FEATURE: 16 Bit Lolitas - SÜPERMÅRKT out soon on Bits & Pieces/Armada Music

16 Bit Lolitas make their return after a break from the EDM scene with a brand new album released on June 22nd through their own Bits & Pieces label. Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock proudly present 'SÜPERMÅRKT'. This 73 minute journey features 11 original tracks and one 16 Bit Lolitas remix of UNKLE’s ‘Money and Run’ (feat. Nick Cave)

Working together since 2004, and known for emotional, patiently crafted tracks such as ‘Murder Weapon’, ‘The Puppet Show’, ‘Sedna’ and ‘Nobody Seems To Care’, 16 Bit Lolitas now reveal a new work of musical art. And despite their ability to move along with the sound of time, really the best thing about ‘'SÜPERMÅRKT' is the fact that they always stays true to their roots. 16 BL:”Trying to move with the times is like walking a tight-rope during an earthquake sometimes. In the end, whenever we’re in the process of making an album, we always go back to just making some music we like. And this time, unsurprisingly, it is no different. The underground scene has changed a lot, yet some aspects of it will never change. We try to move with the time, but never away fromourselves. So after a long pilgrimage we've arrived at a sound that is new, but still very much 16BL.” With the mission to bring music that stimulates the body, the brain and the soul, ‘'SÜPERMÅRKT' is deeper and darker than 16 Bit Lolitas’ last album, the Warungcompilation. 16 BL: ”We try to stay connected but also unconnected at the same time. The most important thing in the end is that we follow our hearts musically and create music we feel strongly about. This has always been at the core of 16 Bit Lolitas. Not so much to fit into a style or genre but just to make underground music that moves us. With this album we're moving forward and also backward at the same time.'SÜPERMÅRKT' contains a bit of everything and hopefully something for everybody. We used both vintage gear and modern soft- and hardware to create this album. Blending different textures creates an organic space that we like to swim around in. It also brings a warmer, more ‘earthy’ vibe to the music. We also feature Lucy Iris in 3 tracks on the album. She brings haunting yet very seductive vocals to this album. There is a lot of power in these vocals, yet in a very subdued and subtle way, saying more by saying less. Also we will be premiering a remix we did for UNKLE feat. Nick Cave. Something we are very proud of.’

16 Bit Lolitas melt the depths of progressive with the elusive strings of emotional deep-house melodies, rocktronica and styles far beyond. Fusing sounds and making different dance genres meet, it gives a great taste of the 16 Bit Lolitas strategy. Both fit to rock the dance floor, as well as home-listening, ‘Supermarkt’ adopts to the listeners’ state of mind. And that is exactly what 16 Bit Lolitas is all about.

Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock had been making music on their own for some time before joining forces and becoming 16 Bit Lolitas in 2003. This collaboration quickly produced a wave of releases. Tracks such as The Puppet Show, Destiny, My Lexicon, Stereo Control and the epic Sednaa quickly followed on labels as diverse as Yoshitoshi, Alternative Route , Release, Sadie, Plastic Fantastic, Nu Republic, Armada, Minimal, DK and LMR. They then decided to keep control of most of their material starting their own successful imprint “Bits & Pieces” shooting off club hit after hit. A hectic few years has propelled the boys into the spotlight where their crisp creations have carved out a sound that is both cool and sophisticated. It embraces all that is good about House music.

Peter and Ariaan consistently turn in tight productions that stand out in a crowded market place. Each piece of electronic music is patiently crafted and produced with emotion and care. It’s music that creates atmospheres as well as delivering a killer blow without the need of resorting to overused and obvious gimmicks.

In February 2006, 16 Bit Lolitas released their first album under Lost Orchestra called Bodywarmer. Disc 1 featured 16 Bit Lolitas originals and remixes displaying their ability to take over any dance floor in the world at that time, whilst on the second disc they are able to show their musical talent into true Electronica.

At the end of 2008 the 16 Bit Lolitas released their first ultimate collection of music when they launched the “Live At Warung” mix album series, from Brazil’s ultimate Beach Club on Hope Recordings/Bits and Pieces. It featured upfront underground sounds, handpicked from across the globe to add a shimmer but also featured a large proportion (in fact one whole disc) of their own unreleased material. 16 Bit lolitas have grown costumed to producing a lot of tracks customized especially for their performances. ‘‘We like to play a lot of music that the people who come and see us don’t know. It keeps it exciting not only for the fans but also for us’’.

In 2010, 16 Bit Lolitas took on a number of pop projects and took a little break from the EDM scene. The result was the beautiful album of ‘Silver Lining’ by Lucy Iris that was released in February of 2011. ‘To constantly redevelop ourselves and keep learning this was the best step for us. We learned so much from working from a Pop/Rock angle that will absolutely be beneficial for our productions as 16 Bit Lolitas. Hopefully our fans will also notice that’.

Their Bits & Pieces imprint celebrated its 20th release in February of 2012. The label is a home to all 16 Bit Lolitas productions and features a few talented new producers. On June 22nd 2012, 16 Bit Lolitas will make their return into the EDM scene by releasing their third album 'SÜPERMÅRKT'.
