ‘Saltwater’ by the legendary Chicane. Chicane already scored a massive hit in 1997 with ‘Offshore’, and then dropped ‘Saltwater’ two years later. The track, which features the vocals of Irish singer-songwriter Moya Brennan (or Máire Brennan), ended up at #6 in the UK Singles Chart and remains one of Chicane’s most beloved classics to date. It’s also included in one of our earlier articles: ‘The 100 Best Vocal Trance Classics (1997-2011)’!

Binary Finary – 1998 (Paul van Dyk Remix)

Whilst Binary Finary’s ‘1998’ counts as a classic in its own right, we opted for this remix from none other than trance legend Paul van Dyk. The uplifting nature and steady progression of Paul van Dyk’s version is – to countless fans – just how trance music should be.

Solarstone – Seven Cities (Solarstone’s Atlantis Mix)

If you truly want to get lost in the music, this 1999 version of Solarstone’s ‘Seven Cities’ is your go-to record. The track was produced by Rich Mowatt and Andy Bury, claimed #39 in the UK Singles chart and even got remixed by Armin van Buuren a few years later, whose 2002 version made it to the UK Singles chart as well. Melodic brilliance from start to finish.

Jurgen Vries – The Theme

‘The Theme’, produced by British producer Darren Tate under one of his many monikers, is an anthemic as its title implies. The lead synth riff gets listeners time and time again, especially when it drops in unison with the rolling bassline. This is one of those classics fans go nuts to every time it gets played on stage.

Gouryella – Gouryella

Whenever the term “uplifting trance” pops up in conversation, this is the track that instantly becomes top of mind. Produced by Tiësto and Ferry Corsten before the former left the Gouryella project under Corsten’s custody, this eponymous single became a huge hit in 1999, even landing a spot in the Top 15 in the U.K.

Lost Witness – Happiness Happening (Lange Remix)

This one’s also featured in our article containing ‘The 100 Best Vocal Trance Classics’, and for good reason. Whilst the original single from Lost Witness also achieved great success, including this remix is our way to pay homage to British DJ and producer Lange, who has been one of trance music’s pioneers. We recommend checking out his track ‘Drifting Away’ as well, which is also part of the Trance Legacy album.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Albert Neve & Abel Ramos co-operate to deliver a stunning debut on SONO, the beloved label of Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano. The uplifting feel good anthem Guarachando in its extended mix is powerful tribal upfront tech house with fantastic organic percussion, bouncy in your face bassline and excellent vocal samples that manage easily to stay in your head for hours and circulate in your mind for months. Very clever, sexy and irresistibly danceable is pure audio delight. The tech remix adds a much more deeper techier vibe with very nice application of the organic percussion and top notch vocals with focus on the groove and the hypnotic vocals. [content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] Kryder  is one of the most consistent producers on Armada delivering original and remixes that stand out. After the superb Tourmaline comes his collaboration with Jay Robinson featuring the stand out vocals by Nazzereene with Touching Skin. The track has an old school early rave feel with some basic grooves and chunky basslines while on top summery synthy layers added along with the brilliant vocals. The climax unleashes the euphoric piano chords to pump up the proceedings and start bouncing and shaking around. The hypnotic delivery of the vocals in a jazzy tone contrasts well  with that premium piano melody.  The result is unique house banger with that retro feel. #PureGold Love iT[/content]
