VIDEO Interview with dj & producer John O'Callaghan at Armada Night at ADE 2012

Five days of this year will be remembered for ever by those who were present at Amsterdam Dance Event 2012. The reason being that this great platform for Electronic Dance Music started its journey through the years as an industry based event. However, in 2012 ADE grew into a significant and highly influential cultural event, which coloured the days and nights of the cold but very welcoming city of Amsterdam with the virtues of EDM. Anyone could taste it either as part of a great discussions panel, University lecture and showcase of the latest DJ equipment with contests for new talent. A delicious menu that was cooked by fellow DJ’s, screening of documentaries with EDM related themes, and many more that too numerous to write about. At night ADE offered the coolest venues in and around Amsterdam city, club events representing a wide variety of music styles to satisfy the needs of the visitors and locals who want to get a sample of EDM madness.

On Friday 19th at the ‘Passenger Terminal’ the label voted the ‘Best Global Label’ for four consecutive years, organised a magnificent night that was packed, sold out, and certainly unforgettable. Armada Music offered the high quality event ‘Armada Night’ with the finest music policy; Trance from all the various sub styles, the finest sound system, the finest lighting effects, including mouth-watering lasers and great visual effects that transformed the stage into a sci-fi environment, and pyrotechnics to light up the night. Behind the decks were only the best DJ’s who represent the present but most importantly the future of the scene too. Armin van Buuren, Tenishia, W&W, Sied van Riel, Max Graham, Aly & Fila, John O'Callaghan, Ashley Wallbridge & Tom Fall were the lucky ones who had the chance to play in front of a such a huge and up-for-it crowd.

The 6th and final interview at Armada Night at ADE was with the finest Irish underground uplifting banging trance DJ, producer, label owner and radio show host, John O'Callaghan. It was the second time that I have had the chance to interview him after we met at Tomorrowland festival in Belgium. First of all, we asked his opinion about ADE I general, and also if he had attended other events other than Armada Night. We wanted to know why he is still faithful to uplifting euphoric harder trance sounds after so many years. He tell us that he is already in the process of composing new tracks for his forthcoming solo artist album, and he reveals some tasty details about his 2 CD compilation ‘Subculture’ which will be out soon, and will include new tracks and many exclusives from all the beloved producers from his label Subculture. We question him about his label, and ask if he is satisfied with its success, and the level of recognition and respect that it has reached.

We ask about the artists that his label is currently working with. He replies to our question about if he feels that he is an inspirational figure for younger artists, particularly from Northern Ireland who may want to follow his successful path. He tells us who are the artists that inspired him to get involved with EDM. He reveals which Armada Night is his favourite from the many he has played at until now, and we ask him to tell us which elements constitute a successful club night. Is it good organisation, or the big and ready to party crowd. Last question is about his production techniques; if he uses sample libraries or if he constructs his own unique original sounds. John O'Callaghan is a legend for many, and if you watch this interview you will understand the reason. Don’t Miss it!
