REVIEW: Jam & Spoon - Odyssey To Anyoona (The Remixes) out on Coldharbour Recordings

When reflecting upon the early roots of trance music in the early nineties, a key pioneer of this music we love was the duo of Jam El Mar and the late Mark Spoon. In 1994, they released the single 'Find Me', but little were they to know that the record's B-Side would go on to become one of the most cherished of all time - the iconic Odyssey To Anyoona.

Coldharbour Recordings is not only delighted and honored to welcome the legendary figure of Jam El Mar to its family of artists, but in doing so, we are also incredibly proud to introduce Odyssey To Anyoona to the modern-day generation.

Following a summer visit to Jam's home city of Frankfurt, Markus Schulz struck an immediate rapport and chemistry, and embarked on rekindling the magic of the original piece which is beloved by so many. Surrounded by an energetically hypnotic 140bpm outer layer, the core remains intact, harnessing the beautiful soul of angelic and emotionally driven tones. Debuted to rapturous appraisal at Nature One, Germany's leading dance music festival, it created a moment for both Jam and Markus to share for a lifetime.

And to compliment the energy of the Markus Schulz vs. Jam El Mar outlay, maestro Jamie Stevens teams up with Uone for a tantalisingly, laid-back, deep house affair; oozing class whether played early in the morning or the evening.

For the veterans out there, the revival of Odyssey To Anyoona will be a fond trip down memory lane to reminisce. And for the new generation, embrace it and fall in love with its beauty.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]If you are lucky enough to be around when this record was for the first time around you will definitely feel excited as it has been noted in the trance encyclopedias as one of the most beautiful trance records ever with ethnic vocals, tribal drums and hypnotic atmosphere along with the strongest synthy lines. Of course the track is Odyssey To Anyoona by Jam & Spoon that returns officially with underground remixes perfect to make you feel lifted straight away. Markus and Jam El Mar paired in the studio and the result is a full on uplifting driving big room with psy tech influences version. It has long atmospheric breakdown and introduces new euphoric Ibiza kissed synthy themes that carry the track on its solid strong climax that remains purely immersive as the original with that Morse signal like melody. On the other hand superb deep remix is offered by Jamie Stevens and Uone who transform the original into a blissful chilling and grooving mesmerising affair that can indulge you easily and calm your senses with excellent slow down of the main theme with great drums, ethnic vocals, dark atmosphere and addictive sounds. What is missing from both versions is the strong piano line of the original and it would be cool to add a vocal version with Plavka of course and invite all Coldharbour artists to put their hands on Jam & Spoon classics. #PureGold Love It   [/content]
