REVIEW: Nick The Kid & Jake Nicholls - The Looking Glass incl. Baby Doc remix on HTE Recordings

10.0
Overall Score

At the tail end of 2017, long time friends Nick & Jake caught up for a no pressure studio session and decided to embark upon a tribute track to one of their (and many others) most influential trance labels of all time, Bonzai Records. In fashion with their 25 year celebrations, 'The Looking Glass' pays homage to that classic early-mid 90's vibe that captivated a whole generation. (and then some!). The BPM's are up, the sound is raw and it's a simple but effective nostalgia trip that we hope you all enjoy as much these guys did making it.

As we up the anti all round for HTE this year, we are absolutely thrilled to welcome a true 90's legend onto the label for remix duties. With his tough as nails NRG/Trance sound that featured heavily on labels such as Prolekult, Positiva, React and of course Bonzai back in the day, we consider Baby Doc the ideal candidate to remix this trip down memory lane for you and us!

Summary

When Nick The Kid & Jake Nicholls collaborate you know the score. The Looking Glass is a powerful hard trancer with fat fast furious energetic basslines, hard pumping grooves and vitriolic kick. The cool breakbeat section adds to the atmosphere while classy euphoric synths are added to take us beautifully in the massive climax. Hands will stay in there for long. Baby Doc is back and his remix has that old school hi-nrg sound with heavy bass, pounding drums and even the classic hoover riff sound in the breakdown leading to his epic hands in the air climax. Both tracks definitely retain the old skool flavour and will win new younger supporters for the tougher trance sounds. #PureGold Love IT
