REVIEW: Croquet Club - Love Exposure out on Anjunadeep

Croquet Club announces ‘Love Exposure’ mini-album coming this summer on Anjunadeep. First three singles ‘Careless Love’, ‘You Left Me’ and ’Summer' available now as instant grat downloads on iTunes, and to stream on all platforms.

Jeremy Villecourt holding the vinyl format of his EP
Frenchman Jeremy Villecourt aka Croquet Club has become an Anjunadeep fan favourite over the past two years with his unique brand of delicate downtempo electronica. With support from international tastemakers like Zane Lowe, Jason Bentley and Rob Da Bank under his belt, and coverage from The Line Of Best Fit, Mixmag and Indie Shuffle, Croquet Club now returns with his most expansive project to date – ‘Love Exposure’.

Following in the footsteps of legendary French acts like Air, Sebastian Tellier and Etienne De Crecy (who featured Croquet Club’s ‘Jacuzzi’ in his latest BBC Essential Mix), the six track mini-album sees Jeremy showcase his quirky style in true gallic fashion.

The blissful beatlessness of ‘Andante’ ushers us into Villecourt’s musical world, before his own vocals appear in the soulful ‘Careless Love’. ‘Summer’ is a joyous slice of dancefloor fun, melodic basslines bouncing beneath wistful vocals.

‘Go Slow’ will be familiar to Anjunadeep regulars after it’s appearance on the iTunes #1 Dance album ‘Anjunadeep 07’ recently – an intricate fusion of soft piano and rolling groove. Jeremy’s vocals take centre stage in 'Eternité' where his breathy lyrics, sung in French, loop hypnotically above bubbling atmospherics, before ‘You Left Me’ ends things on a beautifully contemplative note.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"] Croquet Club presents the truly beautiful Love Exposure EP that consists of 6 great tracks that will please your ears and elevate your senses. First of all is the chill out Andante that consists of beautiful synthy layers and cool little piano melody, distorted vocal snippets and sensual female vocals. Its fantastic intro that creates brilliant atmosphere and sets the scenery for the rest of the tracks. Careless Love is a funky electronic number with French disco basslines, mesmerising whispering vocals, cinematic strings and slow lazy calming groove that carry you away to Careless Love moments with soulful Motown music touch. Summer is the upbeat feel good moment of the EP with very eurodance 90's groove while on top percussion melodies and great vocals that cast a spell on you and stay somewhere in your heart for ever. This is the perfect mood changer that can give you that extra adrenaline rush you may need in a bad moody day. Go Slow comes next with very experimental intro that plays around with the Go Slow vocal sample, break beats and abstract melancholic piano chords. The beat is slow and smooth with percussion melodies on top and sound design that adds the 3 dimensional feel as you experience so many different layers of sounds at once. Its an overwhelming refreshing sonic wave for sure. Eternité continues on that romantic nostalgic sound with great piano rhythms and French vocals that add that special unique taste to the package. Lastly You Left Me is based upon a slowing moving little breakbeat groove while on top a very vintage sounding cinematic piano melody travel your mind to black and white photos of your family album while on top are added some pitched vocal samples. This is definitely the soundtrack for the summer. #PureGold Love It[/content]
