REVIEW: John Dopping - Words In Colour - Album Sampler One out on Borderline Music

John Dopping has been carving his career carefully and methodically since his first outing on Digital Society Recordings in 2010, when Activa, the founder of Borderline Music, remixed his debut single The Mind.

From that point John has worked closely with Activa and Borderline Music, drawing together plans for an artist album that gave John the freedom and flexibility to create something that is as breathtakingly intricate as it is expertly crafted for the the dance floor.

The result is Words In Colour, a body of work that showcases not only John's melodic intelligence, but also his standards of production quality.

In 2013 the first single, ‘Aryl’ was released, and early 2014 saw the emergence of the 'Words In Colour' EP, which included ‘Basically.’ All of the tracks gained support from the likes of Paul Oakenfold on his Planet Perfecto and Full On Fluoro radio shows, and Yahel with the release of ‘Full On Fluoro Vol. 2’.

The result is a sublime journey of melodic electronic music, from the breakbeat hybrid 'The Fire Behind,’ through to melodic forces like 'Basically' and 'Where Do I Begin,' the serene ambience of 'Kayafly' and the acid fuelled 'Introspection'.

In an industry where often 'simple and loud' serve to overbear quality and subtlety, John Dopping provides a welcome alternative; the chance to sit back and think.

Let your mind wander and your senses fill.

This is Words In Colour.

Release: 28 July
Pre Order: 01 July

Dimitri Kechagias review: The still underground and kicking trance record label Borderline Music presents the first album for the label from the trusted and creative hands of John Dopping.  The album is called Words In Colour and is definitely one of those colorful albums that will be noticed and talked about alot. The artistic output of John Dopping until now reassure us that we are in safe hands and his album is a journey worth taking this summer with you in your holidays. First of all is the magnificent Psy Breaks production The Fire Behind that is a dark moody haunting composition with warped synths, dark and sinister industrial melodies, cool colourful synths, vocal samples, psy trance influences and cinematic atmosphere. It's one of those tracks that you can easily imagine included in the next James Bond movie soundtrack or any other sci-fi movie. Travelling, dreamy, melodic and very unconventional with superb climax with orchestral music themes and fantastic crescendo moment that you are transferred to a higher plain straight away. For the next track on the album sampler John collaborates with the trance legend Activa for the melodic psy trance smasher  Chayote. With the well known psy trance kick and driving energetic pumping bassline, BBE like synthy hooks on top recalling the classic 7 Days and 1 Week, chopped vocal samples,  and solid sound design that keeps everything nicely and tidy in place Chayote will become easily firm favourite on trance tents this summer. Superb climax in the final section with acid layers, melodic synths and energetic driving basslines makes this track the one and only firestarter. Lastly on this sampler and first taste of this album that documents well the resurrection of the nu UK psy trance sound  is the top notch An Opportunity. Another excellent composition that manage easily to absorb your mind and indulge your senses in a truly emotional adventure. An Opportunity combines well psy trance heavy kick and bassline with emotional piano melody, classic trancy heavenly voices and nice synthy hooks. John Dopping attempts to add colourful emotional melodies within psy trance that is considered dark underground trance style that usually melodies are considered as commercial and mainstream. Words In Colour will be welcomed from #TranceFamily members indifferent of trance subgenre divisions.
