In this exclusive interview, we delve into the musical journey, personal philosophy, and creative process of Paipy, born Giuseppe Cerutti—an acclaimed international DJ and Italian trance music producer. Renowned for his euphoric and high-energy sound, Paipy has captivated audiences worldwide with his signature uplifting trance style. From his musical roots and studio habits to his thoughts on the evolving music industry and future plans, this conversation offers a comprehensive look into the life of a dedicated artist shaping the global trance scene.

Dimitris: How did your journey into the electronic dance music (EDM) scene begin, and what were the key influences that shaped your style?

Paipy: Ah, this is funny... I actually started out as a keyboardist in a rock band back in the 90s, the kind that played in popular pub circuits. Over time, life happened—weddings, jobs, and other commitments—and we disbanded, leaving my keyboards to gather dust in the attic. Almost twenty years later, my young son discovered the instruments and asked me to show them to him. That moment reignited my passion for music. I wanted to pursue music without the constant travel and rehearsal schedules, so I turned to producing electronic music—the genre I’ve always loved. I studied modern composition techniques, production software, and VSTs, and from there, my journey unfolded naturally.

Dimitris: What personal values or life philosophies do you carry that also reflect in your music?

Paipy: I love what trance conveys—a sense of peace, celebration, and positivity, which are rare in today’s world. I try to channel that uplifting energy into every track I produce.

Dimitris: How has your understanding of the electronic music culture changed from when you started to where you are now?

Paipy: Quite a lot. I’ve come to realize that there is never a final destination in this craft. Every track you compose, every piece of feedback or support you receive from other producers, helps you grow. It’s an endless journey of evolution and learning.

Dimitris: Which piece of music equipment or software can you not live without, and why?

Paipy: Ableton Live is at the heart of my production process. It’s comprehensive and intuitive, often providing everything I need without relying heavily on additional VSTs. That said, I love using Spire and Sylenth, which remain my go-to synths for their rich sound design possibilities.

Dimitris: Can you share an unforgettable incident from your career—whether funny, unexpected, or challenging?

Paipy: Winning the ASOT #1031 “Future Favorite” with my track “RUN” [Go Music] is a highlight I’ll never forget. Having Armin van Buuren support my track and feature it on A State of Trance was a dream come true. Since it’s a fan-voted segment, it felt meaningful to know listeners genuinely connected with my music.

Dimitris: Let’s talk about your track “Andromeda,” which is central to this interview. What inspired it?

Paipy: I consider myself a purist of uplifting trance. While the scene continues to explore new directions, I remain faithful to the euphoric style my fans love. My track “Andromeda” is a bit different—it’s a trance journey designed to transport listeners into a magical world. Sometimes, after a series of high-energy productions, I feel the need to create something more serene, which is good for both the heart and the soul.

Dimitris: Have you produced any new tracks since then?

Paipy: Yes, I’m very active in the studio—at least I don’t bother my wife while I’m there, LOL. Tracks like “Andromeda” and “Bliss” for FSOE Fables reflect my tranquil moods. But at other times, I go for pure energy—the euphoric melodies that define my signature style.

Dimitris: What are some of the challenges you face when producing music, and how do you overcome them?

Paipy: The hardest part is consistently creating melodies that are fresh, inspiring, and memorable. There are days where nothing “wow” comes out of my keyboard, and it can be frustrating. Over the years, I’ve learned to step back, take breaks, and let inspiration flow naturally instead of forcing it.

Dimitris: How do you stay motivated and creatively inspired?

Paipy: I simply love producing music. Seeing listeners appreciate my work is motivating, and yes, maybe it feeds the ego a bit—but it gives me the strength to keep going.

Dimitris: Looking ahead, what are your aspirations and upcoming projects?

Paipy: My main focus right now is growing ReUplift Music, my uplifting trance label. I want it to be an added value for artists—more than just a platform. Currently, I release exclusively on my label while I refine techniques and build a strong promo network. In terms of music, I have a collaboration with Ryan K coming soon on Nocturnal Knights, and a vocal track with Amsterdam Trance. I’m also working on an exciting all-Italian collaboration with Winterborn and Daniela Presta, this time for Future Sequence.

Dimitris: Do you dream of any specific collaborations or releases?

Paipy: Of course, every trance producer dreams of releasing on iconic labels, but I won’t compromise my style just for a contract. I feel fortunate to have already worked with some of the best in the industry.

Dimitris: How do you incorporate new trends or technologies in your music while maintaining your unique sound?

Paipy: I gradually embrace new technologies to enhance creativity and production quality, but I don’t chase trends. I produce what makes me happy, not necessarily what’s mainstream.

Dimitris: What role do you think AI technology plays in the future of electronic music?

Paipy: Honestly, it worries me. AI has the potential to replace human creativity if misused. I’ve heard AI-generated tracks, and while they currently lack soul, the technology will improve. I personally refuse to use AI in my productions because music, to me, is about human emotion.

Dimitris: How do you feel about the shift toward streaming platforms?

Paipy: Streaming has both pros and cons. It makes music widely accessible, but the financial return for producers is often minimal. On the other hand, the internet enabled artists like me to enter the industry, so I’m grateful for that.

Dimitris: How do you maintain a balance between personal life and music?

Paipy: It’s not easy. The producer’s life looks glamorous from the outside, but it requires sacrifice. I often wake up early to work on tracks before my family starts the day. Thankfully, my family supports me and understands my passion.

Dimitris: What inspired you to start DJing?

Paipy: I began purely as a music producer. As my name grew, I received invitations to perform, so I learned to DJ out of necessity. I still consider myself a producer first.

Dimitris: Please tell us your final statement to our readers who will read this interview.

Paipy: I want to sincerely thank everyone who supports me—fans, labels, and fellow artists. Every comment, every stream, and every vote has given me the strength to continue this journey. I couldn’t do it without you.

Throughout this interview, Paipy shared his evolution from a rock keyboardist to a world-recognized trance producer, his value-driven approach to creating uplifting music, and his insights into the challenges of the modern music industry. He remains dedicated to authenticity, community support, and continued artistic growth, ensuring that his journey is both inspiring and deeply human.

Thanks so much to Paipy for his fantastic answers and Stuart at FSOE offices for arranging this interview.
