REVIEW: Rene Martens EP - Point of No Return/Frantic out on Songbird/Black Hole

1. Point Of No Return
2. Frantic

Rene Martens announces his debut EP on the Songbird imprint, featuring the titles “Point Of No Return” and “Frantic”.

Rene Martens is a well known name for many of us and of course a lot of us know Rene from his collaborations with Bart Claessen. In this EP, we get to enjoy the production skills of Rene himself. The first track of the EP, “Point Of No Return” shows us that Rene Martens knows very well how to tell a story through his music. Rene takes his proper time to build the song up and work his way towards the break. The superb arrangement that he has in store for us comes to full bloom in the break. An incredibly touching theme sets in and we’re submerged in big synths and far away sounding strings. Then, almost out of the blue, there is that wailing melody line that will give everyone on the dancefloor goose bumps. Hands in the air, the crowd is cheering, the light jockey flashes every laser he has and the DJ takes control. A killer single for trance DJs all over the world.

For the second track, “Frantic”, Rene focuses on his tech trance skills and delivers a huge banger for the big rooms and trance arenas. Hard drum programming sets the standard for the rest of the track and in the deceivingly smooth break Rene slowly works his way to the climax of “Frantic” and hammers everyone with huge synth stabs. The driving sub bass does the rest. Tailor made for the big in- and outdoors, Rene Martens’ kick ass tracks are now ready to take over every DJ’s tracklist!

Dimitri Kechagias review: Rene Martens is definitely an artist that we should watch out for and capable of providing an outstanding soundtrack for our most unforgetable club nights. His brand new EP on Songbird is one of those that keep the trance genre really alive but refreshed with all the current modern sounds. Point of No Return is a wonderful driving progressive trancer that builds slowly and gradually untill to reach the  breakdown that a very  memorable and distorted melancholic lead appears. Afterwards its time for the big synths to take over the control of our body fluids and push them to their limits when the track comes in full shape in the main part that the various melodic elements intreplay together. Epic and really special track for sure. On the second track of that worth having EP is Frantic. Once again we can hear Marten's incredible skills to compose tight beats that on this particular track go a bit out of his head as he uses a tech trance style main ground part that upon it builds the euphoric travelling melodic leads and the synthy stabs that will transform this track into a peak time bulldozer. Top EP with tracks for different moments of a set. Another Songbird classic in the making.
