INTERVIEW: Best of 2011 Interview with Tino Hufeld(Dark Moon)


Name: Tino Hufeld, Breathemusic General Manager, Dark Moon (Producer)
Location: Germany

Christian Stein and Tino Hufeld are both from the for Trance fans well known area of Frankfurt Main, one of the birthplaces of the German Electronic Dance Music. They met each other during Tinos apprenticeship and soon found out that they both have a passion for this kind of music. In the mid of the 1990ies they started professional music production.

In summer 2004 they founded Breeze Records /Breathemusic.Several singles in cooperation with André Visior & Remixes have followed since that day and you will find on most Breathemusic releases a mix of the duo.

Dimitri: Do you consider 2011 as a positive, negative or neutral year for the progress of the Electronic Dance Music scene?
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Stars like Rihanna are more interested in electronic beats; there are more dance songs in US Charts and the dance festivals are growing! Why I should think negative?

Dimitri: Do you believe that 2011 was a good , indifferent or bad year for the development of your personal career?
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Changes in the market are faster then ever, so you have to find new ways for marketing and for the promotion of your tracks and artists. I think we are on a good way. We have several new artists signed to our label, in my eyes it was a good year at all.

Dimitri: THE A to Z of the Best of the Year 2011.
a) Best Full Release of the year(original & remixes)
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Really love the productions of Dash Berlin and Cosmic Gate. So the best full releases are
- Dash Berlin feat. Emma Hewitt “Disarm Yourself”
- Cosmic Gate feat. Emma Hewitt “Be Your Sound”
(Hmm, two times Emma Hewitt, I am a fan of her voice ;-))

                                     

b) Your personal Full release of the year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): The last single of Andre Visior – Moonraker was amazing! Daniel Kandi and Alex Popov and Broning did a perfect job on their remixes of Moonraker too. The pure emotions of “Fast Distance’s - Envol EP” (all mixes)

d) Your personal Best Single track of the year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Running Man “Shine” Estiva Remix  I love that Remix, pure energy.

                                                                                                         

e) Best Remix  of the year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Daniel Kandi is one of the best Remixers 2011…so I would take his Remix of Andre Visior “Moonraker”.

f) Best Remix on personal production that you released  in 2011
 Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Chris Turner – Phat Giraffe (Dark Moon Remix)

g) Best Producer of the year in your style that you play or any other that you may like
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Cosmic Gate and Dash Berlin are my personal favorites.

h) Best New Talent/Big hope for the coming years
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Orjan Nielsen – could be one of the best in 2012….let’s wait and see.

i) Best Remixer  of the year  on personal or others peoples tracks
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): Estiva  Remix of Running Man “Shine”


j) Best Established  Label of the year(not started in 2011)
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  What should I say…Breathemusic!

k) Best Newborn in 2011 label of the year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  n/a

l) Best dance album and mixed compilation of the year in the style of music that you work with…
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Universal Religion Chapter 5!

m)         Best Music Video of the year(this can be personal/you are involved with or from other artists)
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  There are so many cool videos online; I can’t decide which one is the best.

n) Best social network of the year that has been amazing for the promotion of your work
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Facebook and Youtube I think.

o) Best new software or hardware that was introduced in this year and you recommended it to others.
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  I am an Universal Audio Fan. It is a “must have” for me and our productions.

p) Best and worst djing  or production  experience that happened in 2011(if you are a dj you can tell us your own if you are just producer you can recall something that happened in the process of producing one of your releases in 2011.)
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  The best was the rework on our studio, I think we have setup our environment for some good stuff. Maybe we will find the time to lay hands on a new Dark Moon single ?

r) Best club or open air festival that you attended or you even performed this year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Nature One i think.

s) Best hobby or other activity for 2011(game/movie/book/going to gym to keep fit  or any other hobby )
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  I love to ride my bike.

t) Best radio show of the year and Best radio station that you always check out(fm or online)preferably that plays the kind of your music
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Above and Beyond’s “Trance around the world” and Armin’s” A State of Trance” are my all-time favs


u) Best online or ordinary record shop that you used to get your music of the year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Beatport is my daily homepage.

v) Best CD player or any other equipment that you use for djing (this can include software for digital mixing)

w) Best vocalist in a dance track of the year
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Love the voices of Emma Hewitt and Jonathan Mendelsohn!

x) Best magazine or web site that you always check out for music related stuff

Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Support German Deutsches Rotes Kreuz and center for Sepsis Control and care in Germany

Dimitri: Can you please let us know your plans for 2012 for your djing, productions or label?
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music): We will work more in our studio and I think we have some really nice releases coming ?


Dimitri: On the other side is it possible to tell us the track, album, artist/dj that you believe were the worst of the year and why?
Tino Hufeld (Dark Moon/Breathe Music):  Music is emotion, who am I to decide good or worst ?

Dimitri: Please give us your wishes for 2012 and your small piece of advice for anyone that reads this interview and aspires to get into music production, djing, or music production in general.
