VIDEO Interview with the techno music legend dj Dave Clarke at ADE 2012

The Amsterdam Dance Event is considered to be the most important and influential platform for Electronic Dance Music on global scale. For 5 days, the city of Amsterdam was the main stage for the most healthy, prosperous and creative industry in the world. EDM from the peripherals of the music industry during the past year became the focus point, as more mainstream pop or even rock artists craved for at least one dance remix of their latest track, in order to get the support of the superstar DJ’s. The future looks bright for EDM, and the Amsterdam Dance Event reflects, represents and influences the developments within the most vibrant and exciting industry to get involved in.

On Friday 19th of October, at the very well organised press room at Amsterdam Dance Event, I met the legend of the underground techno music movement, Dave Clarke for a great interview . Dave Clarke is a DJ, producer and radio host of the show ‘White Noise’. His contribution to the development of techno music is considered by many to have been extremely vital to its success, and he can be proud to have been a catalyst in the progress of the EDM industry too. So I was very excited to have the chance to talk with him, and get answers to some of the many questions that I would love to ask. He was very busy, not only because he was actively involved in various discussion panels at the conference, but also as he had to arrange the final details of his event at Melkweg venue in Amsterdam. Dave Clarke hosted his ‘Dave Clarke Presents’ showcase for the eighth consecutive year at ADE, with all previous seven editions having sold out also. Techno fans from around the globe headed to the Melkweg, collectively created an unbelievable atmosphere, and subconsciously were part of a “you had to be there” experience. Next to showcase ringmaster Dave Clarke, the Melkweg underwent performances by Chicago’s finest Green Velvet, house gangster DJ Sneak, the Detroit collective Octave One, Berlin based Marcel Fengler, Dutch leading tech lady Estroe, Clone Records artist Blawan and Dutch techno talent Roger Gerressen. To top it off, Clarke's production partner and fellow ‘Unsubscribe’ member, the Dutch Mr. Jones, received the honour of rocking the crowd with an extra half hour of straight-up techno until closing time.

Within the interview that you can watch right here, Dave Clarke tells us his opinion about ADE, and why he loves to actively take part in it. We ask him to tell us his feelings as an interviewer in his Tomorrowland after movie, and of course, he give us his opinion about Tomorrowland, and he even reveals that he will be at the festival next summer too. As he is one of the leaders in the techno scene, next question was about the future forms and shapes of techno music. On Saturday 20th of October he was the moderator at the ‘Demolition part XVI’, where amongst others such as Mauro Picotto and Laidback Luke, he was the judge of demos submitted during the conference. He tells us what this special panel is all about, and how this helps to give exposure to new talent in the scene. One of his most important activities is  his radio show ‘White Noise’, which is very influential and highly respected within the techno world. He explains why he considers this radio show to be like a platform/bulletin board for new talent. We ask him about his sold-out event at Melkweg, and we finish with his from-the-heart answer about the reasons he moved from Brighton to reside in Amsterdam. Dave Clarke talks, so the rest should be quite and listen. Enjoy this great interview.
