ALBUM: Leaving Laurel - Our Lives Entwined out now on Anjunadeep

Gordon Huntley continues the legacy of the Leaving Laurel project as a solo artist with brilliant new album ‘our lives entwined’ out now on Anjunadeep. Inspired by finding a new love, and an uplifting phase in his life, Gordon’s new album drifts away from the previous lo-fi experimentation of past Leaving Laurel works, and into a new sonic palette that is warmer and more hopeful than ever before.

chapter three of leaving laurel begins
with a falling in love album
from the cold winter of the second album
comes the bloom of spring
i met someone
and it changed everything in my life
it has everything to do with
the sound of the new album
it feels lighter, brighter, more hopeful
it feels like a different kind of Leaving Laurel record
and what a journey it took to get here

the goal for this album was to let everything in
not force any idea
not looking back or forward
just making music in the present
like hiking up a steep hill, but only looking at the closest,
safest place to land next
instead of worrying over
how far away the destination is
or where you’re even headed
with Leaving Laurel, being on my own now
means putting myself out there
which is an incredibly difficult thing for me to do
being a part of a duo always felt like i could be more anonymous
but this time it’s just me
it’s more vulnerable
because you’re letting the world know
how you feel
the best way you know how to express it

looking back on the record
i feel like this really captured a chapter in my life
that i will love looking back on
and i hope that it can become the soundtrack
to so many memories for anyone that wants to let this music in

Since their self-titled debut in 2021, Leaving Laurel has evolved through both triumph and tragedy. Following Pierce’s passing, the duo’s second album, 'when the quiet comes' (2023), saw Pierce’s brother Griff Fulton joining the project. Subsequent releases include the 'disarm ep' on Anjunadeep and a reinterpretation of fan favourite single 'sometimes it’s scary but it’s still just you and me' on Anjunachill, with the early September single 'together (we are more)' serving as a prelude to the new album. Leaving Laurel has earned support from SiriusXM Chill, BBC Radio 1, and DJs including Joris Voorn, Lane 8, Nora En Pure, Black Coffee, John Digweed, Shallou, Paraleven, and Sébastien Léger.

'our lives entwined' represents Gordon Huntley’s first solo album under the Leaving Laurel name. The album is a deeply personal journey, born from a period of introspection and creative rediscovery. Beginning as an open exploration of sound, the recording process allowed Gordon to follow instinct and emotion, resulting in a collection that is both freeing and revealing.

Described as a wordless love story told through sound, the album traces the emotional arc of falling in love - from the initial spark and curiosity, through vulnerability, to the quiet realisation of an opened heart. Uplifting and hopeful, 'our lives entwined' reflects Gordon’s personal growth and his experience of finding “the one.”

Sonically, the album expands Leaving Laurel's signature sound while embracing new textures. Gordon moved away from the lo-fi experimentation of earlier works, leaning instead into a more expressive palette driven by synths and fresh instrumentation, while still preserving the nostalgic warmth that defines Leaving Laurel. The result is a collection that feels both renewed and rooted - a reflection of growth, optimism, and the timeless beauty of connection.
