REVIEW: Emufucka - Kings/ Porygon out on Rub a Duck / Black Hole recordings

Japanese producer Emufucka releases his very first EP on the Rub-A-Duck imprint. With the Melchior EP he serves the world an appealing mix of hip hop and heavy trap music; a sound that’ll definitely take off and set the dance floors alight. On both tracks the deep bass can’t be missed. King Henry, a versatile producer and member of the TeamSupreme collective even manages to kick the ‘Porygon’ track up another notch with his remix, making the package a definite must-have.

Don’t get it twisted, the man behind this somewhat odd moniker is a true future beat wizard that would never harm any animals, humans, or classic sample sources. His blissful electronica-fuelled rhythm sculptures have already created a decent buzz amongst today’s worldwide beats & bass scene and his soundscapes always leave enough space for improvisation and that moment of quirky playfulness. His original sound transcends genre, creating an image of cosmic space and stereo, floating in the jet black outer space, lined with thick drums, dope bass, dusty noise and synthesizer sounds... His space sound restores a sensitive, melancholic yet soulful feel to beat music.

He collaborated with Submerse, Djemba Djemaba, DZA, Quarta330, Coco Bryce, King Henry, My Dry Wet Mess and Tokyo Hands among others; released five successful singles and few mixtapes. He got lots of credit from Japanese and western music media. At the roots of his music there is hip hop but one can see lots of other genres in his powerful music. It’s enough to listen to any of his singles and mixes to understand that he isn’t called a wizard in vein. He participated in the New York of the Red Bull Music Academy 2013 and signed Singles and EPs to imprints such as Black Hole Recordings and Fremdtunes. Also he performed at the Sónar Festival Barcelona 2014, Vladivostok Rocks Festival 2013 and The Do Over in New York.

Press and radio features include BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 6 XLR8R, Earmilk, Flavorwire, Dazed & Confused Magazine, Solid Steel Radio Show (Ninja Tune), Red Bull Music Academy, Red Bull Russia, Dublab, NY Times, Japan Times, The Find Magazine, Jus Like Music, nutriot, 92bpm, Block.fm, Fine Cut Bodies, The Word Magazine, Inter.fm, KCRW 89.9 FM, 91.3FM WYEP, PBS 106.7fm Melbourne, Laid Back Radio, Lowriders Collective, The Greed, Cosmopolyphonic Radio, Mondayjazz, 22tracks(On-Point & Onda Sonora), Radio Campus Tours and more.

Dimitri Kechagias review: The stand out Bass focused record label Rub A Duck part of Black Hole recordings delivers the brand new EP by Emufucka that will be noted by many as one of the finest. Trap is the word and the Japanese talent impress our ears with his creative approach and the excellent compositions that include influences from orchestral classical music, electro pop synths and even some dubstep traces. Kings starts really melodic and calming but on the breakdown big epic rave style synths are introduced along with vocal samples as well. The drop if we can call it is more energetic and aggressive perfect to blow the speakers. Cinematic and very unresting will cause excitement. Porygon is the more classic trap sound with break beats, euphoric synhs and cool vocal samples. It makes you want to stand up and dance. King Henry remix goes on even slower direction in a more playful way with minimal beats and basslines. We are seriously trapped on Emufucka world. Check IT
