REVIEW: Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun 2013 remixes part 1 out on Perfecto records

1.Southern Sun (Moe Aly Remix)
2.Southern Sun (Cold Blue's Dark Remix)
3.Southern Sun (Cold Blue's Dark Dub Mix)
4.Southern Sun (Paul Thomas Remix)

Following in the footsteps of recent massive back catalogue releases - “Bullet in The Gun”, “ResuRection” and “Not Over Yet” we bring you the first of two packages of new remixes of “Southern Sun”.

A Perfecto classic of mammoth proportions “Southern Sun” was a lead single of Paul Oakenfold’s massive No.1 selling artist album “Bunkka” which was released on Madonna’s Maverick record label in 2002.

Headlining the package of remixes is a classy prog house reworking from Moe Aly – who recently debuted on Perfecto with the massive single “Atlanta”.

After Paul Oakenfold hammered Cold Blue’s 2012 hit “Coconut” relentlessly for several months it seemed right that we ask this uber talent to take on the challenge of creating something new with such a prestigious title as “Southern Sun”.

The boy done good! A dark and moody version that crosses several genres and that will surely be a favourite with both trance and prog djs alike.

Last up is Toolroom Records regular and Godskitchen resident Paul Thomas going progressive in a traditional sense with a Pryda-esque take on of “Southern Sun” that will undoubtedly go down a storm this summer at festivals around the globe.

Another Sun-sational release from Perfecto – just in time for the Festival season.

You can check it out on Paul Oakenfold's globally known radio show and podcast Planet Perfecto

Dimitri Kechagias review: If you run a pool on any EDM related web site or blog about your all time EDM classic for sure within the long list will be with many votes Paul Oakenfold's influential classic Southern Sun. Its one of those records that will stay upon the planet earth until the end of the world if ever comes of course. The idea to bring it back in hot action with new remixes sounds excellent and the 1st package will satisfy the prog house/tech house and trance lovers as well. First of all Perfecto supported Egyptian artist Moe Aly transforms the dreamy original into an energetic peak time epic prog house cracker. His version is rough, raw with heavy booming basslines, bumping and jumping basslines and great melodic breakdown with the unforgettable vocal. Just watch out what is going to happen on the floor when the lyrics will be played and the crowd will slowly understand that is a new remix on the classic anthem. The trance supporters will adore the magnificent Cold Blue dark interpretation. Tough bouncy energetic trancer with electro edges, tech influences and dark melodies that keep the atmosphere of the original. Hypnotic, flowing and highly danceable is the right trance makeover for the energetic trancefloors worldwide. The non vocal lovers will be happy to find there is dub version on that remix as well. But I wonder if you can have Southern Sun without the trademark heartfelt lyrics. Last but not least one of my favourite producers Paul Thomas adds his Toolroomesque make over to the track and he service a CLASS A not to be missed monster tune. Deep techy house beats, playful basslines, middle east influenced melodies, electronic style synths and those hair raising vocals. The breakdown is blissful, mesmerising and colourful as we like to be leading to a huge eargasmic climax. Hands will stay in the air forever and the crowd will be on their fluffy clouds for sure. Huge classic like this one deserves the high quality remixes that this 1st package includes. Thanks Paul Oakenfold for your contribution to EDM with tracks like this one. Love iT!
