Welcome to the Gear Test Lab; the place where you are allowed and encouraged to touch every piece of gear you walk into! This year, in fashion with the new experimental grounds of ADE Lab, we are introducing the newest edition to the mix: the ADE Lab Studio Arena! Yes, you read that right: Studio Arena!

Bring your laptop and get ready to step into the studio at ADE Lab!A one-of-a-kind experience where you as a producer have the opportunity to plug in and start creating right on the ADE grounds, with access to an extraordinary amount of top-notch hardware and software to try out and implement into your productions! A total of eight (!!!) plug and play work-stations to get creating.

To push your inspiration and creativity, the Studio Arena will be hosted by none other than the SAE Institute - firing you challenges by the hour and daring you into the studio ring. Expect hardware and software from Ableton, AIAIAI, Focusrite/Novation, Moog, Native Instruments, Roland, Teenage Engineering and Universal Audio.


• Lab Living

During the long days and longer nights at ADE, we all need a moment to recharge. So sit back, put on a record, relax… and come hang out at the ADE Lab grounds its livingroom; The Lab Living! A multi experimantal space for you to kick back and enjoy a chilled moment. Get groovin’ at the open vinyl decks and curated DJ sets, provided by Allen & Heath, who are there to let you absorb a relaxed ambience at the Lab Living. More of a cratedigger? Start digging and discover some of the most iconic records or flip through a book or two, leveling up your knowledge on the culture and colours of the electronic music scene. Feeling more creative? Together with Deepgrooves you’ll be able to customize your own vinyl sleeve at the Lab Living! For that second-hand record that you have been saving in its little paper cover for years to finally have a proper home. Accompanied by a tiny exhibition on the vinyl creation process!

It is impossible to talk about Bulgarian wizard KiNK without discussing his unreal live show. A core part of that show - and his home studio setup - is the Roland gear the experimental house and techno artist uses, from his trusty TR-909 to his TR-8S and the newest kid on the block, his Aira Compact machines. This workshop will discuss his relationship with his machines, talk about the history of Roland and why it remains so relevant in its 50th year. The VIP Experience is a project devised and managed by DJ MissChivers and the not-for-profit company Sync Inspire CIC. The project sheds important light on the challenges faced by electronic music DJs, producers, artists, fans, club and festival goers who are blind or have low vision whilst increasing accessibility and awareness about sight loss across the dance music community. Inclusivity was at the heart of the dance scene early on, and this workshop keeps it that way!

Some of the best music ever made came about by accident, such as the famous invention of the acid sound on a Roland TR-303 by DJ Pierre. In this masterclass, Stevie R will present many different methodologies that allows you to use Ableton as an active collaborator that generates random and ever-evolving musical and percussive phrases whilst morphing and effecting existing elements in the project. Consumer electronics company teenage engineering host this interactive workshop at Lynk & Co and invite you to have a play with their new portable TX–6 field mixer and OP–1 field. Staff and mentors from the company will also be around to jam with you and answer any questions you may have, while there will also be a Space Invaders competition on the OP–Z - a fully portable 16-track sequencer and synthesizer - with winners picking up some new teenage engineering gear. There is a whole world of equipment out there which caters to visually impaired people and can help anyone unlock their creative potential and it’s time you knew about it.

During his visit at ADE Lab, Kerri Chandler will take us through the creation process of his newly released album ‘Spaces and Places’, which has been his musical project of the past four years. With the use of a portable studio set up, Kerri created the 24 track heavy album right on the dancefloor of several clubs, to embody the true essence of these energy filled places. A look into his set-up, the ways he manipulated sound to create unique layers to his album and how he challenged himself productionally.

This audio technicus with a passion for anything audio-related, has gained quite some popularity on TikTok by creatively crafting hardware such as microphones and speakers from the most odd objects. Can't believe it? Join Thomas during ADE Lab for a live masterclass by the audio wizard himself and watch the process in real life! Thomas started his career as head audio at RedBullMusic Studios Amsterdam. The same studio he now runs as studiomanager, called Atlantisstudio. He started to explore the world of social media in 2021, using Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube for his daily posts of videos about everything that has to do with recording and mixing music. From recording- and mixingtips to making microphones out of almost anything.

  • How Intercity 106's "Runaway" was Created with Modular Gear!
Intercity 106

Intercity 106 is the result of a 7-dayisolation of two creative and audio-technical masterminds, also known as Sjamsoedin & De Sluwe Vos, that only had their eagerness to experiment, a bunch of hardware and themselves. Via their vocoders, modular set-ups and Juno 106 synthesizer amongst other gear, the duo translates their exploration of new sounds, analogue synths and musical interest rooted in 80s/90s techno, wave and electro into their productions. All while playing around with different production techniques!

At ADE Lab, Intercity 106 will give you a glimpse into the creation and production of their track “Runaway”, showing how they created the track by using analogue, modular gear & digital production techniques. How do you start a creation and which steps did they end up taking to create Runaway? They’ll take you through the entire process at ADE Lab!
