Marc Simz, was born in 1976 in Nijmegen (Holland) and his first contact with the world of vinyl, was at the tender age of 18. In his early years he mixed hardcore, now known as oldschool. And while he was doing his thing, the love for music kept on growing. After his residency at Emporium Festival, Reloaded Festival, Summer Festival Nijmegen, Matrixx at the Park, is Marc Simz a new rising star.
He plays every month at one of the biggest club in the world, the Matrixx. Support of Marc Simz productions comes from Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, Marco V, Mark Sherry, Mr. Sam and many more. Marc Simz has a wide collection of records to choose from, like progressive, trance, hardtrance and techno. During his performance he can surprise you with many different styles.
For Marc Simz trance is the right music to bring people together, and let them forget all the sorrow from the past years. With vocals and many beats he tries to bring the audience in the right mood.
Marc Simz after his massive and very successful releases on In Trance We Trust it was natural to be asked from the Black Hole recordings crew to mix their latest volume of the historic and highly influential compilation In Trance We Trust. He did a marvelous job as he delivered a very tight and super powerful mix of some of the hottest tunes around perfect to press play in your car cd player or in your home party and dance the night away along with your friends. Why not considering offering ITWT vol 18 as a Christmas gift to your friend who loves quality epic trance sounds?
This is my second interview with Marc Sizm and I’m very glad that I asked him again cause its always great joy to read his truthful and honest answers. Put loud and proud in your stereo ITWT vol. 18 and indulge yourself on this very cool interview that is a very interesting read for sure.
Interview is written and conducted by Dimitri Kechagias Radio & Club DJ/Music Journalist.
Dimitri: Hi Marc I’m glad to meet you for second time via an interview of course,
First of all I would love to ask you about the ADE festival that took place the last week of October in Amsterdam. What is your opinion about the significance of this festival for the EDM music scene and have you attended any event on this year’s festival that you really liked and you will remember for years to come?
First of all I would love to ask you about the ADE festival that took place the last week of October in Amsterdam. What is your opinion about the significance of this festival for the EDM music scene and have you attended any event on this year’s festival that you really liked and you will remember for years to come?
Marc Simz: I was there for just one day, I played at the Escape. But that’s it, I’m not into the ADE. I’m more for the WMC and Ultra Week in Miami. I like the sun ;)
Dimitri: For the first time during ADE, the influential dj mag Top 100 dj’s list announced with David Guetta at the top of this list. Do you agree about the importance that the dance music industry is giving to this list? Please give us a comment about this year’s results.
Marc Simz: It’s a shame that everyone is looking to the DJ Mag . Bookers and promoters only look into the top 100. But there are more better dj’s outside the top 100 then in the top 100.
Dimitri: So now let’s move to you and the last developments in your dj career. First of all I would like to ask about the remixes that you did this year for many well known artists and labels. It would be great to choose for us your Top 3 remixes and give us a short comment about each of them.
Marc Simz: It was a great year for me, everyone wants a Marc Simz Remix after Forbidden City. My top 3 remixes are: 1, Antony Waldhorn – Beta, this is my favorite. Armin van Buuren loved this one. When this remix was done, I sent it over to him. The same night he dropped it at 538night in Amsterdam. Number 2, MDX – Drive Out this one is pure energetic and powerful, great for the dance floor. 3 Andy Duguid – Miracle Moments, it was great to work with this great vocal. Very happy with the result..
Dimitri: Is there a secret recipe on how to produce a successful remix that will have that special Marc Simz flavor and can you reveal to us the remix that took you many hours to finish it and the remix that you did very quickly?
Marc Simz: It’s a secret recipe, If I tell it, then it isn’t a secret anymore ;) I was working on a remix for Ferry Corsten and Armin van Buuren, Minack. These two guys are gods, so I want to make it special and more than 100%. So this one, was too much thinking, a lot of work and time. And I wasn’t happy with the end result. Beta, was made in two days. And I really love that one. So the best tracks are made in a short time..
Dimitri: Of course you produce some fantastic personal tracks as well on ITWT incl. Delusory Hopes, Marc Simz vs. Aerofoil– Knights Templar, and the top Stealth. Do you have an absolute favorite track that you have released so far and can you explain the reasons why you choose it?
Marc Simz: Forbidden City, this one is played by all big dj’s around the globe. It’s released on about 7 mix compilations and some dj’s still playing this tune nowadays.
Dimitri: Now the brand new legendary compilation In Trance We Trust vol.18 is out mixed by you. How do you feel that you had the opportunity to mix this great compilation series and from the previous volumes do you have the one that you love most and you play in your home stereo again and again?
Marc Simz: It’s a great opportunity, it’s one of the biggest and largest trance compilation in the world. So more people in the world knows me now, and listening to my music. I have more Twitter and Facebook followers after this compilation. The best? I don’t know, but I play number 18 a lot in my stereo.
Dimitri: I wonder if it was hard to choose the tracks that you will include in it and if there were any tracks that you wanted to include but for several reasons didn’t happen at the end?
Marc Simz: Yes it was hard, I really wanted more trance tunes in it. So I did about 5 months to have the final tracklist. I wanted to add a special made intro edit from Daniel Wanrooy. But that track doesn’t fit in the mix. Just ask Daniel why ;P
Dimitri: Did you mixed it as live with CDs or is it digitally mixed? Have you manage to record the mix in one take or you had to do some retakes as well?
Marc Simz: Yes I mixed it live, first I dropped 18 tracks on the compilation. Black Hole listened to it, and where not very happy with the short tracks on the CD. So I had to put it back to 15 tracks.
Dimitri: Please give us a short comment about each track that you have included in this top compilation:

Dimitri: From your gigs this year and particularly this summer is it possible to choose your best djing experience that you will keep in your mind for ever?
Marc Simz: ASOT 500, it was a big honor for me that Armin invited me for this big event.
Dimitri: Now I would love to ask you a question that always do to every dj that I interview and is about self-reflection and self-criticism. Out of 10 with what score do you rate the various elements of your dj performances and why?

Dimitri: Are there any dj gigs in the next couple of months that you are looking forward to perform and why?
Marc Simz: I always look forward to play at Tranceclassixx in the Matrixx. I am resident of the Matrixx, but love to play real classics. And this night, I have most of the time a 2 hour set. So really enjoying behind the decks.
Dimitri: In the previous interview I asked you about your radio show and you were about to start a new one. Do you have currently a radio show? If yes tell us if you think is important for your career.
Marc Simz: I have 2, first a weekly show at Party107. Every Wednesday 6pm CET. 2 hours Simz City. And every 3rd Friday of the month on After Hours FM, Marc Simz monthly Top 10. I think it’s important, because more people outside the Netherlands can hear my sound.
Dimitri: I wonder if you work full time as a music producer and dj or if you have other normal job as well. What other jobs except djing you have done so far??
Marc Simz: I was a painter at my fathers company, and I was a bouncer at some clubs.
Dimitri: Is there something in this world that relax and sooth you? After a hard night in a club what is the best thing to calm you and make you feel relaxed?
Marc Simz: Nothing special I think, I don’t drink, don’t use drugs. So I’m always relaxed.
Dimitri: Please give us your short message to the people who will read this.
Marc Simz: Keep loving trance music, support us, and vote next year only for trance dj’s and producers ;)
