For the fourth year ADE's Companies 2 Watch competition will zoom in on the best new ideas and innovations, related to the music industry.

Does your company innovate on the cutting edge of music / live and technology? With C2W ADE is issuing an open invitation to all innovative companies - from startups to established organizations - to submit their ideas in order to have a chance of winning a spot in the finals on the main stage of the DeLaMar Theater during ADE Tech on Thursday, October 17th.

The winner of C2W will be monitored, supported and promoted for an entire year up until the ADE 2020 edition. ADE will be following the winner's every step, as well as sharing their story with electronic music fans and music professionals around the world.

Last year's winning company was Amuse, which was founded in 2015 by music executives with a collective ambition to re-imagine how artists break through and how labels are run. Amuse built a record label on top of a music distributor, offering free music distribution to everyone, where artists keep 100% of their royalties while still owning all of their rights. With the help of a user-friendly and transparent interface, artists can track their progress daily and see how people listen and download.

Submit your ideas
ADE is looking for projects in the fields of technology, data, hardware and software that the developers believe can make a genuine difference to the future of the music and entertainment industries. The initial pitch should not be longer than 200 words, giving a clear outline of the project and what it is intended to achieve. New business models are also eligible to enter but must have demonstrable relevance to an existing industry sector.

ADE is looking forward to receiving your ideas with the subject title "Submission C2W" at adetech@amsterdam-dance-event.nl before August 10th.

A selection of innovative technologies that will define next level design and fan experiences for festivals and live acts are to be showcased during ADE TECH on Thursday October 17th.

Designing the future fan experience is an in-depth panel discussion between three design studios, all of them working with some of the biggest festivals and live acts.

The panellists will be drawing on their years of experience to judge what works best for events and fans, and in the process reveal what the future of live fan engagement is likely to look like. In order to get the maximum impact and relevance from the situation, Stephen Lieberman (SJ Lighting), Heather Shaw (Vita Motus) and Sander Reneman (250K), will present five innovations that they believe could have a significant impact on stage design in the years ahead.

Having worked with clients such as Coachella, Shakira, EDC, Kendrick Lamar, Lollapalooza, Afrojack, Electric Love Festival and Armin van Buuren, the participating panelists are perfectly placed to present a showcase that accurately reflects the future, leveraging their vast accumulated knowledge and years of expertise to build a comprehensive picture of the future fan experience.

Time for this session to be announced.

This year's ADE Tech, produced in partnership with Paylogic and in co-operation with Paradiso, focuses on the new music technologies and much more. The highlights of the upcoming panels to be held at this year's ADE Tech that showcase the combined future of music and technology are as follows:

Companies to Watch (C2W)
ADE Tech kicks off the day with Companies 2 Watch, including the five companies chosen after a preliminary round at the Paradiso in August. The speakers to represent their company are Albert Gruber and Bernhard Famler of Seeqnc, Diego Farais of Amuse, Joe Lyske of MXX, Jonas Norberg of Pacemaker and Midas Kwant of WE:FM. More info about the first two finalists can be found here and about the second batch of finalists here. This second session will start with a short film of the first round pitches, followed by the best five companies attempting to prove their relevance. The judges include representatives of the tech sector, venture capitalists plus last year’s winner Muzooka. The audience will also get the chance to vote for its favourite pitch.

New Services for Artists - The Freshest New Start-Ups
During this panel, ADE Tech will be reinforcing its commitment to reveal the best new tech as AFEM board member and advisor Matthew Adell will be showcasing his personal favourites. These include social marketing platform Toneden, Songtrust’s services for songwriters and a brand new chatbot service for music makers from Dialect.ai.

Innovation and Social Media
Polo Molina, manager of will.i.am, venture capitalist and social pioneer will be present alongside Shaw Miseyko of Big Beat Records, discussing how artists truly engage with fans through technology these days. Key players from the live entertainment industry will be looking at the innovative relationship between music and social media, covering strategy, successes, and lessons learned across multiple platforms.

How To Change the Game in Electronic Music
The new tech theme continues with a panel in which the Association For Electronic Music brings together five thought leaders in music tech to share their personal insights on the game-changing technology they love.

The Future of Music Instruments
DJ and futurologist Juan Atkins will be featured as well as Eric Wahlforss of Soundcloud, Pedram Faghfouri of Traktor/Native Instruments, Elektron’s Simon Mattisson, and Chris Galvin of Metapop/sounds.com covering topics like project workflow, UI, third-party integration, what we might expect in the near future and even what is being lined up some distance beyond that.

Octave One - Unwrapped
In this panel, the burden brothers will be revealing the mixed bag of high and low tech instruments that they have collected over the years, how they create synergies with each other to get the best from their equipment, and how they choose which new technologies to adopt. On top of that, they will be discussing how technology has played a role in enabling their career and in unwrapping their innate musical and creative abilities.

Digital Realities Keynote - How Safe Are We?
Ralph Echemendia a.k.a. The Ethical Hacker will be taking an in-depth and objective look at the realities of cybersecurity. He will also be tackling widespread worries about the speed of deployment of artificial intelligence, the internet of things and mediated reality, all of which are presented as evolutions that will help society, but that also create vulnerabilities, such as not being able to protect our privacy and other valuable data.

The Evolution of Online Music Consumption
This panel examines how the electronic dance community continues to evolve in order to meet the changing needs of artists. Topics like what can streaming platforms do for the artists, how can artists and labels work more closely with streaming services to create benefits for both sides and in what direction the industry is heading will be answered.

Laidback Luke Goes Back to the Future
Laidback Luke revisits his vinyl-only early days, then creates a timeline based around the technology that he used as it became available, recounting how it changed his performances as well as what it enabled him to do compared to previous tech and how that affected his relationship with the crowd.

Your Live Performance Royalties Are Waiting For You
Finally, last year’s C2W winner, Shawn Wilson, Ashley Howard of PRS for Music, AFEM’s Greg Marshall, Rick van Teylingen of Buma/Stemra and Marc Azais of SACEM, examine why many artists leave their part of live performance royalties unclaimed. Our panel of industry experts will discuss the realities of this huge pool of money and the ways that artists can collect their share of it.

Paylogic will host an informal drink in the Kopstootbar - across the street of the DeLaMar Tbuilheater - starting at 5.30 PM

The Detroit legends will be opening up about their love of technology, their vast collection of instruments and its role in their lives, while the Dutch Laidback Luke will be looking at his career from the beginning and examining how technology changed him and his performances.

ADE Tech, organized in partnership with Paylogic and in association with Paradiso, will once again be taking place on Thursday in the DeLaMar Theater. It features cutting-edge music technology alongside some of the tech scene's original thinkers and start-ups in Companies 2 Watch.

Firstly, ADE Tech welcomes Polo Molina, a capitalist and investor who also manages the Black Eyed Peas, will.i.am, Afrojack, Tyga, Snow Tha Product, and many more through his company Grassroots Music. He will describe how he uses the lessons from his early life and his experiences in the music world to help the low-income areas of Los Angeles, while also revealing how he makes decisions about investing in start-ups. Secondly, Octave One will be demonstrating the mix of high and low tech that drives their live sets, as well as offering insights into how they interact with each other and their array of instruments, Octave One - Unwrapped. The duo has been active as speakers before, as they were panel members of MusicTalks at ADE Sound Lab 2016. This year's ADE they will perform at Dave Clark Presents on Friday, October 19th.

Following a first round of Companies 2 Watch in the Paradiso on August 22nd, five companies were chosen to go forward to the final round in the DeLaMar during ADE Tech. This time their job is to inform the audience and our panel of experts why their idea will have a genuine and lasting impact on the music industry or on musicians and why it is relevant to the industry of today. With that, board member Matt Adell will be presenting his pick of the companies and start-ups that he believes will provide the most useful and game-changing services for artists. Muzooka, who won the previous iteration of the start-up competition 10C2W last year, will be featured in Your Live Performance Royalties Are Waiting For You alongside several collecting societies.

On Thursday, Laidback Luke will be revisiting his early days as a vinyl-only DJ and then creating a timeline based around the technology that he used as it became available, recounting how it changed his performances as well as what it enabled him to do compared to previous tech and how that affected the crowd. This all in the session Laidback Luke Goes Back to the Future.

Finally, there will also be a treat for audiophiles in the form of a demonstration of the power and depth of the new Dolby 3D Atmos Sound System, which is based on the units deployed in cinemas and theatres around the world. The Association For Electronic Music (AFEM) will be presenting How To Change the Game in Electronic Music, moderated by DJ John Aquaviva and featuring tech companies. The panel will offer a view of the technology that could help transform businesses now and in the future.

This year's edition will feature the realms of sustainability, copyright & music licensing and 30 years of dance music.

The third edition of ADE's innovation pressure cooker ADE Hackathon will take place on ADE Friday -right in the centre of the conference area around Leidseplein- and ADE team is now looking for a great mix between music, technology, data, entrepreneurship and innovation from creative minds.

ADE, DGTL and the Tech & Dance Collective are working together to provide smart developers, designers and entrepreneurs with a platform to think about the challenges that are faced by the dance and festival scene, but also to think about the opportunities that data and technology provide. The ADE Hackathon -co-hosted by Bynder & Label A. -believes that by bringing together different kinds of people, skills and organizations we are able to create an environment in which new ideas and collaborations are born and brought a step closer to realization.

ADE Hackathon 2017 - Aftermovie from Tech & Dance Collective on Vimeo.

After a successful debut in 2016 and a strong second edition last year, this year ADE team is looking for concepts in the areas below:

Copyright, music licensing and compensation
With the rise of the big streaming services and technologies like blockchain, copyright and distribution of earnings are a hot topic. But how is the distraction of the earnings within electronic music currently done and what can be improved in the current process? The ways of distributing royalties have been around for a while, but are becoming more and more of a discussion topic. This is especially the case within the dance industry where a lot of royalties of music played at live events is distributed in a very traditional way. The technology and data are there, but how should we structure this?

Sustainability
Festivals are a great example of temporarily small cities that can help actual cities achieve the same successes. DGTL wants to become the first circular festival in 2020, This is an ambitious goal, but they’re on the right track and set an example as a pioneer in the festival landscape. Last year DGTL visitors produced only 1/7th of the waste they would produce at other festival. All cups were reused, the foodcourts sold no meat, all the waste from foodcourts was collected and turned into compost, and they even did tests with turning urine back into drinkable water.

DGTL has a lot of data for you. Not only bar performance, payment info and other visitor related data via the RFID wristbands. They have produced a material flow index, where literally all the materials that are used, re-used, recycle and incinerated are explained. Can you help us use this data to help DGTL become even more sustainable: create better insights and stimulate festival visitors to become more sustainable themselves?

30 years of dance music
2018 marks the year that ADE celebrates 30 years of electronic music. How did we get here, and where are we going? Insights in the past and present can be very useful for the future. What parts of the world are still to be conquered by electronic music and where can we find the new artists, genres and initiatives in dance? Let’s look at our past to identify opportunities for the future. Electronic music is for everybody, so let’s see how we can contribute achieving this goal.

Who can join? A great hackathon team consists of a developer, designer, creative mind and a business person. We will kick off the ADE Hackathon with an introduction of each topic by someone who knows all the ins and outs and we'll make sure you will have enough experts around to provide you with relevant feedback. Altogether you can generate and produce ideas that really match with the needs there are in the dance and event industry.

So, got a great idea and thinking about applying? We’ll make sure you get connected to your new team mates. We have a limited number of seats, so don’t wait too long and sign up here

Blockchanging the Entertainment Industry
Blockchanging the Entertainment Industry features a group of globally recognised blockchain experts discussing exactly how and why this rapidly emerging and much talked about technology is likely to play a major role in the transactional future of businesses. Predictive analysis is the focus in Man vs Machine when Hitwizard, designed by Goldmund Wyldebeast & Wunderliebe, attempts to show that it can accurately predict which tracks are likely to appear in the Spotify top 200.

IBM's Watson Beat & Spinnin'
There will also be another star-attraction software appearance when IBM Research’s Watson Beat is joined by guests from Spinnin’ Records in The Acceptance Of Artificial Intelligence. The audience will be played two different samples, one of which was composed by AI and the other by a human being. But will they be able to tell the difference? The panelists will also be revealing how Watson Beat was developed, and how far AI can be integrated into the creative lives of music industry professionals, plus how relevant the technology really is and what it will be able to achieve in the coming years.
