Trance Review: Armin van Buuren and Indira Paganotto Unleash Genre-Blending Debut Collab Single ‘Dragon’ out on Armind / Armada Music

The track is the final single to drop from Armin van Buuren’s highly anticipated ninth studio album ‘Breathe’

Just a day out from their highly immersive debut back-to-back at Sónar Festival, global trance icon Armin van Buuren joins forces with Spanish techno-psytrance powerhouse Indira Paganotto for the explosive new single ‘Dragon’, marking their long-awaited first studio collaboration. The track drops as the latest addition to Armin van Buuren’s upcoming album ‘Breathe’.

Built for the mainstage, ‘Dragon’ harnesses the fire and stadium-quaking energy of psytrance-techno icon Indira Paganotto and global trance icon Armin van Buuren. Having already stormed stages at Ultra, Dreamstate, Tomorrowland, EDC, Cercle and more, this fire-spitting, genre-blending track effortlessly cements itself as a scene staple.
Armin van Buuren says: “Indira has been at the forefront of the psytrance and techno scene for several years now and I’m amazed at how quickly she took it by storm. She reached out to me a while back, and blending our styles seemed to make a lot of sense. So as you can expect, ‘Dragon’ is one for the mainstages!”
Indira Paganotto adds: “For me, ‘Dragon’ is the power of everything! Its nature, humanity, art, and spirituality. It's the result of two forces with the same mission, to reach the hearts and minds of our warriors with our music. So excited for this release to finally come out, we have both been playing this for a while and it's magical.”
‘Dragon’ is the latest single revealed from ‘Breathe’, Armin van Buuren’s expansive and diverse two-part album project, set for release on June 27. Featuring a total of 51 tracks, the album brings together chart-topping hits, surprising collaborations (e.g. Pendulum & Rob Swire, Sam Gray, Moby, Bon Jovi), and new releases like ‘Let It Be For Love’ (feat. Jai Ryu) and ‘Gimme The Love’ (with Seth Hills, feat. Alessia Labate). Inspired by Armin van Buuren’s stronger sense of self, more creativity and an even more dauntless approach to studio work, the album is chock full of sound fusions and expert songwriting, showing that a balanced mind and lifestyle can lead to wonder.

‘Dragon’ is out now on Armada Music.

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]Built for the mainstage, ‘Dragon’ harnesses the fire and stadium-quivering energy of psytrance-techno icon Indira Paganotto and electronic music powerhouse Armin van Buuren. This collaboration stands out not only for its electrifying presence but also for the meticulous attention to detail in its production. Clocking in at 146 BPM, ‘Dragon’ is a psytrance anthem infused with techno elements, creating a dynamic and pulsating experience. The track kicks off with razor-sharp basslines crafted using advanced synthesis techniques that layer gritty, distorted waveforms with clean sub-bass frequencies, providing both depth and sharpness. These basslines are meticulously side-chained to thumping, punchy kicks, designed with precision EQing and compression to maintain clarity and impact even on large festival sound systems. The percussion arrangement showcases intricate hi-hat patterns and rhythmic textures that evolve throughout the track, adding drive and complexity. The kicks are engineered with a balance of analog warmth and digital precision, using transient shaping to achieve that signature punch without overshadowing other elements. One of the standout features of ‘Dragon’ is its incredible breakdown. This section transports listeners to another world with a mystical ethnic atmosphere, achieved through the integration of traditional instruments and ambient soundscapes. Reverb and delay effects are used strategically to create spatial depth, while subtle automation adds movement and dynamic shifts that keep the energy flowing. Synth layers are rich and diverse, employing both analog hardware and digital VSTs to craft soaring leads and atmospheric pads. These elements are modulated using LFOs and filters to create evolving textures that maintain listener engagement. The final mastering process ensures that every frequency is balanced, with a wide stereo image that envelops the audience. The track’s loudness is optimized without sacrificing dynamic range, making ‘Dragon’ a true festival monster that resonates both physically and emotionally. #PureGold Love IT [/content]

About Indira Paganotto

Born in 1992, today Indira Paganotto is one of Spain’s most prominent figures in the world of music. Her sets are full of energy and undeniable danceability. In the last 13 years she has changed the dance music industry, being the driving force behind a new sound, psy-techno. At the age of just 17 she signed a total of 3 vinyl releases to Ian Pooley’s label Pooled Music, after he discovered her during a warm-up set she played in Gran Canaria. Soon after, she moved to Madrid where she could focus on producing and DJing at a bigger scale.

Her debut collaboration with Nina Kraviz in 2023 for ‘White Horse’ on Trip, also came with the launch of her label ARTCORE with her EP ‘Guns & Horses’. Today, ARTCORE is spearheading the ‘psy-techno’ movement, a genre the label has effectively crafted itself over its last 15 releases. They charge into 2025 with ARTCORE curated stages at the world’s biggest festivals. Indira’s rise has been unstoppable, from remixing Depeche Mode’s ‘People Are Good’ to headlining all major clubs and events, with upcoming performances at Coachella, Tomorrowland, EXIT, Sonar, Awakenings and Mysteryland. But it’s at Monegros she’ll make history as the first woman to ever close the main stage in July and will be taking over Ibiza with her brand-new residency at Hi Ibiza, over 14 weeks of the summer. Although 2025 looks to be her biggest year yet, also with a debut album release, she remains humble and dedicated to her work, with infectious energy and a smile as bright as her fue.
