2011 has been quite a year for Nijmegen’s Nick van Mansum. Under his Aerofoil pseudonym, his Caress 2 Impress E.P. released back in May has spanned plays on radio for almost 12 months - with the title track featuring on Prague ’11 and an almost permanent fixture in Markus Schulz’s livesets throughout that duration. Follow that up with another compilation appearance through Vortex, and it’s easy to understand why he has quickly become a fan favorite within the Coldharbour ranks.
During his guestmix appearance for Global DJ Broadcast in May, Aerofoil placed 2am as his set opener. Throbbing from the very first second, listeners to the show were high in praise, and with the baton passed on to Markus himself, the track went on to become one of the big favorites during the Ibiza Summer Sessions Season. A journey that clocks in at exactly ten minutes, but one that is certainly worthwhile.
Complimenting 2am is Hortsik, which will appeal to those who enjoyed Aerofoil’s previous track Kerosene, but with an added powerful melody thrown in on top for good measure. The result is a real party vibe that is sure to appeal to many of those who like their leads powerful and with energy.
Last but not least, Aerofoil teams up with E&G to deliver The Plank Effect. A name inspired by the planking craze of this past summer, the track is an absolutely ruthless monster with a bassline that will go through any shortcut it finds. The track has already rocked huge audiences in September, including Markus’ performances at LovEvolution in Oakland and his residency night at Marquee in Las Vegas.
Dimitri Kechagias review: Coldharbour Red continues to bring the underground flavors straight from the basements of the most creative producers and their studios and expose them to the whole world. Aerofoil is characterised by many as one of the most inspiring progressive trance producers who always manage to compose club sounds that will do real damage on any dancefloor. This 3 tracks EP is one that deserves to be carefully examined under your microscope in your club laboratory. 2AM is the epitomy of high quality big room composition with driving spanking and banging melodic progressive trancer with rough edges, natural sounds that even sound like dogs barking that lead us on the first breakdown that the massive melodic riff is unleashed to make you scream for sure. The track continues like a nice journey towards the unknown with another shorter breakdown and then continues all the way for its outro. Hortsik is another great proof of Aerofoils ability to compose unique tracks. Its playful electro prog trance with great melodic theme in the breakdown that then continues in a true epic way in the main section that keeps the game played really nicely. Last but not least Plank Effect is going totally crazy in a more tech direction with intensity with huge wild techy riffs that sound like a threatening tornado comes towards the dancefloor to take each and every clubber on board. Not one but 3 dancefloor destroyers passed through the strict and careful consideration of Markus Schulz who keeps his labels fresh and inspiring as his exceptional dj performances.
