Matt Lange - Griffith Park
Matt Lange - Avalon
Able to match emotive musical content with an endlessly complex sonic intricacy, Matt Lange has risen as a leading light at Anjunadeep's deeper end - even becoming an unlikely favourite of respected BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe.
With his "Rift" track going down as one of Anjunadeep's classic moments in 2011 (and picking up a R1 play from Mr Lowe in the process), the US-based producer begins 2012 with a double hit of deep melodic tech bliss.
Glitchy but groovy in a way that Lange seems to have mastered, "Avalon" is a brooding tech masterpiece that has shades of Radiohead to its melancholic, guitar-draped breakdown - with searching vocals adding a depth missing from so many 4/4 tracks these days.
Another track that draws on a sense of melancholy and longing, "Griffith Park" again embodies the spirit of emotional rock epic - but delivers it through the medium of forward-thinking and cutting-edge glitch techno.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Once again Anjunadeep proves why is one of the finest progressive house labels in a global scale. The latest Matt Lange double sword release will make you feel good straight away and make you feel very hopeful about the future of the EDM scene. Griffith Park is an awesome hybrid of deep tech house and progressive house elements as well in one mindboggling package. What really stands out for me is that rocky edge that remind me tracks by Gabriel & Dresden. He filters rock influences through his personal prism and he comes up with an anthem that is highly cinematic, atmospheric and definitely ready to allow your imagination to run wild and free. But dont judge it from the first time you hear it. The sound design is so complex and emotive that you should listen to it again and again. Avalon continues on the same mysterious magical and highly attractive path. Deep progressive basslines, warm melodies and sound effects that instantly open a door in your mind to get into Matt's world and share his art. The rock influences are passed through those emotional beats and the vocal sound so melancholic but so inspiring at the same time. Both tracks should be offered to young video artists to produce their own vision of the tracks. Its the case that Madonna echoes in my head: Words lost their meaning with Matt's music dont function anymore...Love iT!
