Progressive Review: anamē & Lydmor - Astronauts out on Anjunabeats

10.0
Overall Score

anamē & Lydmor return to highlight ‘Astronauts’, featured originally on the recent anamē album, ‘Hopes & Fears’.

Debuted live on stage at Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 600 in Mexico City, ‘Astronauts’ showcased Lydmor’s stage prowess and presence, placing her captivating performance of the track as the highlight of the set.

An emotive, highly-charged record, statement driven, album that ultimately leans to the lighter side of life, ‘Hopes & Fears’ was released towards the end of February, 2025. The album takes its inspiration from an honest reflection of how Marcus and Thomas feel about the world around them and the connections they’ve made worldwide.

Long-standing collaborator with anamē, Jenny Rossander, better known as Lydmor, is a well renowned Danish pop artist, whose cultural heritage spans five albums, sold-out headline shows across Scandinavia, co-producing albums with Who Made Who’s Thomas Holding and being author of a best-selling book, charting her journey through the electric arts world over the last 10 years.

‘A live wire - show stealer - natural performer, Jenny’s at the heart of our writing process. The ambiguity and poetry of everything she does ultimately leads to songs people want to scream at the top of their lungs. She’s also always at the end of the phone - the songs on this album are born out of being together, investing in each other's emotional state, and letting it play out in the music we’re writing’ Thomas says.

Dimitris Kechagias Review:
anamē & Lydmor - Astronauts 10

Summary

anamē & Lydmor’s edit of "Astronauts" from their latest album is a masterclass in contemporary electronic music production. The track opens with warm, pulsating basslines that create an immersive, atmospheric foundation. These basslines are meticulously layered with chunky, organic percussion, crafted using a blend of live-recorded elements and intricate sample manipulation, adding a tactile, earthy feel to the groove. The energetic kicks are precisely side-chained to the bass, ensuring a tight, punchy low end that drives the track forward with rhythmic precision. The production shines through its exceptional use of anthemic synths, characterized by expansive, evolving pads and arpeggiated sequences that cascade like cosmic waves. These synths are expertly modulated with automation techniques, giving them dynamic movement and emotional depth. Complementing the synths are cinematic string arrangements, subtly layered to enhance the track's soaring quality. The strings are processed with lush reverb and delay effects, creating a vast, ethereal soundscape that evokes the sensation of floating through the stratosphere. At the heart of "Astronauts" is Lydmor’s captivating vocal performance. Her voice effortlessly glides over the 115 BPM downtempo rhythm, with its smooth and beautiful foundation providing the perfect canvas. The vocals are treated with a combination of reverb, delay, and slight pitch modulation, adding a dreamlike quality that aligns with the track's space-travel theme. Lydmor’s stunning lyrics are poetic and evocative, inviting listeners on an introspective journey through space and time. Great lyrics that showcase her lyrical prowess, painting vivid images that resonate deeply. Overall, "Astronauts" is not just a song; it’s an auditory expedition. The meticulous attention to technical details in production, combined with Lydmor’s mesmerizing vocals and thought-provoking lyrics, make this track a standout piece. It’s trippy, emotionally engaging, and simply outstanding. #PureGold, Love IT
