[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] Basil O'Glue makes a triumphant return to JOOF Recordings with his latest solo release, Takeover, an audacious track that masterfully bridges trance and techno. Clocking in at 136 BPM, Takeover is engineered to dominate peak-time slots, offering an electrifying experience tailor-made for underground dance floors. The production of Takeover showcases impeccable attention to detail, with a polished mixdown that emphasizes both clarity and depth. The track is anchored by tough, tech-infused kicks that deliver a punchy low-end, balanced exquisitely with pounding dark basslines. The bass design employs subtle modulation techniques, creating an evolving groove that maintains listener engagement. Layered atop this foundation are meticulously crafted metallic percussions that add rhythmic complexity, providing crisp high-frequency energy. The use of reverb and delay effects on these elements creates a spatial dimension, enhancing the track's immersive quality without cluttering the mix. Basil's signature melodic edge shines through with dark, euphoric synth hooks that emerge during the breakdown. These synths are built with rich harmonic layering and subtle filter sweeps, creating a haunting atmosphere. The sound design incorporates analog-inspired textures, giving the track an organic feel amid its digital precision. The breakdown is a masterclass in tension-building. Atmospheric pads and ethereal textures evolve gradually, underpinned by a rising synth line that crescendos into the main dark climax. This contrast between the serene breakdown and the aggressive drop provides a dynamic flow that captivates and energizes the dance floor. Takeover’s versatility makes it an asset for both tech trance and psy trance sets. For tech trance DJs, the track’s driving grooves, sharp percussion, and relentless energy align perfectly with the genre's demand for hypnotic, high-octane tracks. The tight, percussive elements and robust basslines provide the rhythmic backbone needed to maintain momentum in intense set moments. For psy trance DJs, Takeover’s dark, psychedelic undertones and hypnotic low-end frequencies resonate with the genre’s aesthetic. The track’s atmospheric depth, combined with its evolving soundscapes and trance-like synth motifs, creates a mind-bending journey that complements the psychedelic vibe. In essence, Takeover is a testament to Basil O'Glue’s prowess in blending genres, delivering raw power fused with atmospheric complexity. It stands out as both a dancefloor weapon and an intricate piece of sonic art—pure gold for any DJ’s arsenal. Love it[/content]

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Basil O'Glue is one of the strongest progressive producers with certain vision and unique sound coming out from Greece in the last decade. His productions are always top notch and highly successful. His latest track on JOOF is the stunning Tell Nobody. Deep haunting moody basslines, punchy kicks and pumping drums along with cinematic Vangelis style synths with fantastic progression throughout to create an excellent tripping out effect that can hypnotize the listener and make him feel transported to another place. The dark distorted spoken vocal sample adds the needed context for the story that Basil O'Glue knows so well to paint with his music brushes. Deep progressive trance from one of the very first masters of this particular sound who constantly delivers the goods and artists like John OO Flemming and Solarstone trust him blindfolded. #PureGold Love IT [/content]

“A decision was made to shake things up. Once that was done, says John 00 Fleming, that change took on a life of its own”. The “it” JOOF refers to is ‘Editions’ - his rule-adverse compilation series, which is currently on the touchline, warming up for its fifth outing. The most apparent modification is in the number of DJs mixing it, which has leapt - quadrupling (yup!) from one to four. “Originally I was just going to bring in one other, but amazing co-mixing suggestions kept coming up. Those suggestions turned into options and, well, here we are!”

“It has says John allowed for the album to become a far more focussed affair”. With runtimes regularly pushing five hours, Vols. 1 thru 4 were nothing less than odysseys into the fantastic minutiae of progressive. Epic, deep sonic probes, endeavouring to explore every corner of an arguably limitless genre. Beatport all-genre chart toppers and agents of scene change (they played their part in unlocking ASOT door to Progressive last year) ‘JOOF Editions’ mixes became the new apotheosis in journeys by a DJ. In 2019 however, ‘JOOF Editions’ is getting both smaller and larger. With the series’ door opened to a cadre of label friends and fellow defenders of the electronic music underground, joining him in 2019 are Gai Barone, Paul Thomas and Tim Penner.

To accommodate, John’s reined in the legendarily expansive limits of his own mix. However the release’s overall musical length has almost doubled in size again. Each of the handpicked DJs had up to two-hours with which to make the case for their own particular tract of progressive. “It’s very much the best of all worlds, John feels. It’s allowed me to become even more focussed on a couple of bandwidths, while my co-mixers travel their own lanes, broadening the release as a whole”.

Fleming’s fifth is the perfect truncation of the JOOF Editions’ you know and love. Its wonderful spacey intro calcifies swiftly into a chunkier, more groove-hardy thing. Incorporating housier undertones along the way, Basil O'Glue’s ‘Nekyia’ and - in its Facade variation - ‘Shrine’ sit alongside Stan Kolev’s ‘Ananda’. Delivering one stunning, toughly percussive and echoically-intense sequence after another, it culminates with ‘Arise’ and ‘Timelapse’ – a double hit from Jerome Isma-Ae. At the midpoint, John’s mix traverses subtlety but unmistakable onto darker, more robust terra. JOOF’s own ‘Drop From The Vile’ and Miika Kuisma’s ‘Tri-be’ shadow Airwave’s ‘Perth To San Diego’, themselves prefacing a dozen other killers. Mix-matters come to the most anthemic of heads through Oliver Prime’s envisioning of LSG’s ‘Netherworld’.

The first of JOOF’s ‘Editions’ guest-mixers is the suddenly-everywhere Canadian, Tim Penner. A man with a notable passion for progressive’s more abstract and avant-garde natures, Tim’s delivers a ceaselessly fascinating two hours of music. Needlework-fine in its mixing, precisely nuanced and exploratory in the sonics, it courses with the latest soundware from The Stupid Experts, Rick Pier O'Neil, ACUMEN, Be Morais and others. Alongside, naturally, is a respectively significant dose of Penner’s own material, sourced from his just-released ‘Radio Silence’ album. Bringing Tim on board, John said: “Once in each decade you come across a genius of a producer. One that is so far forward thinking you’re unsure where to place them in the genre sphere. That’s Tim Penner in a nutshell”.

“No introduction necessary!” however is how John heralds ‘Editions 5’s next-to-the-decks. (Heck, he’ll give him one anyway!). “Gai Barone is a producer who - from Sasha to Armin van Buuren, exists outside every bubble. His hypnotic melodies have become irresistible to every music lover. Its not just talent either, Gai is one of the loveliest most humble artists on this planet.” In his quest to do justice to the Editions’ remap, the Italian’s gone to some extraordinary lengths. An album capsule perched atop a mix-comp rocket, whether it be original or remix, Gai’s had a hand in no less than 14 of the 17 tracks in his mix. Aliases too? You betcha. Charlotte Petitte, Dead Panther, Tannura Revolutionary Blocks, Celvee, Ayer Astura, Barra Uno – all extraordinary, all new Barone masks and monikers.

Last and by no means least is moonlighting FSOE UV A&R man, Paul Thomas. Welcoming Paul, John says: “The latest new breed rising over the past couple of years getting on the radar of the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren along with touching a chord with the Trance world too, says John. One of the standout Progressive DJ/Producers over the past few years”, Paul Thomas angles his mix a touch later-night than his co-mixers. Elevating its tempo, through key tracks like Dmitry Molosh’s ‘Sacra’, Molosh’s rewire of Aly & Fila vs. Ferry Corsten’s ‘Camellia’ and Paul’s own ‘Joheia’ & ‘Lorax’ numbers, he brings greater emphasis to melodica, lift and endzone drive.

Fleming. Barone. Thomas. Penner. The men behind the only progressive compilation anyone’s gonna need this year!?? Well that’s for you to tell us! All eight hours of it drops next month. You can pre-order it here

Lastly to celebrate the release of the fifth ‘JOOF Editions’, John’s taking it back to where it all began. On April 21 at The Arch in his hometown Brighton, Hernan Cattaneo, co-mixer Paul Thomas and John himself will toast the album’s arrival. A rare chance to see the globe-circling DJ in his native environment and an even rarer opportunity to see Argentina’s greatest musical export outside the UK’s capital - this (literally!) is not to be taken sitting down. Easter Sunday, The Arch, Brighton.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Airwave is one of the most gifted producers of his generation and his music making is always at the top of the ladder. His latest EP is just brilliant with two tracks that move to quite different directions. Firstly Time Is A Healer is  a brilliant dark progressive trance anthem with psy influences. Dark thumping basslines, pounding drums, superb percussion, haunting atmosphere, moody synthy lines and cinematic vocal samples turns this track into a powerful hypnotic dream affair that will please those who search for quality sounds. Forget the Past is a more melodic affair with nice drive, pulsating basslines, pumping drums and cool positive feel good synthy themes that add colour and atmosphere and will inspire us all to forget the past and move forward aspiring for a better bright future. #PureGold Love IT  [/content]

To truly push the envelope, logic dictates you must first bin its respective rulebook. In conceiving his JOOF Editions series, that’s what John 00 Fleming did with mixcomp’s rubric. He imagined a higher, more reflective calling for the medium, taking it beyond that of mere DJs’ ‘calling card’. A means to an end, ‘Editions’ convention-busting 4-hour + runtimes provide a 1-for-1, real-time mirroring of the XL 00 Fleming experience.

That though is now four-year-old history. In the intervening years, ‘JOOF Editions’ have become John’s established ‘norm’ – the only way he does compilation business. On cue, this March sees him deliver its fourth voluminous volume.

Heightened mixcomp orders naturally call for ever more exacting measures, and ‘in JOOF Editions 4’s assembly, John has once again been unwavering in the collative pursuit. In the quest for its audio, no studio stone has gone unturned - a trek that has taken him to the doors of producers ranged from the legendary to the neophyte.
John 00 Fleming

Over 276 minutes you’ll find material from a virtual Who’s Who of prog-trance’s best known and capable. Max Graham, L.S.G., Quivver, Union Jack, Airwave, Orkidea, The Digital Blonde, Moshic – you name ‘em, they’re represented. Equally there’s audio from its 21st Century class - Jerome Isma Ae & Alastor, Guy J, Stan Kolev, Tim Penner, Basil O’Glue, Rick Pier O’Neil, Paul Thomas, Façade all making ‘V4’s cut. For every recognisable name though, there’s a track from a producer in whom John’s seen significant future promise. JOOF Recordings’ arrivals like Alex Morelli, The Stupid Experts, Roby M Rage and Robert Elster all marshal. As naturally does the deep floor conquistador himself, with John including new JOOFware like ‘Planet X’, ‘Protected By Karma’ and his latest single, ‘We Close Doors’.

At its outset, ‘Editions 4’s style-band is locked into the cooler paced, ether-soaked and more celestially esoteric. Zero convulsions or shock value contrivances, its feel is a constant flux of minor ebb & contrasting flow. An engrossing trip, it’s one that looks not out… but up. As it progresses - matched by sounds, by degrees tougher, more impressing and forceful, its pace imperceptibly increases. Galactic in feel, size and tone, piece by painstaking piece, another classic’s been built.
In delivering his fourth ‘JOOF Editions’ odyssey, John 00 Fleming feels that it’s “the most exciting of times” for the album to arrive. “Our sound is finally back where I dreamt it would be… And it only took 14 years he deadpans. That corner’s been turned and it’s become a force again. Year on year since they began, he continues, I see the ‘JOOF Editions’ releases as the ones that most clearly and authentically document that upswing”.
Be of no doubt though, said “upswing” is no chance happening, but the result of a concerted push by John and others. Taking one of trance (or even dance music’s) most inherently underground styles to arenas like A State Of Trance and Dreamstate is something that would have seemed improbable just four years ago.
Fresh from playing ASOT’s first ever progressive stage last week, he said: “these things take time to resolve”. That’s healthy though, and naturally all the more satisfying for the time it took. The style, or indeed set of sub-styles, he considers are not ones you can pin words like ‘overt’, ‘instant’ or ‘obvious’ to. Paradoxically that’s one of its main appeals”.
John is in no doubt as to where the newer audiences for the style that ‘JOOF Editions 4’ typifies come from either. “Both ends”, he states. “In essence, our music is the only viable bridge between the trance genre as a whole and a swathe of other electronic music areas. By the same token, the opposite end of Trance had to run out of evolutionary road before the shift to progressive could happen. It had to reach a point where it couldn’t get any harder, or more uplifting, mainstream, extreme, etc. That cycle’s resolved now. Its race has been run. And that’s why we’re here”.
On finishing the compiling of ‘JOOF Editions 4’, he’s also 20/20 on where music for future ‘Editions’ will be sourced. "It won’t be coming from trance. Our intake will be from the progressive and techno areas".

Dark Matter notches up a solid JOOF Recordings debut with this sublime epic two tracker entitled Something Inside Me Died. Dark Matter resides in multiple genres of electronic music, effortlessly moving between sounds which can be found on a plethora of labels. Notable works can be found on top labels and hammered out in many playlists by top jocks. The rich diversity this artist conjures up is something to behold which makes this release something special. A pleasure to welcome Dark Matter to the JOOF family.

The epic Something Inside Me....Died opens with a scene straight out of a mysterious thriller. Droning pads are matched with contrasting eerie toy pianos before a monster chugging bassline fades up, getting us into full on trance mode. Pounding beats soon take over, driving the rhythms and forcing us to move. Subtle acid lines intertwine with cool FX creating colourful textures while the main synth lead adds an air of warming melodies. A serious dark trancer for the discerning clubber.
Shrine Of The Spring Night Forest intros with a sublime sequence filled with contrasting pads that cover the low end and high end frequency range. Thumping kicks burst through as the pads fade out leaving a powerful rolling bassline in their wake. Soft arpeggios dish out mesmeric melodies as the tight drums keep the floor rocking. A series of big synth sequences take us high into the trance stratosphere and on the break we're treated to a beautifully crafted melodic arrangement that climaxes with a massive drum roll which slams us back into full on mode. A monster sound that will not disappoint.

Master of the deeper/darker/cooler trance arts, John 00 Fleming began the New Year with news of his first early ‘18 operations. Top of the info-drop was confirmation of a fourth volume in his eminent ‘Editions’ compilation series. With the first three each having posted top #1 positions on Beatport’s all-genres album chart, the expectation x anticipation axis for 4 is substantial. With a mid-Feb release date locked, bet on another ground/rule-breaking four-hour-plus safari through 2018’s progressive, tribal, deeper trance and melodic soundfields.

To give ‘Editions 4’ the reception it deserves, John has lined up a singular night of clubbing for Friday Feb 16th (release weekend for the album).

‘4’ will go to the floor for a one-off OTC expedition at London’s immortal Ministry Of Sound. Long known for its fulsome weekly DJ line-ups, John will join the very-short-indeed honour roll of spinners offered an all-night-long set in The Box at The Gallery.

Trance vet? Well then you’ll know what to expect! If you’ve never witnessed one DJ hold dominion over a floor for six hours straight, this is rite of clubbing passage you owe yourself to take. One way or another, it will be a trip, and a small moment in clubbing history to boot. Tickets have gone on sale: you can secure yours here.

For those looking to make a JOOF weekend of it, the word only gets better. Pushing the boundaries again, John will headline ASOT’s first ever Progressive-dedicated stage/hall on the 17th (the night after the MoS/Gallery launch). Having picked up the phone and masterminded proceedings with Armin van Buuren (hear more on what he had to say about that here), John will bring the sound he’s championed for the greater part of two decades to central Utrecht’s Jaarbeurs arena.

More info on ‘Editions 4’s tracklist, artwork and release will soon follow!

Haifa, Israel based DJ and producer Sagy Amir aka One Million Toys debuts on JOOF Aura with the impressive two tracker entitled Tensile/NKM. Sagy is an engineer by day but by night he sets his sights on DJing and producing. Using his surroundings as inspiration he juggles his work as a physicist and musician to create a unique sound intended to take you on a journey. For over 5 years he has been racking up the releases across several top labels. We did not hesitate to sign this guy up and we know his sound will fit the JOOF family perfectly.

Tensile sets out with a nice chunky kick drum and sharp, snappy snare drum as shuffling hi hats fade in. The rhythm picks up effortlessly as a solid probing bassline is introduced. An epic journey is on the cards here and we soon settle in for the ride. Striking guitar plucks and mesmeric arpeggios are lined up against a rising pad that fills out the spectrum beautifully. On the break those pads unleash a stunning melodic display that would not be amiss on a movie score. After the break we're led deeper into the groove on this epic journey making this an absolute must have track for your collection.

NLM intros with a banging kick drum and is soon joined by crispy hi hats and sharp snares. You can feel the tech vibes literally flow out the sound as a rising synth takes us to the drop were a superb analogue style bassline takes control. Space age synth shots and a hypnotic arpeggio make for a trippy sequence and on the break this couldn't be more prominent thanks to even trippier robotic voices. A fantastic and expertly crafted production that will most definitely find its way to the floors.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]JOOF Aura presents 2 very strong compositions by One Million Toys. The very talented producer delivers  Tensile & NLM. Tensile is deep moody progressive trancer with energetic synthy hook that will drive the track forward and deliver incredible atmosphere. It has groove, hypnotic rhythm and superb sounds merged to uplift your spirit. NLM is a deeper more industrial trance affair with distorted synthy hooks and dystopian dark atmosphere with certain cyber punk aggressive raw touch to it. Both of course have the psy trance infusions to make them appropriate for JOOF Aura release. #PureGold Love IT [/content]
