REVIEW: M.I.K.E. - The Motive E.P.out on Coldharbour recordings

2013 has been another incredible year for the IDMA-nominated Coldharbour Recordings; hosting a plethora of top-tiered releases from its roster. To close out this year, the label is incredibly proud to welcome a new family member, but someone who needs no introduction in the world of electronica.

Belgian producer M.I.K.E. is responsible for some of the most iconic moments in trance music, whether it is under his main alias, or the alter egos of Push or Plastic Boy. And fresh from contributing to Markus Schulz's Buenos Aires '13 compilation with Before Dawn, he presents his first EP of Originals for Coldharbour with three tracks in his unique style.

Leading track The Motive gathers plenty of momentum as the track progresses, and is one that will keep the energy levels high in a liveset. Spacesuit is a slightly deeper take, but accompanied with a haunting melody that shines in the darker moments of a set. And rounding out the package, Mass Freedom is a real hands in the air journey, with acid influences intertwined between the typical M.I.K.E. sound.

After dazzling the New York audience with his performance at the New World Punx show at Roseland Ballroom, M.I.K.E.'s package demonstrates that he continues to be a pivotal contributor to the modern trance scene.

On behalf of everyone at Coldharbour, we thank you for all your support for the artists and label over the past 12 months. See you in 2014!

Dimitri Kechagias review: One of the most inspiring and influential trance artist of 2013 is the Belgian M.I.K.E who has under his belt the finest trance classics of all times. He is definitely one of those artists that can be labelled pioneer and legend in the history of EDM culture. He enters  Coldharbour recordings headquarters with 3 must play progressive trance smashers that will be played frequently from now all the way through the European summer festivals including Tomorrowland without doubts.  Firstly is The Motive that can be described as the classic M.I.K.E. sound that we all loved in the past and it combines elements of industrial music with dark Gothic synths and superb tight foundation of pumping beats, flexible basslines and generous touches of acid too. Epic melodies and energetic climax ensures that the dancefloor will erupt when you will play it.  The 2nd track Spacesuit is powerful and upfront progressive trance banger with synthy melody that will remind you trance classics from the past plus the lovely classic trancy voices on top. When the beat kicks back goes all epic and in your face with hands in the air part that is rather aggressive and maddening with acid touches as well. When tunes like that one is  played crowd goes ballistic no doubts. 3rd top notch track is the awesome Mass Freedom. On this one he combines again acid with tough bouncy beats, deep but very energetic driving basslines and on top he introduces his dark and very infectious melodies that create the sense of empowerment to the listener ready to fight on the dancefloor and charges the adrenaline levels straight away. His breakdown is cinematic and very haunting with his trademark dark synths that will raise the hair from your neck and uplift your spirit  ready for the fantastic straight forward energizing climax.  As it seems M.I.K.E sound is tailored made for Coldharbour recordings and he has found his new home base. Lets hope more top EP's like this one from the Belgian friend on Coldharbour plus a collaboration with Markus Schulz soon.
