About DuMonde:
DuMonde is a German trance and hard trance project established in 1997 by musicians Jürgen Mutschall (JAMX) and Dominik de León (De Leon). Their debut single, “Tomorrow,” contributed to the late 1990s surge in popularity of trance music in Europe. Subsequent singles, including “See The Light,” “Never Look Back,” and “God Music,” along with successful remixes for acts such as Binary Finary, Sash!, Rank 1, Push, and Alice Deejay, solidified their position as prominent figures in the mainstream German trance scene. In 2007, the duo decided to pursue solo careers.

DuMonde made a comeback in 2024 with the release of the single “Sometimes.” The current iteration of the project comprises founding member Jürgen Mutschall, who is assisted by studio collaborator D.Mand, a German producer and audio engineer.

1-Best self-produced/personal tracks of 2024

Explain your choices for the best 2024 personal productions. Were they due to challenges, crowd reactions, or success on download shops/streaming services?

Dustin Husain: Shooting Stars with Adara released on Find Your Harmony, gathered the most expectation as people were really drawn into the nostalgic but modern sounds of a dance and trance hybrid track. The vocal took you above and made sure you can vibe and live in positivity

Soul Energy release on Dreamstate Records, gathered the attention of all those who love rave culture as this release showcased my signature high energy trance sound.

2) Best Artist of 2024 (DJ & Producer)

Analyze why you consider the selected artist the best in their genre. Explain the factors that influenced your decision and highlight their most appreciated aspects.

Dustin Husain: Guiseppe Ottaviani to me is the best in 2024 as he presents many different concepts to keep the music fresh especially in the Trance realm. I appreciate what he does for the scene as it allows other artists to keep pushing forward within the genre.

3) Your best self-produced remix of 2024

Dustin Husain: I wouldn’t say there are best new talents atm but to all the artists doing their thing wether A List or not is what is best to me. This allows everyone to showcase their talents and it allows Trance Music to thrive year in and year out!

5) Best Electronic Dance Music Label of 2024
Explain your choice. What appeals to you about this label? Is it the high-quality tracks, the impressive roster of notable artists, or something else?

Dustin Husain: This one is pretty hard as I do like a lot of labels out there but I do like the team at High Contrast (Be Yourself Music), I love the attention to detail they provide and the vibes they give off. They make you feel at home and go the extra mile if need be.

8-a)Your Best Personal DJ Gig and DJ Performance of 2024:

Dustin Husain: Dreamstate 2024 - So Cal at the Queen Mary - I love playing for dreamstate as to me this is the grand daddy of all Trance events that happens the week for Thanksgiving(trance-giving) here in the states.

I have played 3 sets which all 3 were different feelings. I enjoy showcasing my talents during this time as I can freely play trance and have the connection with the crowd and fans.

8-b) Best DJ set from another DJ (real or online) of 2024.
Explain why you think it’s the strongest. Highlight exceptional mixing, track selection, and overall mix development.

Dustin Husain: Oh man Marlo’s Dreamstate 2024 set was off the hook with the classic dance reworks.. hope they get proper releases !

9)Share your most valuable technical advice and production techniques from 2024, specifically related to DJing or music production.

Pounding tough techy basslines, pounding drums, punchy kicks and superb distorted synths in true dystopian direction. The breakdown in contrast is truly epic with huge orchestral strings and tear jerking pitched guitar riffs and piano chords building in truly melodramatic tone and pushing all the right emotional buttons. A powerful dancefloor solution and the definition of bittersweet trance, ‘Poison’ is administered by a vocal lullaby that you think couldn’t possibly do you harm. [content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Rank 1 tracks will always be adored because of the incredible synths and the memorable melodies. The timeless Such is Life feat. Shanokee is perfectly remixed by XiJaro & Pitch who deliver energetic driving basslines, pumping bouncy kicks and classic style beats while on top the original melodies are gracing the track. The breakdown is highlighted from the mouthwatering classical orchestral strings and stunning Shanokee voice that shines with her brilliant performance. The climax is powerful and euphoric as the original but tougher and sharper and crispier perfect for the loud sound systems of 2023.  #PureGold Love IT[/content]

The original ‘Awakening’ from Dutch powerhouse pair Rank1 is taken from 2002’s ‘Symsonic’ album, with versions from Ferry Corsten and Cosmic Gate. The Amsterdam-Australian Altitude ringleader MaRLo is given the responsibility of blasting the remix into the ears of the next generation, and does so fast and furiously. Racing through the night with plenty of sting, allowing for brief shelter by returning the compliments of the breakdown, ‘Awakening’ is all-action with a capital A. As all of the original’s components climb to the top, trance’s golden era comes home to blow minds second time around.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Rank 1 are responsible for brilliant trance anthems with Awakening being one of their finest moment. The track still delivers and whenever is remixed gets the applause and support by many. The beloved MaRLo is on remix duties for the Awakening and does what he knows best to bring the classic in 2023. Heavy pounding techno infused basslines, cold thundercrushing drums, heavy grooves and raw atmosphere interrupted from snippets of the hair raising synths until the big breakdown comes in to reveal the euphoric melody in all its glory plus the whispering female vocals. The climax goes of the hook banging and booming for the ultimate crescendo to bring tears to the eyes of all those who loved it back in the days. #PureGold Love IT[/content]

Interview was written and conducted by Dimitri Kechagias, Music Journalist & Radio host on 1mix radio.

Dimitris: When did you start your involvement with electronic dance music and which music style you are more affiliated with and why?

Marty 'N Rizzo: I started producing in 1996 and Hardcore was the genre it all started with. The heavy distorted kickdrums, fast tempo and 4/4 beats got me hooked to electronic dance music. Afterwards I started discovering all kinds of genres, but the ones that touches me the most are the genres with heavy bassdrums, catchy rhythms or beautiful melodies.

Dimitris: Did you had the opportunity to attend any kind of music production course or are u completely self taught? Do you consider that is essential for any artist to complete any production course?

Marty 'N Rizzo: I started working in USA Import Antwerp, a record store based in Antwerp city in 1996. At that time, it was all about (expensive) hardware. In the back they had a recording studio where M.I.K.E. Push was working. I had the golden opportunity to experiment with all that hardware and with the money I made with producing (and working), I bought myself my own homestudio.  Basically I'm self taught, but I also got tips and tricks from colleagues like ilektrify (Q-ic), DJ Coone, DJ Promo, Bizzy Works, Jo Langie (Mutools), etc...

Dimitris: In which label was your first ever release and how did you manage to attract the attention of the label?

Marty 'N Rizzo: My very first release (on vinyl) was on Pharcyde Terror. I was 18 years old at that time. I produced a few Hardcore tracks at my house together with a close friend and with our demo on cassette, we went to USA Import. M.I.K.E. Push checked the demo and we got our first record deal. But the release I was most proud of was my first solo track 'Reign of fire', released on The Third Movement in 2003. That track made it to the famous Thunderdome compilation CD. Because I always want to challenge my creativity, I started producing other genres too.

Dimitris: Please pick for us your Top 5 tracks that you have produced and you consider them as being highly important for the progress of your career and you consider them as a milestone!

Marty 'N Rizzo:

1. Dominion - Reign of fire

2. Yves- V - Get up and dance (Marty 'N Rizzo remix) (official Tomorrowland 2008 anthem)

3. Junior Waxx - Banging record (Point Blanc remix)

4. Marty 'N Rizzo - Blockbuster

5. Marty 'N Rizzo - Go with the wolf

Dimitris: Let's focus on your latest release Go with the wolf. Please tell us from where did you got the inspiration for the track?

Marty 'N Rizzo: On a night, almost one year ago, I was experimenting with some sounds from a new soundbank. After a bit of tweaking, I immediately came up with the pluck melody, which is the foundation of the track. I played a few chords and the whole track came together in my head. A few hours later, the basics were set. And a few days later, the track was finished. My girlfriend came up with the title. She said wow, this track makes me just go with the flow. And flow spelled backwards is... ;)

Dimitris: How long it took you to produce it and was an easy or difficult process? If you have faced any difficulties please tell us about them and how did you resolved them?

Marty 'N Rizzo: In contradiction with many of my other tracks, I did not had any difficulties with Go with the wolf. Everything came out smoothly and the track is not so complex. Even the mixing process was pretty easy. A good trick for the workflow for example, is having all the elements playing in the same key, so it is easier to cut or boost the frequencies because they are all in the same range. Go with the wolf was completely finished in seven days I think. Afterwards I send my tracks to Da Goose Mastering for mastering. Mastering is something I'm not good at so I  leave that part of the process to experienced people.

Dimitris: Which was the biggest challenge that you faced during the production of this superb track?

Marty 'N Rizzo: This track is all about emotion. So using the correct instruments to express that emotion was of big value.

Dimitris: Can you describe to us the steps that you went through the production of this track and of any other track?

Marty 'N Rizzo: In contradiction to many producers, I almost never start with the kickdrum. I start with playing a melody on the keys. I always get my inspiration from different sounds. I start tweaking those knobs, and I'm off. Once I have found the melody I want, I start adding the bassline and chords. At that point I have either created the break of the song, or the drop. It depends. Than I start producing the intro with elements of the break and the drop and at last I finish the outro. When I work with a vocalist, like J-Why, I start working with his vocal and I will create the music around that vocal. (Like we did in the Trap track Smoke alone, released on Blanco Y Negro, or Pussy rule the world, a bangin EDM track released on Digital Empire VIP).

Marty 'N Rizzo

Dimitris: When the track finished did the label accepted it as it was produced or did the label recommend you to do some changes or fix certain things?

Marty 'N Rizzo: No, lucky for me the WoNKed Music group accepted the demo as it was.

Dimitris: Is this track an original composition or is it based on a template from another track produced from you or another producer?

Marty 'N Rizzo: With every track I produce, I always start from scratch. So this production is like all my other songs an original composition. (I guess that's why it takes me so long to produce a song all the time).

Dimitris: Is the quality of this track higher than your previous one? If yes in what ways this track sounds better than your previous one?

Marty 'N Rizzo: My goal is to improve my skills with every release, so I hope this one sounds better than my previous songs. I couldn't say that it sounds better, but it does sounds different.

Dimitris: Do you have any friends or relatives that you send them the track before sending it to a label or if you are DJ did you test it in your gigs? If yes did you have to do any alterations as a result of the crowd reaction?

Marty 'N Rizzo: Most of the time, not always, I send my tracks to ilektrify to hear his opinion and I always ask: what are the things you don't like about the song. When I receive his feedback, I make some adjustments.  Sometimes I send my tracks to Yves-V (depending on the genre). But I hope after all those years, to be experienced enough to hear what works and what doesn't. The crowd reactions are very important, but, I simply produce the sound that I want to hear myself, sometimes that is EDM, Trap, Freestyle, Techno or Trance, sometimes even Hardcore. I understand that this makes it difficult for me to perform as a DJ, because you can't simply put me in a box and I love so many genres of music that being different comes almost naturally. But I have always followed my own passion, very determined, and sometimes people dig that shit.

Dimitris: Please describe to us the studio that you have produced the track? What is your favourite hardware and software set up? Do you have in mind any new gear that you wish to get in order to raise the quality of your production?

Marty 'N Rizzo: I have my own studio, filled with Vicoustic panels all around. The main part of my studio is my PC. My genelec monitors. UAD audio interface and a whole collection of VSTI plugins, samples. I still have some hardware synths like for example the Virus TI snow and Virus C, Novation A and D station, but I hardly use them.

Dimitris: Do you master the track yourself or the mastering is task for the record label? Do you understand mastering as being essential?

Marty 'N Rizzo: Mastering is essential for a release. But in my opinion it isn't essential when you send out a demo. Mastering will make the whole mix sound louder and jump out. Or it can add extra warmth or a certain thing you are looking for. But it will not fix the quality of your mix. If the mix is bad, mastering will not fix it. That is something you need to do yourself.

Dimitris: There is a growing trend of vinyl coming back for good. Would you like to see this track released on vinyl or any other of your future tracks? Do you prefer digital files or vinyl?

Marty 'N Rizzo: Back in the day I started playing on vinyl, so yes. I love it. I have released a dozen of tracks on vinyl and I would love to see my future tracks released on vinyl again. Since I'm focusing on Techno these days, it might be possible.

Dimitris: Do you have any future releases planned and when will be released?

Marty 'N Rizzo: At the moment I have one House track ready for release in April next year. And I have 4 Techno tracks ready for mastering.

Dimitris: Can you recall your Top 3 best DJ gigs so far and the reasons that made them so special?

Marty 'N Rizzo: 1. City Parade Bergen / Mons in 2007 (Belgium). I played a 3 hour set on the Q-dance truck.
2. Bassleader in 2010 (Belgium). My first live act ever.
3. Club Masia in 2016 (Spain). Insane crowd.

Dimitris: Do you have any more DJ gigs planned for the next few months? If yes please note them down here.

Marty 'N Rizzo: No, no bookings confirmed. Feel free to contact me. ;)

Dimitris: Do you produce a radio show/podcast as well? Please tell us here all the details about it. If you don't have one please tell us why you don't think is important for your career.

Marty 'N Rizzo: No, I don't. Sometimes I make a mix for a radio station or podcast. I simply don't have the time to have my own show. But if people are interested in a producer with his own show or podcast, feel free to let me know. Sometimes I do a live stream from my studio on facebook so people can see what I'm doing in there.

Dimitris: Best piece of advice you got in relation to your career so far and best tip you learnt recently to make your tracks better.

Marty 'N Rizzo: Always trust your ears. If it sounds good, it's good.

Dimitris: Please give us here your tips or more elaborated advice for any new artists who may read this interview and wish to get involved with the electronic music industry.

Marty 'N Rizzo: Always follow your dream. I you have a dream, don't let anyone take that dream away. Focus, and work your ass off in the studio. I have sacrificed a lot of time that I could have spend with friends or family but instead I choose to work in the studio on new music. Good luck with chasing your dreams!

Thanks so much Marty 'N Rizzo for his very inspiring answers. Good luck for 2019!

“purveyor of deep, captivating melodic infectious electronic music”

That’s how Beyond Vision a.k.a Colin Govender from South Africa describes himself as an electronic music producer and DJ. Beyond Vision also producers different styles of music under the alias P.C.G and Euphoric Soul. While music has always been his passion, it was through his curiosity about the music software “FRUITY LOOPS” that ignited a spark of interest in music production setting his music making skills ablaze. He was producing music for only six months when a track was born – ‘a demo was sent to Derek the Bandit, a DJ who bossed the South African dance show on National Radio station ’5fm’. The track was aired 3 weeks in a row. Since then other tracks have featured on radio as well as podcasts worldwide. Beyond Vision has six tracks that features on the South African dance compilation called “Electronically Connected”. With expanded vision, Beyond Vision has forged links with many top Artists worldwide, with releases on various labels. Today Beyond Vision not only creates captivating music but he also sets dance floors on fire with his DJing skills.

10) Best online social media for 2018 and why you believe is the best particularly in 2018?:

Beyond Vision: Instagram. It's really cool cos people post random everyday stuff and you also get to see things they love and enjoy!

Beyond Vision: ASOT, I think Armin and his team are doing a good job in making Thursday's fun for Trance fans around the world! I'm going to give it a 8 out of 10, we just need more music played outside of the Armada label on he show to take it to the next Level!

Dimitris: Do you have a radio show or vlog? Have you produced any YouTube tutorials for fellow artists to learn from you? If yes please tell us here the details and choose the best episode from your radio show/vlog/YouTube tutorial for 2018.

Beyond Vision: None, I'm hoping in 2019, Producers start exploring more!

17) Best technical tips that you learnt in 2018 in relation to your DJing or music productions:

Beyond Vision: Don't Over Compress and there is no need to use compression on every single in your production. Use EQ to resolve many issues in the mixdown!

Dimitris: In 2018 the electronic music talent AVICII died and this has alerted several artists to become more health conscious. Are there any lessons to learn as an artist out from this sad event?

Beyond Vision: Yes, There is many people who will help you on your journey, Never let anyone control you and as an individual, always be in control of your life. If something is not right, don't do it to make someone happy while making yourself unhappy. Avicii was a great guy and he just let people around him dominate him and the world has lost a great talent way too early!

Dimitris: In 2018 there was a big movement for revival of classic tracks and retro events have boomed with music policy of solely classic tracks. What is your opinion about events or stages only with classics and can you choose for us your absolute 3 favourite classics?

Beyond Vision: I think classics is great and I love them cos music was written with more emotion for me compared to nowadays music but what I find sad is classic DJ's are getting bookings and a lot of young up and coming talent is getting no recognition at Trance Events and this for me is killing the scene slowly hence trance is growing at such a slow rate!

Dimitris: Can you mention briefly your plans for your future releases, tracks, albums, collaborations, DJ gigs for 2019!

Beyond Vision: I don't want to say too much, Just remember the name "BEYOND VISION" as I will try my best to make 2019 the biggest yet. I have a vocal track and may originals and a few collaborations in the pipeline!

Dimitris: Finally, what is your biggest wish for 2019 and give us your wishes for our readers?

Beyond Vision: I just hope the old guard can start stepping down a bit and help groom and letting more new talent in! Trance needs a next generation!

Thanks so much to Beyond Vision for his answers. Thanks to Justin at High Contrast /Be Yourself Music for organising this interview.
