That’s 25 years ago. Acid house took over the clubs. Techno became a youth subculture. Huge sound systems were set up in old factory buildings and the partying went on until well after daybreak. 1995 saw the advent of NATURE ONE as the first large-scale open-air rave. A totally new party feeling turning convention on its head. With the crowd taking centre stage, dancing, celebrating, partying – raving! Electronic music as an attitude towards life. Everyone together, no matter whether woman or man, black or white, gay or hetero. Tolerant, Peaceful, Passionate.
This “raveolution” is alive and won’t be forgotten. Even if some DJs become pop stars. Chart hit overkill and monotonous cheering directed at huge stage sets don’t leave any room for the all-important “We Feeling”. NATURE ONE isn’t a rock festival; it’s not a series of concerts. You don’t see the face of some star staring out from a poster. NATURE ONE is the guardian of the “purity regulations” governing rave. The party is the star – You.Are.Star.!
And it’ll be just the same in 2012 as well, with everything focussing on the dance floor. Four, six or eight point surround sound for an unsurpassable sound no matter where you are. Spots, lights and lasers are above your heads and zero in on you. The star is in the limelight – and you are the star! The stage as part of the whole, the DJ as the director and party-maker. Paul van Dyk, Sven Väth et al. are not standing up there just to elevate themselves. It’s so they can see you. And react to you. And capture your mood for choosing the next tracks. So that you can feel the sheer freedom and magic of this music.
