⌨️ Key4050 - Final Memory out on Black Hole Recordings
It‘s been twenty cycles since John O’Callaghan and Bryan Kearney first stoked dancefloor fires together. Indeed, you’d have to rewind right the way to the fabled Discover Records label’s 14th to find ‘Restricted Motion’ - their year-one together. (A track, incidentally still so beloved, it was re-released on vinyl just last week!).
In 2015 the pair formed their shared vision up into an absolute unit of an act. Through its Key4050 tag and 2019’s monumental thirty-track-strong ‘Tales From The Temple’ LP, they paid titular homage to their years clubbing, producing and DJing in Dublin’s North Inner City.
‘Tales’ gave clubbers and music lovers plenty to chew on. But by the same token, that was seven years ago.
Time to go again then …
Having closed the Luminosity Beach Festival with a headlining set, the Kearney/O’Callaghan alliance formally announced Key4050’s return over the summer. Ahead of that, the pair had been midnight oil-ing it in the studio, with a new album rapidly taking shape around them. Coming off the back of their Bo Bruce collab opener, September sees the pair take aim with ‘Empty Space’s follow up.
Comfortably wrapped around Key4050’s artistic coil, ‘Final Memory’ finds John and Bryan rafter-raising across bass, mids and treble. Drum-gallop and storm-force bass lock in its relentless charge, while gulp-inducing harmonic progressions catalyse its momentum further. Add to that its enigmatically-lingering “I can’t help it” female vocal + a top-of-the-drop, saw-tooth-synth kiss-off and, well, you’ve got yourself a fully certified, primetime, send-‘em-home-with-a-smile floor-weapon.
‘Final Memory’ plants a big new way-marker in Key4050’s timeline. What comes after? Well, if those ‘Temple’ ‘Tales’ are anything to go by though, it’ll be worth hanging around to find out!

SUMMARY REVIEW
“Final Memory” by Key4050 is underground, high-octane club energy that effortlessly bridges the gap between nostalgic 1990s tech-trance and modern production perfection. The track, released on Black Hole Recordings, marks a monumental milestone in the twenty-cycle alliance of Irish electronic music titans John O’Callaghan and Bryan Kearney. What began as a progressive, acid-tinged demo in O’Callaghan’s studio evolved into an absolute monster of a track over a single summer weekend. Inspired by the energy of the Luminosity Beach Festival, Kearney reworked the arrangement into a relentless, peak-time weapon that ultimately served as the dramatic closing anthem for their headlining set, cementing its status as the second major single from their highly anticipated studio album.
Operating at a blistering pace of 138 BPM in the key of A Major, the track immediately commands attention with its complex, driving rhythm section. A powerful "drum-gallop" and storm-force sub-bassline form a devastatingly tight foundation, meticulously sidechained to a punchy, warehouse-ready kick drum. This engineering precision leaves ample headroom for the low-mid frequencies to breathe, preventing the mix from becoming muddy despite the high-velocity low-end. Layered over this rhythmic engine are raw, hypnotic acid lines and dark, tribal undertones that pay direct homage to the legendary late-1990s rave era, channeling the spirit of iconic venues like Dublin's historic Temple Theatre.
The centerpiece of the production lies in its brilliant manipulation of space, tension, and texture. An enigmatically lingering female vocal sample repeating the phrase "I can't help it" acts as a psychological hook, morphing from a dry, isolated element into an immersive, wide texture during the slow-filtering build-ups. Rather than relying on cheap drops, Key4050 utilizes sophisticated spatial design, introducing long, automated delay lines and expansive reverbs that pull the listener deep into the arrangement. The ultimate sonic payoff arrives at the top of the drop, where a signature, aggressive saw-tooth synth kiss-off slices through the mix with a biting high-mid resonance, raising rafters and ignuring dancefloors with pristine, full-spectrum instrument separation.
This technical brilliance has translated into a unanimous wave of acclaim across the global trance community, where fans on Reddit and label platforms have hailed it as pure gold. Attendees of its summer festival debut recall it as a futuristic, space-battle anthem that perfectly captures the uncompromised spirit of underground electronic music. Bedroom producers and club veterans alike have heavily praised the duo's sonic engineering, marveling at how they successfully modernized classic, old-school rave tropes without sacrificing dynamic range or falling into the trap of over-compression. Ultimately, "Final Memory" stands as a fully certified, primetime floor-weapon that honors the past while blazing a bold, state-of-the-art trail into the future of tech-trance.#PureGold #LoveIt
