REVIEW: Blake Jarrell - Socotra out on Black Hole recordings

1. Original Mix

If you’re waiting for a solid and uplifting trancer, wait no longer. Blake Jarrel has delivered exactly that with his brand new track ‘Socotra’ on Black Hole Recordings; a release that has all the elements of a clubber’s anthem.

Blake Jarrel is an American progressive trance DJ and producer. He is originally from New Orleans, where he discovered the electronic dance sound by already going to shows of Sasha, Armin Van Buuren, and Sander Kleinenberg at the age of 15. Quickly after he began producing his own music starting a very promising career. His move to Chicago, due to hurricane Katrina, marked a period in which Blake immersed himself in the city’s booming house, techno and trance scenes developing his own indefinable sound; a sound that has received praise of major DJ’s in the electronic dance scene. His releases have been topping the Beatport charts and Blake himself has been spinning the decks in big clubs all over the globe. Brace yourself though, because Blake has many more to come and it will be good.

Dimitri Kechagias review: Summer is closer than you think even if its raining  a lot still some days. The Ibiza season starts soon with some of the hottest jocks playing there who search desperately for those tracks that can do the trick and touch the crowd so much that will become an Ibiza Anthem. Blake Jarell presents his candidate for the big room/ mainstage trance anthem called Socotra. The production includes influences from the festival progressive house sound that is very large at the moment but Blake manage to filter this huge influence and deliver his unique and very recognisable easily identifiable with him pure progressive sound. It starts with very cool intro that has great rhythm and soon the groove comes in to pump up the proceedings. The basslines are energetic, pumping and slightly funky while the euphoric synthy leads on top have tendency to sound quite balearic with sea and sun in the mind of Blake I guess. The breakdown is atmospheric with natural sounds of crashing waves and seagulls while the beautiful synthy melody comes in very quite and calming at first  and then really upfront and euphoric to the maximum. Hands will stay in the air and the crowd will be shouting their gratitude with the excellent soundscape that makes you feel hot and sweaty even if outside is raining. The climax is full on and hands in the air allowing the uplifting epic euphoric synthy stabs to become the leading element that will excite the crowd and drive the clubbers go bonkers with swim suits and Brazilian hats too. Exotic, feel good, balearic and travelling track to escape for some magical moments on the dancefloor! #PureGold Love it
