On their Original version, ‘Falling’s early light-box atmospherics fade fast into whip-quick two-step snares & kicks, snapping rim-shot percussion recoil and speaker reaping distortion. Subbing up the LFO, ‘Falling’ walks the line between the viscera of its floor-capitalising jump-up drums, and the bravura of its cultured, darkly beautiful and moody bass. As the drumstep FX burns, Laura Steel’s vocal brings the track its coup-de-grace moment, sealing ‘Falling’s lightning into the bottle.
Taking the track to stylistic spaces far and wide, Stanton Warriors, AfterHours and Wickaman marshal to deliver ‘Falling’ some speaker-kicking reworks.
Firing their treatment up with chunky tribal house drums and loud, echoing percussion, through a mid-mix skim of the pitch-wheel, the Stantons’ skew ‘Falling’ back into break-beat terrain. Using its immersive opening pads & chords to underpin Laura’s vocals in the break, at the top of the drop they cut, chop & loop them to dizzyingly infectious effect.
Carving out a soulful, late-into-the-night vibe for the track, the AfterHours crew brings ‘Falling’ some deeper house juice. Playing perfectly off Laura’s vocals, through its Todd Terry-like beats and subby London Town bass, it’ll prove an irresistible tonic for Disclosure and Duke Dumont heads alike.
Recalibrating ‘Falling’ to its Original drum ’n’ bass theme, UK fast-riser Wickaman seizes the remix controls. Blowing up the tempo, he plies his mix with ram-raiding beats, swerving, mass event FX, renegade distortion and Laura’s outstanding vocals to create some seriously dark sonic matter.
Be it house, breaks or drum & bass, there’s a mix here for you. ‘Falling' drops Jan 13th.
Dimitri Kechagias review: The beloved bass music project Freestylers stand out with their high quality output that underground clubs and UK Top 40 fans will appreciate as well. The brand new single is called Falling featuring the hypnotic vocals by Lara Steel. The original mix is a dreamy liquid drum n bass beauty that stands out with its cinematic strings, warm synths and of course the liquid drum n bass foundation that actually is quite influenced from dubstep as well with heavy bass distortion in some moments. Relaxing, erotic, travelling, exotic and highly enjoyable are some of the words that can describe the emotions that this great track evokes. Lara deeply emotional and highly expressive voice adds that pop touch to the track and will definitely support it to crossover to wider audiences. Stanton Warriors are on board for the remix package and they deliver a wonderful hybrid of breaks and old school electro beats adding an even more funky twisted sexy edge to it. Very danceable with great percussion and rhythm is super hard to stand still when this will be played in a club. Imaginative remix with many sonic surprises that invite you to discover them and take endless pleasures from them. Stanton Warriors instrumental mix is perfect for those who would like to concentrate on the great grooves and sonic soundscapes. Falling is really beautiful. The Afterlife remix will become favourite to those who love deep tech house that is melodic, romantic, sweet and retro take us back in the years of analogue music when house was underground. Very nice synths upon the deep basslines and the very strong sing a long vocals that particularly females will adore them and learn them easily by heart. Of course for the instrumentalists out there the package includes the instrumental version as well. Love iT
