Progressive Review: Deep Dish Ushers in a New Era with First Original Release Since Decade-Long Hiatus on Armada Music

The Grammy-winning duo promises more new music in 2025

Trailblazing electronic music pioneers Deep Dish—Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia and Sharam Tayebi—are proud to unveil their first brand-new single in over a decade. Their new single, ‘Midnight’, created alongside UK-based melodic trio Eynka and acclaimed American singer-songwriter Wrabel, signals the duo’s refreshed sonic direction: a seamless fusion of their progressive roots with elements of melodic house and techno. The track is out now via Armada Music.
“Since reuniting in 2024, we’ve been deep in the studio crafting music to test at shows and guide the evolution of Deep Dish,” Deep Dish shares. “The reaction to Midnight during our sets has been incredible, and now feels like the right time to share it with the world. This one’s for the fans who’ve embraced this exciting new chapter—and there’s more to come this year.”
With its haunting synths, emotive piano melodies, and Wrabel’s immersive vocal performance, ‘Midnight’ showcases Deep Dish’s cinematic sensibilities and collaborative depth. The production, shaped with Eynka’s melodic finesse, pushes their sound into a more modern and expansive realm—while still honoring the sonic foundation that made them legendary.

The release marks the culmination of a year-long comeback, teased through the aptly titled Deep Dish Presents: The Future tour across North America and Europe. Standout highlights included a sold-out winter residency at The Cause in London (their first London shows in over a decade), a headline set at Club Space in Miami for the venue’s 25th anniversary, and, most recently, an all-night-long performance at London’s iconic fabric.

In 2024, Deep Dish partnered with independent dance music label Armada Music to re-release their landmark album George Is On—making it available for streaming and download for the first time in years—and to unveil reimagined versions of their early 2000s hits ‘Flashdance’ and ‘Say Hello’.

“This track marks the beginning of a brand-new chapter,” Deep Dish affirms. “It feels incredible to be back.”

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]From its haunting opening synths, "Midnight" captivates listeners with a sonic landscape that intertwines technical mastery and emotional depth. The track opens with layered analog synthesizers, creating an ethereal, almost spectral ambiance that sets the emotional tone. These synth textures are meticulously sculpted using a blend of subtractive synthesis and granular modulation techniques, providing both warmth and a haunting resonance. Wrabel’s raw, heart-wrenching vocal performance serves as the emotional anchor of the track. His voice is processed with subtle reverb and delay effects, enhancing its vulnerability while maintaining an intimate presence within the mix. The dynamic range is carefully controlled through parallel compression, allowing the emotional intensity of his delivery to shine without overwhelming the instrumental backdrop. Deep Dish’s signature cinematic flair is evident in the track’s immersive production. The duo employs a multi-layered production process, integrating organic and electronic elements seamlessly. The rhythmic foundation is built upon a tightly programmed 125 BPM beat, featuring crisp hi-hats, punchy kick drums, and intricate percussive details crafted through meticulous sound design. The use of sidechain compression creates a pulsating effect, giving the track its driving energy and club-ready appeal. EYNKA’s radiant production contributions add a fresh, elegant edge to "Midnight." Their expertise in melodic arrangement is showcased through lush chord progressions and harmonic layering, which blend seamlessly with Deep Dish’s iconic, club-defining sound. The interplay between atmospheric pads and melodic arpeggios creates a dynamic sonic tapestry that evolves throughout the track, maintaining listener engagement. Emotionally, "Midnight" resonates as a timeless anthem that honors Deep Dish’s legacy while boldly exploring new sonic territories. The track’s structure builds tension and release masterfully, leading to euphoric climaxes that evoke both nostalgia and anticipation. This emotional journey is accentuated by the strategic use of breakdowns and build-ups, enhancing the track’s cinematic quality. In conclusion, "Midnight" heralds an exhilarating new era for Deep Dish. It stands as a testament to their ability to innovate while staying true to their roots. The combination of technical prowess, sophisticated production techniques, and profound emotional resonance makes "Midnight" a 125 BPM banger that is both timeless and forward-thinking. #PureGold Love IT.
