Scottish producer Grum returns to Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats imprint, alongside legendary singer/songwriter Amba Shepherd for their new collaboration ‘Slow Motion’.
A prolific progressive house producer and longtime Anjuna roster act, Grum releases his first song on the label in over four years. First joining the label in 2015 with his ‘Trine EP’ Grum quickly grew to a respected name in the scene. He shared stages around the world with Above & Beyond as one of their frequent direct support acts and his music has routinely been supported by; Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, CamelPhat, MK & more.
‘Slow Motion’ is Grum’s hyped return, teased by Above & Beyond at their recent shows in South America as well as the trio’s upcoming shows at EDC Las Vegas, their Australian tour and on further dates through North America. Grum has also road tested the track himself over 2025 and early 2026 at his show across the United States.
Grum & Amba Shepherd ‘Slow Motion’ is out now on Anjunabeats.
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Grum & Amba Shepherd’s collaboration “Slow Motion” represents a masterful return to Anjunabeats, delivering a 132 BPM progressive trance experience that fuses melodic techno and progressive house elements into a cohesive sonic journey. The track’s rhythm and groove are immediately captivating, with its dirty moody basslines and chunky kicks providing a firm foundation that propels the record forward. The bouncy percussion and tightly locked drive ensure a kinetic energy that translates seamlessly to club and festival environments, where synchronization and BPM consistency are crucial for DJs. Each drop, build-up, and transition is sculpted with precision, allowing the energy flow to rise and fall in a way that maintains momentum while offering moments of euphoric release. The production is equally remarkable for its melodic hooks and harmonic layers; Grum’s synth work pairs lush, cinematic strings with expansive leads, while subtle harmonics and pads create a sense of depth and immersion. Amba Shepherd’s vocal performance sits perfectly atop the mix, her ethereal tone carrying emotional resonance that complements the instrumental storytelling. The arrangement is original yet highly functional, with clear intro and outro structures for DJ use, well-placed cue points, and loop-friendly segments that make it adaptable for live sets. Spatial design and the use of effects are evident in the careful panning, reverbs, and delay trails that give the mix a three-dimensional feel, while the dynamic range strikes an optimal balance between loudness and clarity, ensuring that the track maintains its impact without fatigue. From a wellness and mental health perspective, “Slow Motion” offers measurable benefits that align with research into music’s effect on human physiology and psychology. Studies, such as those published in Frontiers in Psychology (Chanda & Levitin, 2013), highlight how rhythmic and melodic music can reduce stress by modulating cortisol levels and increasing dopamine release. The track’s hypnotic pulse and uplifting harmonic structure make it an ideal accompaniment for fitness classes and flow-based workouts, enhancing motivation through entrainment of heart rate and movement. In group wellness settings like yoga or meditation-infused dance classes, the track’s immersive atmosphere and emotional storytelling can foster a sense of shared presence and mental clarity, as supported by research in Music & Science (Fancourt & Finn, 2019). Its uplifting qualities and replay value may also contribute to improved mood, cognitive focus, and post-exercise recovery. In live performance scenarios, “Slow Motion” has demonstrated strong crowd reaction potential, tested extensively by Grum across U.S. shows in 2025–2026 and supported by Above & Beyond in key festival appearances. Its dynamic energy and cohesive narrative make it a genuine peak-time selection, and its creativity and artistic identity reinforce Grum and Amba Shepherd’s reputations as forward-thinking contributors to the progressive trance landscape. By achieving excellence in sound design, emotional connection, and structural originality, the track not only performs exceptionally across all production and DJ criteria but also offers a scientifically supported positive impact on listeners’ mental and physical well-being.#PureGold Loveit [/content]
Through tracks like ‘Higher State’ and even more recently, ‘Never Leave U’ and ‘Homelands’, Deep State label boss Grum has been affecting a return to his musical roots of late. Following that natural progression, the DJ/producer has revisited one of the tracks that drew him into the electronic music space in the first instance. To round out a truly flaming June, the Scot has given BT’s immortal ‘Godspeed’ a dazzlingly layered and sonically rich reimagining. Spooling up the sub-bass and breakbeats, Grum begins to tease the floor with BT’s celestially haunting, female harmonies. Through echoing melodies and coastal atmospherics, he gives his rework an aerodynamic structure — tight, pulsing, and technologically intricate, yet one that’s every bit as much emotional and yearning. The restless rhythms of his breaks play off against shimmering digital textures, as its soaring tones deliver an anthemic hail to summers past … and future.
Everyone should have a ‘first time I heard ‘Godspeed’ story. Grum would love this will be yours! Find it here, and wherever quality music is sold or streamed.
[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Grum’s reimagining of BT’s timeless ‘Godspeed’ stands as a testament to both technical prowess and emotive resonance in electronic music production. Delving deep into the arrangement, Grum employs a meticulous layering approach, beginning with a robust foundation of sub-bass. This element isn’t just present to enhance low-end frequencies; it interacts dynamically with the breakbeat patterns, creating a compelling rhythmic structure that anchors the track. The breakbeats themselves are crafted with precision, featuring crisp snares, syncopated hi-hats, and subtle percussive fills that inject energy while maintaining a balanced flow. Grum’s choice to retain BT’s ethereal, female vocal harmonies adds a haunting, celestial quality. These harmonics are treated with reverb and delay effects, creating an expansive, atmospheric depth that contrasts beautifully with the track’s tighter rhythmic elements. Melodically, Grum introduces echoing synth lines that ripple across the sonic landscape, underpinned by coastal atmospherics that evoke imagery of vast, open spaces. This not only gives the track an aerodynamic structure but also adds an emotional dimension, blending technological intricacy with heartfelt yearning. The synth textures are meticulously sculpted using modulation techniques, filter sweeps, and automation that evolve throughout the track, ensuring continuous movement and interest. In terms of production values, Grum’s rework shines through its high-definition sound design. The mix is clean and spacious, with each element occupying its own frequency range, allowing clarity and punch. The dynamics are carefully controlled, with strategic use of compression to maintain energy without sacrificing the natural ebb and flow of the arrangement. The climax of the track is a masterclass in tension and release. Grum navigates the build-up with rising synth arpeggios, subtle pitch shifts, and escalating percussive intensity, culminating in a euphoric drop that feels both inevitable and exhilarating. This superb climax serves as a powerful nod to summers past and future, encapsulating the nostalgic yet forward-looking spirit of the piece. Ultimately, Grum’s rendition of ‘Godspeed’ is more than just a remix—it’s a reimagined journey through sound, showcasing his ability to blend technical sophistication with emotional storytelling. #PureGold indeed. #LoveIT [/content]

Anjunabeats stalwart Graeme Shepherd, aka Grum, releases the remix package of his fourth artist album, ‘Unreality’. Out now.
'Unreality (The Remixes)' features a brand new remix of ‘Be The Horizon’ from Fehrplay, as well as previously released reworks of 'Don't Look Down' and 'Come Alive' from Grafix, Einmusik and Tommy Farrow. Fehrplay has rapidly risen through the ranks of the Progressive House scene in recent years. He’s also graced the cover of DJ Mag and received widespread support on BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM.
Released in June 2022, ‘Unreality’ is Grum's most reflective work to date, putting human connection in the digital age under the microscope. A story in two halves, the album is introspective, ideas-driven and song-heavy, holding a mirror to Graeme’s own emotional journey over the last two years. Tracks from the album took centre stage during Grum's Group Therapy 500 set at Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles, which can be viewed now on Above & Beyond's YouTube channel. The second single from 'Unreality', 'Don't Look Down' is a reunion with UK singer-songwriter Natalie Shay, who voiced 'Stay' and 'Afterglow' on Grum's 2019 LP 'Deep State'.
"I had so much fun making this remix. I wanted to centre it around the amazing vocals from Able, and make a stripped down journey out of it." - Fehrplay
“I loved working on this remix. I really wanted to keep the nostalgic vibe of the original but bring it in line with current dancefloor drum & bass - I’ve been playing it for the last few months in my sets and the reaction has been amazing!” - Grafix
“When I listened to 'Come Alive' for the first time in my studio I instantly felt the energy between the chord progression and the vocal harmonies. During the remix session I tried to keep this strength and give it the typical Einmusik signature on top.” - Einmusik
“I wanted this remix to be a big room club record with a driving bassline and a bright trance-like lead - Sarah's vocals in particular were amazing to work with. I’m so excited to release this remix with Anjuna, they have an amazing following and the label is home to some of my favourite artists. I’m also a massive fan of Grum’s work, so I’m really excited to get this one out!” - Tommy Farrow
Grum recently completed a jam-packed tour across North America and Europe and topped off the year by collaborating with Tigerblind on ‘Shout’. Their club anthem climbed to no.2 in the Beatport Progressive House chart, racked up over 300,000 streams on Spotify, and received repeated spins from the likes of Danny Howard, Camelphat, Solardo, FISHER and Above & Beyond.
Grum's 'Unreality' album is shipping now on black vinyl from the Anjuna Music Store.
'Unreality (The Remixes)' is out now on Anjunabeats.
If you’ve been on the festival circuit this summer, you’ve probably heard Grum x Tigerblind’s ‘Shout’. It’s impossible to miss it – Danny Howard can’t stop spinning it and neither can Camelphat, Solardo, FISHER or Above & Beyond. The progressive, 80’s throw-back has lit up festivals around the world this summer, from Tomorrowland to Burning Man to Creamfields, and on November 2 it’s finally being released on Anjunabeats. Grum announced the single during his set at ABGT500 at Los Angeles’ Banc of California Stadium in front of 20,000 fans, with thousands tuned in online via YouTube or Twitch.
Grum originally wrote the track in 2017, sampling the classic Tears For Fears song. Tigerblind planned to make their own edit of the song, but when they came across Grum’s version, they decided to re-work that instead. The result is magical, with the mixture of old and new doubling up as a progressive house classic and categorical crowd-pleaser.
Grum and Tigerblind make quite the dream team. Grum’s known as one of the most innovative progressive house and trance producers on the planet. His atmospheric tracks are influenced by the dark, explorative sounds of Depeche Mode, New Order and Tears For Fears, which is why ‘Shout’ was such a joy for him to produce. Grum has been an integral part of the Anjunabeats family over the last decade, and has over 315k monthly listeners on Spotify and several Beatport number 1s, including his 2019 track ‘The Light’ with Genix which stayed at the top spot for two weeks. Grum’s 2019 album Deep State won critical acclaim from DJ Mag and Dancing Astronaut and his heavy tour schedule has taken him to Tomorrowland, Ultra and Creamfields plus countless clubs across Europe and North America. His latest album Unreality came out on Anjunabeats in summer 2022 which set his streams, fan-base and reputation alight.
And equally, there’s no stopping Tigerblind. The production duo recently supported Camelphat on their Dark Matter UK tour. BBC Radio 1’s Danny Howard is an effusive fan – he’s supported all of their releases to date. Fellow R1 stalwarts Pete Tong, Sarah Story, and Jaguar regularly spin the pair’s tracks, not to mention Tiësto, Diplo and many more. Seeing as Tigerblind have been releasing music for less than two years, it’s fair to say the duo’s future looks very bright.
Grum says: “Already heavily supported by Camelphat, Danny Howard, Solardo and more, Tigerblind have created a classy update to 'Shout' for 2022 - a song which feels even more relevant to the times we find ourselves in now.”
Tigerblind says: “Being big fans of the original, and the vocal being one of our all time favourite records, we thought back in 2019 to make our own edit. It was actually made in the back room of an old nightclub as we were ‘studio surfing’ at the time before finding a permanent home. We sent it out to a few DJs but nothing came of it due to the pandemic and then out of nowhere this summer it started to grow legs being played across some of the biggest festivals and venues from Creamfields to Ushuaia. It’s been unbelievable to see how much support it’s had and grown from a personal edit to a full release!”

"This is about remembering our humanity, which perhaps we lost a little bit over the last couple of years - maybe we can get a bit of it back in the dark, under some strobe lights."
There's a considered and conscientious edge to every record that comes from the studio of Graeme Shepherd, a.k.a. Grum. Strip away the club exterior and you will find a nuanced, sometimes provocative, message that asks us to challenge our outlook on the world.
'Unreality', Grum's fourth studio album, is his most reflective work to date, putting human connection in the digital age under the microscope.
"Based near Glasgow, Scotland where I had to spend a lot of time by myself. I watched, alone, as world events unfolded and I think that has funnelled itself into the music somewhat."
The visceral nature of Graeme's work has been present since his debut LP 'Heartbeats'. A feel good, get up and dance record championed by Annie Mac and Pete Tong in the early 2010s, Grum was a product of the blog era, riding the heights of Hype Machine with his synth heavy sound.
As he pivoted towards the dance floor, both his sound, and the stories he wanted to tell, became more daring.
'Shout', his cover of the Tears For Fears classic, was a prog house protest anthem that foreshadowed 2019's 'Deep State' LP - an underground epic with an undercurrent of discontent, evident in the acid-tinged 'Stay', Depeche Mode-esque 'Lose Control' or hypnotic 'Altered State'.
The world of Deep State has grown. Today, it's the name of Grum's independent record label, and is a home for the heads down, club-orientated music that Graeme spins in his live sets. The Deep State sound can be heard from the intimate corners of fabric in London, to the grandiose festival stages of Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Electric Daisy Carnival and Dreamstate where Grum's imprint hosted its first label stage in 2021. Able to join the dots between Rüfüs Du Sol, Armin and Kolsch, it's easy to see why Above & Beyond describe him as a dream act to play with.
It's on those dance floors where 'Unreality' comes into its own. A story in two halves, the album is introspective, ideas-driven and song heavy, holding a mirror to Graeme's own emotional journey over the last two years.
"The first half mostly came about in the summer of 2020. With all that time on my hands, and as a form of therapy, I started rediscovering a lot of 80s music I loved and hadn't listened to for a long time. This turned into doing special 80s livestreams to connect with my fans. There is definitely a bit of longing here for simpler and happier times."
There's an undeniable festival feeling to 'Don't Look Down' and 'Taking Over Me', written alongside regular collaborator Natalie Shay, a rising star of the U.K. indie-pop scene. 'Faded Memory' and 'Come Alive', both featuring Sarah Appel, are a synth-heavy shot of adrenalin, channelling the glossy optimism of 1980s pop in a punchy contemporary production.
"The second half of the album has a darker, apocalypse rave feel to it"; 'Last Light' providing the cinematic, sun setting transition between day and night on the album.
Here, another recognisable voice, Dom Youdan, enters the fold. Having previously worked with Grum on singles 'Tomorrow' and 'Invisible', there's a tangible yearning for deeper human connection in 'Bring The Horizon' and 'Virtual Companion'. Lead single 'Disconnected', featuring Daniel Sealine, is designed for the darkest corners of a club; techno infused helter-skelter ride with Daniel's vocal bursting out of the shadows.
We close with a moment of hope in 'Look To The Light', Graeme's first vocal performance on a record, and the introspective acceptance of 'Our Cosmic Insignificance'.
A versatile producer with remix credits for Lost Frequencies, Basement Jaxx, Benny Benassi and Chicane under his belt, Kryteria Records owner Kryder is our latest addition to the Anjunafamily, delivering a powerhouse rework of Grum’s ‘Afterglow’.

Two artists setting the agenda for the progressive house scene, Grum (Graeme Shepherd) and Fehrplay (Jonas von der Fehr) combine for the first time with ‘Spirit’, forthcoming on Anjunabeats.
A melting pot of classic progressive riffs, brooding techno bass and head-down trance energy, ‘Spirit’ comes off the back of Grum’s Anjunabeats Worldwide 07 tour, which saw Graeme and Jonas hit the road together throughout 2017. Living up to vigour and verve of the title, ‘Spirit’ provides a bracing dance floor moment.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Collaborations can be successful and can be of course a missed opportunity too. In our case when Grum & Fehrplay met in their studio to co-produce the track Spirit they combined successfully their qualities and deliver an outstanding anthem that will be an excellent asset and secret weapon for many jocks. It starts all slowly and groovy while the punchy drums and deep pulsating basslines are pushing the matters forward to the great breakdown where the main melody is introduced. It certainly reminds us melodies coming from the Bonzai camp with even hints of Universal Nation in my humble opinion. The climax is destined to carry the listener as higher at it can with slightly distorted dirty electro synthy riff, so be ready to reach the stars and let those cyber dreams become the haunting reality. #PureGold Love IT[/content]
Following on from the success of the full album release, the second sampler from Grum’s ‘Anjunabeats Worldwide 07’ showcases a selection of his own contributions to the compilation.
This sampler contains three impressively enigmatic trance tracks from the Scottish producer. “We Are One” brings Chris Sevier’s hypnotic vocals to this bass-led package, while “Inflight” and “Worldwide Intro” bring futuristic and industrial elements that perfectly represent the characteristic style Grum has cultivated over his past Anjunabeats releases.
