Trance Review: B Jones - Glow Up out on Black Hole Recordings

Spanish dance music force B Jones continues her sonic evolution with "Glow Up", a new single out now via the Dutch powerhouse label Black Hole Recordings. Marking another step in her ongoing search for a more personal sound, the track pushes her palette further into trance-leaning territory - faster tempo, wider-open melodies, and a stronger, more driving pulse built for peak-time lift-offs, echoing the high-intensity energy she’s become known for on Tomorrowland’s Mainstage in recent years. Lyrically, "Glow Up" captures the idea of finding inner power when life turns heavy, and it arrives at a moment when that message has taken on real meaning for B Jones herself. Written back in 2025, the song was born out of the intense back pain she was already dealing with at the time - pain she pushed through even while continuing to perform and tour. After recently sharing that she was hospitalized with severe back pain and later diagnosed with lymphoma following a spinal cord tumour biopsy, the song has naturally become a source of focus and forward motion - not as a headline, but as a reminder of strength in motion. With its uplifting energy and emotional clarity, "Glow Up" feels like both a stylistic milestone and a statement of intent: even in the hardest seasons, you can still rise, transform, and keep moving forward
"Glow Up" is more than a song to me. It represents an inner strength that emerges in difficult moments and, at the same time, the process of rebirth through them. Like everybody now knows, the last period has been very hard for me. I was in a lot of pain. But even in these dark moments, making music always gave me strength, and writing lyrics means speaking directly from my soul, sharing my true emotions openly with the world. This track was written from the understanding that facing challenges with courage can become a source of light. What may feel like the end is often the beginning of something deeper and more meaningful. I hope this song helps others reconnect with their own strength, to remember that no matter which difficulties or challenges you are facing, there is a powerful energy within you that can make you realize and overcome the impossible. We all have the ability to rise, to transform, and to bring out the best in ourselves - because the best version of us is simply who we truly are." - B Jones

[content title="Summary" label="Overall Score"]B Jones’s latest release, “Glow Up,” under Black Hole Recordings, exemplifies a masterful evolution in her production style. Pushing into the trance-leaning realm, the track runs at a driving 150 BPM, offering an energetic yet emotionally charged journey. From a technical perspective, the production demonstrates impeccable rhythm, groove, and drive, with layered percussion and sidechained kick-bass interplay that maintains momentum throughout. The melodic hooks and harmonic layers are particularly sophisticated, with wide, reverb-laden leads that establish a euphoric atmosphere without overwhelming the mix. Transitions and build-ups are executed with precise automation of filters and risers, creating seamless drops that maximize crowd impact. From a sound design standpoint, “Glow Up” employs a rich palette of spatial effects, including stereo imaging and subtle delay throws, adding depth and immersion. The track’s dynamic range and loudness balance are carefully mastered, ensuring club readiness while retaining sonic clarity for streaming environments. Its arrangement adheres to a story-driven structure, rising towards emotionally resonant peaks and resolving with a sense of cathartic release. This cohesion reflects B Jones’s growing artistic identity, blending festival energy with personal storytelling. Beyond its production excellence, “Glow Up” has profound mental health and wellness implications. Research in music therapy suggests that high-tempo, euphoric electronic music can stimulate dopamine release and enhance mood regulation (Salimpoor et al., 2011). In fitness and wellness settings, tracks in the 140–150 BPM range are optimal for high-intensity interval training, promoting increased cardiovascular engagement and endorphin production (Karageorghis & Priest, 2012). Moreover, music with uplifting emotional content has been linked to reduced cortisol levels and increased psychological resilience, particularly in recovery or rehabilitation scenarios (Thoma et al., 2013). “Glow Up” thus resonates not only on dance floors but also in yoga flows, spin sessions, and therapeutic soundscapes, offering both physical and emotional benefits. Its lyrical theme of empowerment—rising through personal adversity—enhances the track’s emotional resonance, aligning with studies that underscore the positive effects of music-induced autobiographical reflection on well-being. As B Jones navigates her own journey through health challenges, “Glow Up” becomes a sonic embodiment of strength in motion, making it an exceptional tool for both personal motivation and group wellness experiences. #PureGold #Loveit.
