Dimitri Kechagias review: Paul Oakenfold is not only well known for his stunning classic anthems but also for his explosive dj sets that connect him with the younger generations of trancers who respect his contribution to the trance scene. His monthly compilation Dj Box contains the tracks he plays that many of them are exclusives. Two of those very precious exclusive anthems are included on January edition. First of all Russell G from Birmingham transforms the euphoric version of the classic Hold that Sucker Down recently remade by Paul Oakenfold. His version is a driving melodic psy prog trance with punchy basslines, rolling grooves, acid overtones, hi nrg synths and plenty atmospherics like heavenly vocal samples and luscious pads. His breakdown focuses on the impressive sound design that adds three dimensional depth to it. The well known melody is replayed by variety of synthy plucks that recall the classic synthy theme without being exactly the same. You will get many goosebumps when you hear it at home or dance with it in a massive festival. The 2nd track by Greenhaven DJ's is called Portal and is a wonderful slice of futuristic progressive trance with deep throbbing driving basslines, pounding techy grooves and understated synths on top along with some vocals as well. With underground trance feel that can hypnotise you and put you in the right state of mind Portal is melodic and tripping as pure trance should be done. The breakdown is packed with emotional melancholic melody that can strike a chord inside us without going over the top to achieve it. #PureGold Love It
