ADE Beats presents keynote Q&A’s with a host of key figures from the international hip-hop, bass and beats community including Ninja Tune’s co-founder Matt Black, dancehall super star Mr. Vegas, US hip-hop manager Steve Lobel, hip-hop and vinyl culture pioneer Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, music and branding innovator Rob Stone (The Fader/Cornerstone) and many more.
ADE Beats will discuss 25 years of Ninja Tune, the groundbreaking UK record label, with the labels co-founder Matt Black, a true and innovative pioneer of UK bass and beats music, as half of the classic electronic music duo Coldcut and as a key figure in the development of remix culture, VJ culture and his legendary record label. Rob Stone, co-founder of legendary American pop culture magazine The Fader and founder of leading lifestyle marketing and public relations agency Cornerstone, is widely recognized as one of the foremost music and branding pioneers in the world and will elaborate on creating successful marketing campaigns that break new ground for brands, musicians and music industry.
Brooklyn’s legendary Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez celebrates three decades as a DJ this year. He has had a tremendous passion for hip-hop music and culture from day one and at ADE Beats Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez talks three decades of loving, collecting and preserving hip-hop’s finest moments, in his own music and with his record labels and special collections, with Dutch MC Brainpower. Also US hip-hop manager extraordinaire Steve Lobel will share his stories, his experience and his vision in an exclusive business Q&A. He was instrumental in the creation of the classic album E.1999 Eternal by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony twenty years ago, the extremely successful hip-hop group he manages that has sold over 40 million records since. Lobel entered the game through Run DMC’s Jam Master Jay, worked with Eazy-E, Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Big Pun, Fat Joe, Common and more recent artist like Nipsey Hussle, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, DJ Mustard and Sean Kingston.
Together with guest curators The Partysquad and their record label Rebel Yard, ADE Beats will also present a special program that focuses on the Jamaican roots of international DJ and remix culture and the way the exciting Jamaican scene keeps on influencing international electronic music from grime to hip-hop to electronic dance music. In MyCity Kingston we take a look at Kingston though the eyes of Mr. Kamal Bankay (Dream Weekend/Major Lazer events Jamaica) who is known all around Kingston for throwing the biggest events. We discuss the development of the powerful grime scene in London, the most recent trends, sounds and possibilities with MC’s Ghetts and Stylo G, Diztortion and Austin Daboh (BBC 1Xtra) and Phil Kermish (GRM Daily). The grime panel will be hosted by Akwasi, co-host of Dutch grime radio show Grimeyard.
The Beats & Culture-theme at ADE Beats will be kicked off with the special opening party ‘The Partysquad and Friends’ presented by Rebel Yard and ADE Beats in Melkweg’s Rabozaal on Wednesday October 14, the first Rebel Yard event in The Netherlands with special appearances by dancehall superstar Mr. Vegas from Jamaica, Ms Dynamite & Maikal X, Diztortion, Stylo G, Ghetts, Bonkaz, Toddla T, Gomes, Yung Felix and Boaz van de Beatz. Look for many of these artists as well during the conference program of ADE Beats on Friday October 16. One of the highlights of this program will be a live keynote interview conducted by Kamal Bankay with the legendary Clifford ‘Mr. Vegas’ Smith, who has been at the forefront of the Jamaican music scene as one of reggae and dancehall’s biggest stars for almost two decades.
In the exclusive new talk show Dutch Beats Innovators, ADE Beats also focuses on the special role Dutch Beats innovators played in creating club sounds that dominate on a global scale. We talk to pioneers from back in the day and producers and DJ’s at the forefront of musical innovation about the special Dutch touch to mixing musical genres, international influences and breaking fresh new ground. Top speakers include bubbling’s founding father DJ Moortje, Dirty Dutch-mixing master Chuckie, tropical bass innovator Fellow, moombahton pioneer Munchi, future bass prodigy Ganz, Rebel Yard’s music mashers The Partysquad and groundbreaking producer Boaz van de Beatz.
